This was so exciting and detailed. Thank you for cheering my up❤️ My bucket list is to attend the 2023 Kentucky Derby. Greetings from Savannah Georgia 🍑❤️🍑❤️
Well, kind sir, I do declare that this video is the most dapper one I have set my eyes on. Bless your heart for this drink, y'all. :) I'll have two...and one sweet tea, please.
It was actually reading The Great Gatsby that introduced me to this drink. I was not aware of the Kentucky Derby connection… I must of been living under a rock lol.
Wonderful!!! I was always taught to add just a splash of water to the drink, just to kickstart the dilution, meld the flavors together, and add a bit more volume to the drink, but besides that, a stellar mint julep!!! Also, this is the first time I have encountered your channel and, if your other videos are anything like this video, I know I’ll love it😉 You dress nice, you’re engaging, and each drink comes with a history lesson. Exactly my kind of channel…for this particular subject, at least😂
You got my wife and I back on a mint julep kick with this video haha! After watching we went to the bar and grabbed one the very next day. Always wonderful to see vids from you all also, I'm loving the podcasts! Hope to see more of those and vids soon. Great vid Bruce and Crew!
Thanks David for the continued support and patronage. We just recorded a new podcast on Monday with actual guests! Ha, it’ll be a good one so stay tuned. Cheers!
Wow. I'm new to this channel and subscribed instantly and can't stop watching. I love these videos, the history and culture behind all of them combined with the superb editing and your animated personality it's truly a pleasure Bruce, please keep it up, best bartender I have ever seen and certainly the best one on RUclips. I will be trying out many of these drinks myself. Always a fan of the classics I was wondering if maybe you can try out two drinks I though of recently and forgive me if you have covered them already: The great James Bond Vesper Martini, shaken not stirred, and the Singapore Sling. I saw that while watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and always wondered about that one. Thanks Bruce!
Thanks for recently subscribing and writing in! We have a lot of fun making the show and appreciate your kind words. As for your requests, I’m currently researching the Martini so it’ll be an upcoming episode probably this summer. And wouldn’t you know it we just filmed the Singapore Sling episode on Monday! So stay tuned for that one. Thanks again Peter for both your comments, keep checking back because there’s lots more on the way. Cheers!
Bitters would certainly add another dimension to this great refresher. I've seen many Julep recipes that use Angostura bitters. You could practically use any bitters that pair with mint. I think orange bitters would taste fantastic. Lime bitters would work well too. Should I dare suggest it...? It might be over the top but, what about chocolate bitters? Chocolate and mint have always been a winning combination. Cheers!
even with that cray hat on your head your are a cool cat for sure , playing bartender on many occasion for family and friends iam always eager to learn new stuff...many thanks for all the nice videos
Oh my gosh !! What can I say. You are absolutely awesome. I am literally salivating. I am going to try to make one but using a mule cup and jack daniels by now until I get a Julep cup and Woodford Reserve whisky. And definitely I need that silver straw. Thanks for the video.!!!
I love watching these videos of cocktail recipes, the first one i watch was the banana daiquiri, also if anyone knows the name to the song that is playing at 7:00 mintue maker i would greatly appreciate it
The song playing at the 7:00 minute mark is an original by yours truly. The working title was Dee Dee's Song. I never finished the composition. Maybe one day I'll write a melody line for it. Maybe some lyrics too. Cheers!
That thousand dollar julep sure looks interesting, it uses rose petals, mint demerara syrup, and rosewater ice. I'm sort of tempted to try and make it since the ingredients themselves aren't all that expensive, although I've heard rosewater is a bit of an acquired taste. That being said, I thought this drink was going to taste like mouthwash but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
As a seasoned bartender, I thought I had seen it all... I figured your recipe would be like all the others. Until you sprinkled freakin' powdered sugar on top of the drink! I'm gonna have to steal that tip next time it's derby season...
Hey Bruce, being from the Caribbean, I mostly favour rums and vodkas I guess. However I wanted to maybe start trying some bourbons. What is a good "beginner" bourbon to try my taste on? Cheers!
Hi! When it comes to whiskey, there's plenty of good bourbons out there. Jim Beam has become synonymous with Kentucky Straight Bourbon. You might want to give that a try. It's easy going down. It has light floral aromas with citrus, spice and creamed corn. The palate is medium-bodied with flavours of vanilla and caramel followed by a clean finish. Maker's Mark Kentucky Bourbon is another one to try. They use red winter wheat instead of rye which produces a noticeably sweeter, less harsh whisky. The nose is butterscotch and vanilla bean; the palate is smooth with toffee and chocolate flavours followed by a lightly spiced finish. Honestly, there are so many different bourbons out there to try. They all have their own unique flavour profiles. I'm sure you'll find one that suits your palate. Happy exploring. Cheers!
You could use dry mint but the problem with that is it's flaky and brittle. The mint will more than likely make it's way up your straw as you sip creating an unpleasant Julep experience. Fresh is always best. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Bitters always add length and depth to a cocktail. It's an optional ingredient that would work nicely in a Julep. Angostura is always a solid choice. Cheers, David.
Every time Bruce takes a sip of a drink he makes, i dry heave just a little because it sounds like he’s kissing his glass. It’s sooo gross. Nobody wants to listen to that. Most people outgrow that sort of thing as an infant. Other than that, I enjoy these videos. I find them entertaining. Even if I don’t drink and act all boozy all day every day. I probably wouldn’t fit in. But thanks for the videos. Keep them coming.

Thanks Sebastian cheers!
nice hat Bruce💯
Thanks!
No one dislikes and this. Awesome
Thank you for watching. Cheers!
A great variation is to use pecan orgeat in place of the simple syrup. My fave on Derby Day.
Ooh, thanks for the suggestion!
As a seasoned bartender, I thought I had seen it all... I figured your recipe would be like all the others. Until you sprinkled freakin' powdered sugar on top of the drink! I'm gonna have to steal that tip next time it's derby season...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome!
As a kentuckian, not very minty colored clothes, but very much like a jockey. 😁
Hey slick you have a mojito video ?
Hey Bud! Hope you’re keeping well. Mojito is on my to-do list for this summer. Keep checking back. Cheers!

Hahahaha! More BOURBON!!!
There’s always room for more bourbon! Cheers Anne!
One of my favorite drinks but every time I'm left unsatisfied with how fast a sipper it is !!!
Easy fix- make 2 at a time. Ha. Cheers!

Cool
Sure is. Give it a go!
When it comes to Bourbon 🥃 fill it her up! 🤪
Always a good way to go! Ha
could I use dry mint leave instead for the drink?
I like ur silver cup & straw anyway. :d
You could use dry mint but the problem with that is it's flaky and brittle. The mint will more than likely make it's way up your straw as you sip creating an unpleasant Julep experience. Fresh is always best. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Sour mash, but not too sweet, please. - James Bond.
Dash of bitters?
Bitters always add length and depth to a cocktail. It's an optional ingredient that would work nicely in a Julep. Angostura is always a solid choice. Cheers, David.
wait what Americans go and watch horse racing?
Beats me, I’m Canadian.
Why the distracting music?Half drowning out the talk?
Nah dog, it’s a vibe.

Thanks I think? I’ll work on making you dry heave less. 🤨
I like to make mine with Secanol.
