I am so excited to get my Australian shepherd puppy in 4 days and it feels like for EVER
We got our Mini Aussie last October at 8 weeks....Covid ruined the socialization plans. So now at 8 months she doesn't know what another dog is or how to react. We have a bike path in front of our house and go for lots of walks and meet a lot of dogs on the path and that walk by in front of the house. We had Invisible Fence put in and it's a rough go because she wants to bark at everyone and everything that walk by. We're working on it but lost a lot of time.

Can you all do a video about training a rehomed Australian shepherd that’s an adult? I have just gotten a rehomed Aussie that is 1 year old. I know this might be even more challenging than training a puppy because she’s set on her ways. She’s a good girl, but hasn’t been socialized, isn’t housebroken (uses pee pads), and thinks hands are chew toys. Could definitely use some tips.

I would think one would start socializing from the beginning, at least with people, and with other dogs after they’ve been fully vaccinated. Be sure to take your puppy to puppy school at least two courses.

I WANTED A AUSSIE FOR MY WHOLE LIFE BUT MY PARENTS NEVER GOT ME AND MY SIBLINGS ONE
My baby only likes four dogs. The ones she met when she was a puppy. Any others she wants to destroy. She’s a little over a year now. Not sure if it’s due to a loose pit bull that attacked her when she was still little or just a guarding thing. She loves people. Hopefully if someone comes to break in they have a dog with them. Otherwise she’s just gonna wiggle her butt and pee on the floor with excitement of meeting “a new friend”.
What if you are past 12 weeks?
never too late to start socializing. i work with dogs, and many are 6+ who have never been socialized before. it’s a long journey the older they are, but talk to professionals and they will definitely help you. it is never too late!
