Rushed but it will be interesting to see how they change it.
The plot does feel a little rushed at this point, but I'm gonna watch the whole season before deciding whether or not it was rushed or not.
It honestly feels like it is going too fast, even before watching this video it felt like events were blurring by, and characters were just showing up without getting much to any development.
having just binged all of tensura, these first 2 episodes at least feel pretty rough by comparison. we'll see how it goes from here though

Okay, so I wasn’t the only one that was pretty confused and felt like I missed something. Especially with the old martial arts woman and the noble woman
I read the books but am watching the show with someone who hasn't and when they acted like everyone knew eclair I literally had to ask my buddy "have they even introduced her in the show yet?" just to have him say he had no idea who she was. skipping an arc like that but keeping the character progression is fucking weird
She was in season 1, but was only told that she use to be a powerful adventurer who uses martial arts. Although it never tells us about this special martial art that is not really a skill from the system until she praises Rishia because she has potential in mastering this specific martial art and pities her for her slow advancement in stats, and Naofumi says that maybe this martial arts technique is not compatible with this world's combat systems.
The manga also goes into great detail prior to this arc, if you're unable to get a hold of the LNs.
To be honest, this is not my favorite arc - but the next one (to be covered in season 3 of the anime) is MUCH better and Rishia does eventually get some character development and growth in the "Otherworld" arc.

So I think they’ll go into Rishia’s back story in the confrontation with Kyo. That said I’m bummed they left out the training arc and Eclair’s proper introduction, plus Naofumi confronting Itsuki. The training arc was actually one of my favorite parts of that light novel.
Mine was the sword fight specifically between ren and eclair. And if they don't do a flash back Ren is going to make no sense later for anime onlys
@@flame__7704 not only that but it’ll undermine Ren’s eventual growth. For anime only fans it could be fine, but after reading all 22 (23 still waiting for English translation) seeing them take out an important chunk of character development and moments like the itsuki confrontation is a bit of a letdown. Still confident the season will be good (though different) but red flags are officially showing. Positive vibes only
They likely will, in the third PV for season 2 it showed some scenes of Rishia's past and her and Itsuki's Fateful encounter

With you on the Naofumi v. Itsuki scene. Nothing else, it shows how Naofumi does not need the Wrath Shield to be the scariest guy in the room.
How the fuck are they thinking they can skip this. This ragefull, so human like anger is the things that differentiate shield hero from all other isekai. Thank you AniNews for making the actual anime nicer to watch!
Because they're lazy and seem to be coasting on the success of season 1 without understanding what make it successful (the character interaction and Naofumi getting vindication, not just the fights).

Tbh the whole slave thing gets real controversial. Author should thought of some other way to enhance the MC’s party.
@@KhanMann66 Dead Ass could have just called it a bonding ritual, could have made the ritual illegal and had him find raphtalia a prisoner, freed her, then bonded her to him. I'm not saying my suggestion is perfect but it totally could have been woven into the story with all the same shit just avoiding the whole slave thing

Maybe, but it fits the story kore then some other way, i mean, the guy uses a shield that literally tries to take him over every time as hus trumph card. Using darker things as a source of power, for example slave contracts, does seem like it'll be a theme when it comes to his party getting stronger
@@jesse3391 i have to agree with that. The story can work without the slave crest but it enhances the theming of and darkness of the world. The isekai world of shield hero isn't this happy go lucky place that most isekai protags get thrown into but a harsh, brutal world where you have to genuinely fight to survive. I think the point of the slave crest and that whole method of acquiring Raphtalia in the first few episodes is a good way to show how low naofumi has to go to just survive and grow. It also works well to reinforce the character strength of naofumi, his compassion, despite "buying" raph and having the entire world against him, he still took care of her well. The plot point of Raph making the slave crest her symbol of devotion to nao carries a whole lot more weight then since this is kinda something traumatic that she repurpose as an internal positive motivation.
The whole thing with rishia actually made me respect motoyasu for probably the only time in the entire series.
This one moment changed the fandoms opinion about him. He actually became a pretty good person later on.

That I can agree on… especially with the potential characters you see in the opening theme.
I just don't get why they're stupidly cutting down this season in half after delaying it like 2 years or more, there's no excuse for this laziness
My thoughts on Season 2 (as an LN reader)?
It's a mess, but I expected it to be a mess because of the idiotic move of giving Naofumi a village 2 arcs (or a season) too early...
They should have had the conference where the 3 stooges where burned by Queen Melromarc for being weaker then they should.
They should have had at least a training montage and maybe end the episode where Naofumi is attacked by the familiars.
The current pace is confusing those who are Anime Only... and not in a good way.
unfortunately due to streaming these companies aint getting the gist of how much we love some series. If they had any inkling prior to the end of season 1 I bet you we would have a more filled anime

Also, I want to say that the feeling of becoming more and more angry and suddenly being calm, is something I experienced, it's like stretching something more and more until it breaks. It's strange, but your mind is so clear, you can think so logically, it's almost scary, like a new level of consciousness

I knew when Season 2 was only 13 episodes, & episode 1 was only 24 instead of 42 minutes, there was gonna be a ton content cut from the Anime.
About the meeting, the anime staff could have easily added the berating on how weak the three stooges are, and that they are not in a position to decline on fighting the spirit tortoise.

That's a bit surprising they cut out that many crucial elements to the story, a smarter idea would've been to focus on Rishia's backstory and the training arc for episode 1, could be the result of the change in directors, but hopefully they add those later on, I'm still liking S2 so we'll see where it goes
They've already dared to change the storyline by giving Naofumi the village MUCH sooner than he should've received according to the Light Novel. At this point the smartest move would've been to remove Rishia altogether and at most just replace her with something else. They're changing shit up anyway so it doesn't matter
Would have liked to have seen these scenes animated. Hopefully can at least become an ova later or flashback. But feel some if the cut content is kinda a big deal.
I basically liked season 1 when it first aired, but I felt like there was a lot I didn't understand.
For instance, Naofumi's Curse/Rage Shield or whatever always to me looked like it just made him stupid angry and also hurt him; that was ALL I was able to understand that it actually did, so it was always confusing to me that he would ever bother equipping it again. To me, it always came off as he equips the shield, does nothing, his party has to use the power of friendship to reach him, he comes out of it, says man that sucks... and then sometime later do the whole thing again.
Maybe a year after it aired, I found your videos and they were SO HELPFUL for making things make sense finally.
So what I am beginning to understand given what this video shows the first episode of season 2 skipped, is that the makers of the Shield Hero anime don't really know HOW to tell their story. They kind of just want to cut really quick to the next biggest thing without having to do any of the necessary set up for either the characters to be ready for where they are headed (or properly motivated to go there) OR for the audience to understand what is happening, what information is at play, and why it matters.
Like... it is almost as if they don't understand how what they cut out affects the audience's ability to understand and follow what is happening. Like, they are too close and familiar to the story to understand what it might be like for someone who is only experiencing it for the first time.
I definitely agree in fact I had myself convinced that this was a really great show when I was watching season 1 but looking at hindsight it has a lot of problems, problems that have been pointed out by other RUclipsrs who've also watched the show. This includes the pacing and by extension character development and motivations. I still would love to have an explanation as to why Naofumi got betrayed to begin with but I was left disappointed.
@@GenerationZ313 just watch again and you will understand why he got betrayed... as for why he uses the wrath shield,can't you tell it's his most powerfull attack shield ? If the watchers are blind with a low IQ,that's not their fault

One thing u left out was why the 3 stooges also wanted to skip the country, it was because they weren’t getting the special treatment they were getting from the king anymore and felt it was unfair Naofumi was the one getting praised and they were being put down followed up by the deal they made with the queen of they took care of the turtle they were free to leave.

they completely skip the training Arc that happen after the Cal mira Island Wave ,but maybe the anime will show training /Level Up sequence from Volume 8 Hopefully ,also the Full Skip Contents of Episode 1 are Vol.6 : Prologue -Chapter 10
AniNews is literally the only cut content channel I watch, a real life saver for us who don't read manga.
The training arc while brief, expanded on the world building with the seven vassal, highlights the main flaw of relying on levels, and hints at rishia’s true potential, And give Naofumi a BOSS moment

I don't know, it seems like the only reason they decided to move forward with a season 2 was to advertise the light novel or the manga. There's absolutely no reason to skip Reisha's backstory and no other reason to skip or push back the stuff they ignored other than simple laziness.
I've read the spirit turtle arc in the manga and it's actually kinda boring. The one after it is where things get more interesting. Because of that it's extremely unlikely that they will bother bringing the stuff they skipped up.
Dude I'm really grateful for these videos of cut content. I love this anime, I don't like reading manga/light novels in general, so this helps me to appreciate the story more faithfully

It's back! I love this series! I started reading the LN's myself and am currently on vol 15, thank you for all your hard work on this series!
I was reading the manga before S2 and when episode 1 came out, I was like they skipped an entire mini arc and one of the causes of the spirit turtle being awakened. SH S2 is going to be only 13 episode but the intro is giving us hints of the next big arc. So are they going to rush the spirit turtle arc in like 6 episodes and they jump into the next one? With the training arc and spirit turtle arc they could easily cover 13 episode and S3 is Glass's world arc.
Same here and it seems like season 3 will focus on the next arc (Otherworld arc) which in my opinion is so much better. I may just skip the rest of season 2 and wait until the next arc, later on this year. (October, from what rumors I've heard)
Actually I would say it is worse than that:
The opening theme suggests we may even go into Novel 8 with the characters you see in the opening theme.
@@nhagan001 it could be a stylistic chose like how the first op of reincarnated as a slime had characters that showed up in season 2 and a couple that still haven't gotten a proper introduction.

I really hope so. I don't want the entire Season 2 to be only about the giant turtle. I'm not a big fan of the training arc so I don't really mind that they skipped it to go faster in the next book.

Always appreciate the cut content Sam, It's great to get to know the happenings around Rishia that got left out giving her more depth and proving how low tier Itsuki is, damn what I scene that would've been, I wonder if Naofumi will ever work together with the likes of them, I also hope the anime will do justice and adapt to it's best though it's started off on a low note by skipping 5 training chapters and leaving depth on another character who looks like will play a major role. Can't wait for next week's cut content!

I just wish they would show a little more of Naofumi really showing the other hero’s to their faces just how useless they are or make the other hero’s feel at least a little bad for being useless in the huge fight
Meh. The idea that they're all useless was fine in season one when Naofumi out grew them. Now, its just annoying and makes the writing feel lackluster.
Dont worry, they get a good punishment later.....

The entire backstory of Rishia, the hostile encounter of Naofumi & Itsuki & her joining of Naofumi's party, should've been an entire episode. I'm soo surprised 1 of the most important minor arcs was skipped over in the anime adaption, especially when you consider just how significant Rishia's character growth is. Such a shame imo, because honestly, anime viewers are notoriously under-appreciating Rishia A TON rn!

Yeah, since if they leave it for the boss battle, it makes tiny sense but even then, it is confusing since at this point Rishia is literally the weakest member of the Shield Hero party, even Keel has better stats than her and 'his' role is one of mascot for Naofumi's stands.

HELL YES, lord of heroes is literally the only game i have on my phone bc i find it that fun, i'm happy they got to the point to be able to sponser people. They really do deserve more players with how fun the game is, albeit a bit of a grind sometimes

Shield Hero anime is a bad adaptation even in mid season 1, the anime needs a big retcon which nobody got time or money for

Thanks for the video! I am surprised by how much the anime is apparently cutting. Hopefully this season doesn't end up becoming another Promised Neverland, which is my current worry based on how much content it sounds like they skipped. I really loved season 1 of Shield Hero and want this anime to continue being as thrilling as before.
That being said, I can also see how much I have changed since S1. I had only just started watching anime back then, but now I am a much more experienced weeb. It changes how watching anime affects me, now. Well I'm still excited for this and several other shows this season so let's just wait and watch and see!

It seems that the anime staff wants to keep treating Ren, Itsuki and Motoyasu as nothing more than stooges, case in point the meeting with the Queen at the anime was treated as a joke.
They also downplayed their flaws like crazy. REN is a greedy egotistical lone wolf who thinks he’s better than everyone else. Itsuki has ass shove way up his behind that everyone is wrong and he’s right. Too the point even reason is seen is brainwashing.

I’ve been looking for a new mobile game to play, so against my usual methods; I’m actually going to try out the game that sponsored this video. I really like this channel and their in-depth explanations of my favorite series’ so I’m willing to trust a game they willingly advertised. I’m looking forward to more in-depth looks into Shield Hero Season 2 as well, and I hope Overlord Season 4 will be coming soon for even more content.
I can't remember if it was during the start of this arc (during the reunion to be precise) that the other 3 heroes thought that their defeats were scripted, and if they lost they'd just wake up in a hospital somewhere, as proven during the 2nd and calmira waves, this is what made Naomi completely loose hopes of them and just started praying they would randomly die somewhere, the finishing touch was their attitude towards eclair and hengen muso lady during the training sessions
I really hope they show the 5 chapters skipped because it really shows how lacking the 3 heroes were in terms of technique and strategy

and it was kinda funny to see Ren lose to Eclair in their 1v1 duel even though it only worsen they're egos
And Ren's loss to her is an important plot point in his character growth

That's your opinion. I actually found that the fight with Eclair and the refusal to train downgraded Ren in the novels a bit. Ren was the only one who showed remorse for the Zombie Dragon and they make him an asshole again? It didn't feel that there was a continuity with Ren's development arc. It is like the writer needed to make all the other heroes a bunch of losers even though initially she didn't plan this.
@@sfappetrupavelandrei I completely disagree with that. Showing remorse for his actions was NEVER Ren's character fault, of course he was remorseful when he found out about what he did wrong. Because that wasn't his flaw to begin with. It wasn't character development it was character establishment. His character fault is his arrogant notion he can do everything alone, his pride, and his inability to ask for or accept help. If he had asked for someone to clean up the dragon corpse the zombie dragon wouldn't have even happened. The eclair battle puts this on full display he refuses her training because he doesn't think he needs it then gets beat in the thing he's so confident in. so his pride gets bruised. Leading to spoilers
His inability to protect his party with them dying.
