Regulations are clear, A1 non combustible material must be used within set distances of the log burner, with differences at the sides vs above specified per the log burners manual. Outside of these any materials can be used, be it pink fire board or otherwise.
Advice after the fact ... to use the mounting washers, pre-drill your screw hole then use a large masonry bit to create a countersink for the countersunk part of the washer ( I use a 14mm masonry bit for this since I have one). The washer will now lie flat to the face of the board. No warping allowed!
Great job on the fire boarding. I honestly think It would look great with brick slips and would give you that seamless look you are looking for as you can get propper corners for the brick slips these days and slips in so many different colours. It would really transform the chimney breast. Id almost be tempted to do the wall the tv is going on aswell. Make a proper feature out of it all. Looking forward to seeing where you go with it.
The sealant is intumescent if i read correctly i.e. designed to expand on a fire. I hope it doesn't get hot enough with a log burner to cause that. I'm convinced you do all the work. I had the same struggles with Hardi when cutring off small bits with less leverage ..
Hi Vikkie, your doing a great job, not the easiest to cut concrete boards using old saw blades is fine and you can get a better cut with them, might not be much use afterwards, but its done a job. Keep up the good work, see you on the next one, take care

1000000% invest in an SDS drill for drilling into brick/harder surfaces. You'd be amazed how much better/quciker/easier they are at drilling holes than a hammer drill combi!
I had a Stovax inset stove fitted but prepped the chimney breast myself and fitted split face tiles with Marei adhesive straight on the concrete blockwork. Been up or 15yrs with no issues, maybe regs have changed since then cement board apart from giving you a flat surface seems an unnecessary step?

You should have just tiled straight onto the chimney breast ,the tiles would actually adhere stronger to the block walls than the cement board. In saying that you have done a good job, just unnecessary.
If the intent was to tile the chimney breast then there was really only two options, sand:cement render or a cementitious tile backer board, which has been decided upon. The reason for this is that the tiles need to be fixed to a substrate that does not move differentially with the tiles, which plaster/plasterboard will do. The whole issue is exacerbated by the fact that the chimney breast will see greater fluctuations in heat so that the tiles and their backer need to be stable. Fire cement was the right product because it is dimensionally stable unlike mastic. Similarly mechanical fixing was the right spec as relying on adhesive in a relatively widely fluctuating temperature background is risky, the adhesive is best used as a leveller. Why not tile directly onto the chimney breast with a thick bed adhesive?
Do you think plasterboard or pink fire rated board is allowed on the face of a brick chimney breast with log burner???
Fire rated within 200mm of the opening from what I remember when we did ours, though we ended up leaving a 200mm gap and fitting a painted steel fire surround that covered it
