    Thank you for your review of the game. You can absolutely play the game without the Events deck and you can if you want treat every candy as worth +1 craving and +1 action. The die roll represents increased risk and the fact that when you do something that gives you an advantage over others, you don't know when that little switch inside your brain is going to get flipped and trying to get through life without it becomes problematic. Too much of the game is built around that to take it out. But taking out the Events deck and treating every sugar rush card as +1 craving, +1 action won't impact the game much and will make it less random (if a bit less thematic) without impacting it all that much. So, feel free!

      Hi Jackie! Congrats on your first published design! I love how passionate and involved you are as I've seen you responding to posts about the game! Love the thematic time you spent on this! You clearly took your time and thought through the experience! I hope to see you at Gencon! Thanks for your thoughts about my commentary!

    One of my favorite from this year!
    The randomness isn’t really punishing and just had to the flavor of the game.
    Very good production to.
    If you like worker placement and 70s /80s music go for it 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

    @thegameboygeeks thanks for the in-depth review! 🙌 I love this theme and style. The main concern is what you said at the end about the linearity of the game. Can you give me examples of other games that are linear worker placement games?

    • @JackieFox1976
      @JackieFox1976 3 месяца назад +2

      Hi! I won't try to speak for Dan at all here, except to say that the game is fairly linear in that there aren't a lot of differing paths to victory (those will start to come later, in expansions or stand-alone games in this universe). Everyone is trying to accomplish more or less the same thing here -- get a record deal, make money, play the largest venues, score sets and public bonuses. You can win without doing everything -- for instance, you can win without ever making it to the stadium, collecting any sets, achieving all your personal goals or even without getting a record deal -- but all rock bands vie for pretty much the same core things. I think Dan did a good job of highlighting things that may not be to everyone's taste.

      @@JackieFox1976 that is for your quick response! I think me and my wife will love this game as she was a popstar in the early 2000s and she can relate to a lot of this. Plus the components look mint! 😍🎉

      Jackie, Thanks for your comments here. Not all designers (especially their first baby) would be as understanding and kind about some critical aspects of a review. You're a great example of what I hope all designers could be (active in the forums and comments, and doesn't take things personal).

    Looks like I want to play this one. But the candy-thing is ridiculous. It's drugs. And so the push-your-luck element is excellent.

    I have been enjoying your reviews. I appreciate your style as the information is easily digestible to help me make an informed decision. I laughed when you spoke about comic hunters and making it baseball cards.. It reminded me of my dad when he ask me why didn't I collect BB cards instead of comics. LOL. I agree with the sugar.. Perhaps they use the "overabundance" of randomness because the industry is hard? Based on your feedback I am still on the fence myself..

    Great Review! Your channel is among the top ones I watch when deciding whether a game is for me or not. In this case it sounds like a game i very much would enjoy, even for things you did not like about it!
    Have you watched WE ARE F***ING TWISTED SISTER? A hilarious documentary about Twisted Sister, one of my favourite bands, and their struggle to succeed. And the against all odds misfortunes that constantly happend to them.
    This game sounds like playing that documentary😅

      @@TheGameBoyGeeks Absolutely - the events are there to enhance the experience of being in a '70s rock band. In the era before cell phones, a lot of planning could go up in smoke. Like drive all night in a couple of tiny rental cars and fall into bed (finally) at 7 AM for a few hours shut eye only to wake up at noon and find out your gig was cancelled because the headliner's drummer was in a car accident and broke his arm. I didn't put that in the game, but it happened to us. So... yeah... a day of planning can blow up. After you learn what the Events are, you know that if you haven't seen an Event yet, it might happen. If dislike that aspect of the game, the game will still work quite well without the Events or sugarless candy.

    I don’t get the dislike of candy personally as its always optional but feel like its very thematic as you stay up later if that makes sense but always a chance for it to be too much. The only thing I did not like is the events which i agree with but easily omitted.

      @@TheGameBoyGeeks except with candy bars and coffee the quality is more regulated than 'candy' which is why the randomness makes sense.
