I remember a nice story about Tiny Tim. The city of Ottawa in Canada has an annual tulip festival. An organiser in the early 1980's thought it would be funny to have Tiny Tim involved in the festival. They bought him an airline ticket and gave him an modest honorarium as they weren't really expecting much from him beyond singing his song at one event as sort of a joke. Rather than just hang out, Tiny Tim went to almost every old-folks home in Ottawa and did free sing-along performances with the appreciative residents. He sang a collection of old folk songs popular in the World War 2 that were largely forgotten but that he was keeping alive. The nursing home residents absolutely loved the songs & him. He was the best & hardest-working ambassador the tulip festival ever had. He really did spread LOVE and kindness.
Tiny Tim was not the creator of Tip Toe Through the Tulips. It was written decades earlier. Later edit: it was written in 1929, so nearly a century ago!😊
Yea, I wish I would’ve seen that while making this video. I used two different articles to reference and neither of them mentioned it. I should’ve spent more time figuring out how he wrote the song. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, all he did was sing it in a “ girly” voice. As a child, we children used to sing that song all the time, I was 11 when Tiny Tim re popularized it. You can find this song being sung on Many 1930-1940’s cartoons. And I believe, if I’m not mistaken, even Betty Boop ‘sang ‘ it also. The musician known as Tiny Tim was an American singer, ukulele player, and musical archivist named Herbert Butros Khaury. Born on April 12, 1932, and passing away on November 30, 1996, he gained fame in the late 1960s with his distinctive falsetto voice and eclectic persona. Tiny Tim is best known for his hit single "Tiptoe Through the Tulips," which became a signature song for him. His performances often featured a mix of vaudeville, music hall, and early 20th-century pop standards, and he was known for his unique appearance, including long curly hair and eccentric clothing. Tiny Tim became a cultural icon and a regular guest on television shows, including "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."
I remember seeing him perform on Laugh-In back in the ‘60s. My father had choice words about him but I loved that he sang his way. I also saw interviews & performances on other shows & he always seemed to be a nice person. I distinctly remember him talking to Johnny Cardon about meeting his first wife “ Miss Vicky”. Rest in peace.
Since Laugh-In has been airing as reruns on tv I've been watching it with my mom, who grew up with it. It's so neat to experience something now as an adult that my mother watched in middle school, and to have her explain the context.

He was a vaudeville throwback. Keep in mind vaudevillians were treated onstage like the performers at the Apollo. Entertain and survive. Fail, get the hook and starve. So whatever you did, enthusiasm was critical. His trilling voice was like the acetate high pitched low fidelity of the Victrolla age. His sweet character and amazing falsetto voice which evoked seersucker and straw hat summer days at the town gazebo reined us in like a Norman Rockwell painting.

Cool story.
Born and raised in Ottawa, and I never knew that. Interesting.

So it was a Very popular song , Way Back… Where is Mr Peebody, and his ‘Wayback machine’ when you need it?

Also mixed with that rapid vibrato he did, that is extremely difficult. All while playing a ukulele?! Crazy as hell.

Objection, hearsay
This song was created in 1920s.
Tiny Tim's version was just a cover but it did gave him his break in the industry.
If you read the story of his final performance, it's really very sad. Most of the audience already left, the band that was performing didn't know Tiny Tim's songs but he performed anyway. He died in that event and when his wife went home, their footprints on the snow was still there. It's really sad
That's tragic. Not because he's famous, just because it is..
Damn. What a way to go out.
Did he die after he performed the song or during? Wow. So sad.
@AuthorJanaeMarie he stopped at the middle of the song during Tiptoe. His wife asked him if he was ok and he said no. That would be his last words. Then he collapsed. Doctors from the crowd tried to revive him but he died soon after
Bro was so Damn Tall but he was called Tiny Tim
The song scares me alot tho the song has a really sad backstory R.I.P.

Such a rare beautiful voice! It's haunting, not scary. May his gentle soul rest well. ❤
