  • This is the story of the first time I took the Amtrak Lakeshore Limited to the East Coast. It's also the first time I rode the Acela. The trip wasn't bad, but it was quite an experience!

The thing that cracks me up... riding the Empire Builder, thy made an announcement that we would be having some rough track coming up and to be careful... on the second leg of the trip on the LSL, I almost got flung out of my bunk at 430am and felt like I was in a popcorn popper for the next 3 hours... not a word... East coast tough!! LOL

Lol Air BNB in da Bronx you got the full City experience! I’ve taken the Acela many times first class multiple times I love those microwaved meals! Plus the beer was nice. It’s really Amwrecks best service! The fact that I got my company I was working at the time to pay for my Acela and Downeast tickets instead of the bus from Providence was awesome!

That’s excellent lol. It didn’t really occur to me until we were riding the subway to parts unknown that all we had was a key and a door code to some random building and I was like, “well, I hope it works!” Lol

@@TheFourFoot I spent four years in the Bronx for college. I learned to hate the MTA while living there. Hour long bus ride to the 6 train them another 90 minutes to grand central then take the shuttle to penn, then another 2 1/2 hours on the lirr 4 hours to go 60 miles lol! That’s why so many of us on Long Island take the ferry to CT to hop on the Acela to Boston! It’s quicker. Great video as always!

Yeah that sounds miserable lol. How about that North Atlantic Rail program???? Lol

@@TheFourFoot never going to happen. I’m still trying to figure out does the lirr or Pan Am know there lines are part of Amtrak’s expansion plan? Is Amtrak taking over the main line on Long Island to Ronkonkoma? We are joking they are going to acquire Budd built M3 commuter cars add a microwave and sink fly the meatballs and slap Amtrak on the side!

I've had similar experiences on Amtrak. In 2000 the Capitol Ltd. left Chicago almost 2 hours late because they were waiting for mail cars from the Texas Eagle. Between Rockville & DC, we were held up for about 1/2 hour to let 2 MARC commuter trains go by. If they had warned us about this before we got to Rockville, I could have gotten to Union Station much sooner on the subway. We finally got to DC 3 1/2 hours late.
I also take the train fairly regularly between Boston & NYC. There was one time when the Acela was delayed for about 20 minutes just east of New Haven because of a "log jam" of trains. Turned out we were waiting for a Providence & Worcester freight train on tracks Amtrak owns. Another time heading to NY on the Acela, the train had some kind of electrical malfunction which would have prevented it from entering NY. They threw everybody off at New Haven, threw everybody off a northbound Acela and swapped trains. Then there was the time I rode a sleeping car from Boston to DC and expected to board at South Sta. 1/2 hour early but had to wait until just before departure because there was a private car an the rear of the train.
I could go on and on about several other Amtrak screw-ups but enough for now. Having ridden REAL high speed trains in Europe & Asia, I can positively say that the Acela is the most feeble attempt at "high speed" train in the history of railroading I've tried to be understanding about all of Amtrak's problems but after 50 years of nothing but excuses, my patience is wearing thin.

I totally understand. Those stories are rough lol. For all the Amtrak haters, they’re definitely not perfect and invite a lot of criticism on themselves.

No, unfortunately I’m not old enough to have seen Rock Island in action. I would really love to have!

“Should have ‘began’ boarding? “ How about ‘begun’ boarding? While you’re working on that, how about you straighten out Nebraska’s political leadership? It continues to do its best to kill Amtrak. I live in DC. We need it.
