I imagine the reason that they flipped the A and B buttons only on the save screens was so that you (or your little brother) wouldn't just load up the game, mash buttons and accidentally override all your progress.
That actually still happened to me year ago even though they did change it.
Although I could see that backfiring if someone actually did open the "Are you sure" thing accidentally and hits B to cancel, only to learn the hard way that B is accept.
I accidentally overwrote my Sphinx & the Cursed Mummy save file that way LOOOOOOOL. I sent a really angry email to Eurocom when that happened even though it was like 7 years after the game came out.
"WRONG WHIPLASH!!" Gets me everytime.
Jordan Pritchard I don’t even know what that’s a reference to, but it’s comedy gold.
@@justanotheryoutubechannel it's referencing a movie about jazz drumming. The movie is called Whiplash
@@ClubHouseComicsinc I thought it was a reference to that old pc car racing game called whiplash.
@@ZER0O9 No. Nitro rad was referencing the movie. He had drums and they literally shot the joke with the same framing and cinematography as a famous scene in the Whiplash movie
if you wanna watch it without backtracking 10 seconds, here: 0:40
Holy shit the Whiplash movie gag killed me
Zed C RIP miss ya big man
@@TheLakabanzaichrg Benny Harvey RIP
Do you ever plan to do a top 10 list for B tier platformers now that youve been reviewing most of them?
Absolutely! I want to save that idea for a while though, because there's still a looooooooot I haven't played yet.
Honestly I could probably do a Top 20, or even a Top 30.
(also btw I uh really like your videos hhehehehehheh)
Oh sweet! I think you may be the only youtuber qualified to rank them so i really look forward to the list so that i can figure out where to start playing outside of Mario and Banjo.
Also thanks dude! i've been watching your stuff way before Boundary Break so that's actually kind of cool to know you watch!
I-is this the most wholesome thread on RUclips?
@@maturememory yes
@@NitroRad Just rank all of them
So, a 3D mascot platformer with the level design of a metroidvania?
I need this.
@@suntannedduck2388 I've never played The Lost Expedition. Is it a metroidvania? I thought it was a completely linear platformer.
WRONG WHIPLASH
Best part of the vid
I read it as when it came out
Not my tempo.
Wait but what whiplash is James thinking of??? I'm actually curious
@@dardopp224 It's a film with the main character doing drums
0:39 One of the best moments to ever come out of this channel, it killed me
You know that one game you have buried deep in your memory that everyone thinks you made up when you try to recall enough to remember it?
*THIS IS MY LONG-AWAITED EVIDENCE.*
Ah, a brother in arms. I remember having faint memories of seeing this game on TV before spotting it here
This is just some weird political trivia, but "Genron" is probably a reference to Enron: a really corrupt energy corporation that was in the news in the early 2000s around the time the game came out. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enron_scandal
Usually I hate it when videos like this do the buddy thing, but these two actually play off of each other really well.
It's weird to see Roman Polanski in a kid's game. Normally Roman Polanski is just in a kid.
ImNotGregGraffin This comment is so wrong
ImNotGregGraffin nice
🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
Context? Anyone?
*OoF*
I love this game. It's one of my favorites. I was surprised when you said that PETA actually endorsed this game because I heard that they tried to stop it. They didn't like all the animal testing and cruelties in the game.
StakeJade actually it was the RSPCA (basically the UK’s PETA) that had an issue with it. As far as I can figure out, PETA never endorsed or even acknowledge this game.
Holy shit that "WRONG WHIPLASH" bit killed me hahaha
Finally someone giving this game some well deserved spotlight! Remember counting down the days for the release date after getting hooked on that whiplash flashgame demo. The huge mazelike maps sure got you lost and the first playtrough took me quite some time. There where no internet guides for it back then and the in game map confused me even more than it helped. All this made winning the game so mutch sweeter! Always thought this game was forgotten by time given the fact that i have never met someone else that played it. It was a heap of fun and i still, despite the fact that ive played trough it too many times to count i find myself replaying this game at least once a year.
I don't know who that other guy is, but he should be in videos more often for some sort of comedic duo vibe. And do Punky Skunk.
Look up their second channel, GARANIKOR. They do comedy sketches and short films.
I could've got punky skunk one time, but I passed it up. Then I found out it was rare and pretty cool.
DiscoClam You just made my day.
He should be in videos involving coop games
His name is brady and he's friends with james
8:24 - 8:34 is a song.
WOW HAHAHA I never realized how all of that rhymed together
I Remember seeing the box art for this game when I was younger and being freaked out and for years I wondered what the name of this game was.
WRONG WHIPLASH
best part
Nitro Rad: O_O
"Why is Roman Polanski here?" Is there a 12 year old girl in this game somewhere?
The Chinatown joke would have been funnier if it was more subtle and used the name of one of the in-game location.
Wrong whiplash that had me dieing
People don't talk much about this game.
thanks for doing it c:
The last Crystal Dynamics game before they sold their souls to Lara Croft.
It's sad their only focus is Tomb Raider
+ThePreciseClimber what about Mad Dash Racing
@@ThePreciseClimber I mean a lot of guys sell their souls to boobs, don't they?
I'll show myself out.
Has no one mentioned that Redmond's toned-down voice sounds a lot like CD-i Link?
Nitro Rad, Thank you for doing this review, and really, all videos you do. You've gotten me excited for a Japanese Horror Series (Siren,) gave me a look at some amazing RPG Maker Games (Yume-2kki, Jimmy, ect,) and satisfying my morbid curiosity for B-Grade platformers I skipped out on as a kid.
You have great constructional insight about what makes a game feel fun and why certain game mechanics work.
Hope to see much more from you.
NitroRad: But not until I do Blinx...and Blinx 2...and-
Me: Psychonauts?
Brady: Tekken
Me: Fuck
Eh, Psychonauts is not obscure enough.
(I say that and yet I still haven't managed to get myself a physical Xbox copy... I will have to import one from the UK, I guess...)
And please don't say I should just get it on Steam or whatever. I already own it there but I still want an Xbox copy to add it to my physical collection. :P
You know, I was thinking the exact same thing. One of the most underrated platformers I've played!
"Psychonauts is not obscure enough". So, going into a crazy guards mind trying to find a dead milkman only to find out about this weird conspiracy about the milkman and his milk isn't... obscure enough?
+ThePreciseClimber Eh, it's about as obscure as Rayman and he's done those, though I do get what you're saying. I just think it'd be a good way to round out the Xbox.
Fun fact - Psychonauts was originally meant to be an Xbox exclusive and get a sequel in two years' time. However, all the delays annoyed Microsoft so they broke the contract with Double Fine. Later on DF made a deal with Majesco.
Funny how all the publishers always complain about Double Fine - Microsoft with Psychonauts and Activision with Brutal Legend (yeah, BL was at first an Activision game)
I loved this game as a kid, I love it now. Its probably my favourite obscure platformer from the ps2 era. No one talks about it though which is such a shame!
I love this kind of game, now it's on my "I wish they would remake this one" list.
I'm willing to bet the 'A' to cancel and 'B' to confirm thing probably came from them doing primary development on the PS2. On PS2 it would be 'X' to cancel and 'O' to accept. Very few western games did this, but this was the original intention for the buttons. My guess is they programmed it like that and then just kept the exact same controls when porting to the XBox
I remember playing this game for hours on the weekends.
The look on NitroRad's face when Brady yells at him is fucking golden
so this is where the idea to use cortex head as a hammer in crash twinsanity came from
2:02 Hell, the Nintendo controllers invert the letter placement but they still use A for accept and B for cancel
Noah Da. Ark Wouldn’t it be xbox that inverts the scheme? I guess I’ve never played on an xbox though so if you grew up with that being the standard it would make sense for Nintendo’s scheme seeming inverted.
Valerie Lynn Yeah they are. A and B are swapped as are X and Y
Sony doesn't even have letters...
@@NoahDaArk thing is tecnically none of them are swaped just one is based on japanease w right to left writing and the other is the standard english left to right writing
Nitro, I really enjoy your videos. You have a great sense of humor. Thanks!
You have a really good way of structuring your videos, that have them flow perfectly and bring up all the great nostalgia feels. I gotta show my lil brother ur vids
Man, this bring back some memories. Thanks for talking about it, almost no one does
I played this game so much when I was younger....And Rad thanks for talking about this and I love your content and please keep it up
Dude, I love the jokes in your videos, it brightens my day!
Having the value drop instead of increase with score is hilarious and clever
Nitro: Whiplash? Whiplash!
*proceeds to playing on drums*
Brady: *WRONG WHIPLASH!*
YES I LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID!!!!
7:50 After seeing videos on PETAs games, I wouldn't be surprised.
I know I'm 6 years late, but Redmond says "Wait till P.E.T.A. hears about this!"
I need more of Nitro Rad playing the drums
I know about this ps2 game because of the little flash games around this ps2 one.
also when the hotel dusk soundtrack kicked in I puked a wave of nostalgia. Thanks.
I had so much fun with this. Picked it up in a CVS bargain aisle for like 3 bucks.
James, hands down your best video to date. I can't wait to see you try and top yourself again.
Fantastic video man, you're getting better with every one you release.
I loved the dynamic between you and Bradley during the review! Do more skits man, you're funny :)
Even after a few years that whiplash joke kills me every time.
Lol, every video that you make makes me have nostalgia! I played this game alot.
Love all your 3D platformer reviews. Looking forward to the Blinx series. I saw Tork on your shelf too. Holding out hope for a Legend of Kay or a Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy review. The latter is criminally underrated, IMO!
You look up some obscure ass game and it's either you or an Oneyplays video that pops up
I honestly love all of your videos dude, I haven't even played most of these games
This video was something special. Maybe it was the back and forth between you guys but I think the format worked very well.
I hardly remembered this game as a kid. Thanks for making this video
thank you! remembered playing this as a kid
Still an absolutely hilarious game today! Definitely and often overlooked gem!
Ah the hotel dusk music. I do love your choice of music in these videos
Great review as always Nitro and I gotta say the quality only got better with each and every video.
good luck and have fun dear Nitro
I love to see a remaster of this
Fun fact Spanx the Weasel was on this Racing game called Mad Dash Racing also alongside Gex was on Mad Dash Racing
The other day I saw a video feauting this game and I thought to myself "That's a weird, obscure 3D Pltaformer that only Nitro Rad could review" and I'm glad to see you did just that! XD
I wanted to lay this after so many years but now that i see it again I'm reconsidering
I actually broke this game during one of the swinging sections when I rented this years back. Got out of bounds and started seeing graphical glitches... and the entire layout of the level.
Oh man I loved this so much growing up
Thank you so much Nitrorad I remember seeing Whiplash in gameinformer but I forgot its name and I am glad that it is pretty good.
Just me or does Brady look like old school JonTron?
I enjoy seeing brady in your videos he's a pretty cool dude
I KNEW I DIDN'T MAKE THIS GAME UP.
I remember this game so well because of three things:
1. It was one of the first 3D games I ever played.
2. It was one of the first games I ever beat (though not 100%).
3. It was burnt onto a disc that I played at my uncle's house.
I remember this game being really fun! I actually enjoyed the dialogue from Redmond and I don't think I discovered many of the same problems as you did, then again, I was a little kid but I was also playing the PS2 version, so maybe that one was better.
OMG YOU'RE GONNA DO BLINX!!!
Seriously, it seems like with every videos you make you're reviewing a piece of my childhood. I love that!
Anyways, great video again, it was awesome, I really enjoyed it, and I look forward to whatever it is you have in store for us next! :)
I was just thinking about this game the other day, how there was a trailer for it on Backyard Wrestling. Crazy!
Ever heard of Alter Echo or RTX Red Rock? I feel like they'd fit right in with a lot of these other games a lot of us can barely remember, but remember fondly.
I remember playing this on a demo disc
Nice whiplash movie reference.
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU FOR THAT WHIPLASH REFERNECE!!! One of my favoite movies😭😭
This was a game i borrowed years ago then never saw again for nearly 8 years until I found it at a game store in a mall immediate buy. Underrated game.
Ah wow! Really good video. Your friend perfectly works off of you. You just missed that satisying conclusion! I kept waiting to hear about the final boss and ending.
I am a huge 3D platformer fan and everytime you upload a video I'm always a little giddy before I watch it as I wonder if this is gonna be be a hidden gen-like masterpiece or a not-so-hot forgettable title. Regardless, in this day and age where 3D platforms have really lowered in numbers it's great to come to this channel and discover "new" 3D platformers that are out there. As always, loved the video and I anxiously await what you have in store for us later.
I'm unsure if you ever take suggestions, but the 3D Frogger game, "Frogger: The Great Quest" is one game I'm curious to hear your thoughts on. I'll admit (and warn lol) you it's not exactly a AAA title, but it's a 3D platformer none the less and I'd love to see you make a video on it =)
I remember this was one of those games that I happened upon by accident and wound up renting from Blockbuster over and over because I liked it so much.
It’s strange that they just use an actual pedophile as a villain in the game.
4:13 Or, like Ty's The Tasmanian Tigers Boomerangs.
I'll always comeback to this video just for 0:38
i just found this channel as im typing this and i love you already....
Ok the whiplash reference was just...golden xD
When you're finished whatever you've got planned, I would love to see you return to doing more obscure rpg maker type games. Particullarly the good ones, as I love hearing about those hidden gems like Lisa and Space Funeral.
Oh sweet! Just when I thought you ran out of obscure 3D Platformers to review, you reminded me you have yet to tackle Blinx. Can't wait to see that. My favorite content in your channel are the reviews of 3D PLatformers that nobody else seems to talk about on RUclips.
that whiplash song joke delivery was so good!
6:46 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
but Roman Polanski is a minor villain.
0:39 Thank you for making my day
OMG Whiplash is my childhood next to Sonic, but unlike Sonic I loved this game so much that I bought another one when the first one got scratched up from me playing it so much! Though I had the PS2 version, so I never encountered any of the strange occurrences in the XBOX version so this was a first for me seeing the XBOX version o3o
Also I loved that skit you did with the drums, it was just perfect XD
Nice to see someone cover these 3D platformers that are often overlooked. Psychonauts for Xbox is worth checking out if you haven't already.
Ok you've officially played all of the obscure games that I played as a kid.
I think it's incredible that the thumbnail for the video matches up with their talks of who was what character.
Shout outs for the Hotel Dusk music, good shit mang
I remember seeing an ad in Disney adventure for this once.
Ty is my childhood. How could you just throw it on the ground?
Ty 3 is one of the worst games I've ever played.
Come on, it can't be on the level of Bubsy 3D...
I haven't played Bubsy 3D, so I'm still right.
Ty IS ONLY MY CHILDHOOD AND NOT YOURS!!!!!11111
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
8:25 was that rhyme intentional?
no lol
Thanks for the reply, I wasn't expecting it! Your videos are awesome, keep doing what you do!
That movie reference was brilliant.
....not quite my tempo, but still great :)
you do cool reviews of werid and games that would go unnoticed good job
"it's set in stone"
the chisel - imma end this man's whole career
I remember playing the demo to this game on one of those Jumpack demo discs. I remember it being pretty fun. Tried to see if they made it backwards compatible on PS3 and unfortunately they didn't.
I remember playing a ps2 demo of this game never had a chance to play the full game something about it made me go back to the demo ever now and then back in the day
i used to love this game
