  • How to make a Märklin analog z-scale track digital in the most simple way possible, with a mobile station 3 controller.
    Not yet the switch points just the locomotives.
    With a few shots of what is possible with a digital controlled locomotive.
    Any questions or comments just write them down and I’ll try to answer as soon as I can.

    Can you control more than one locomotive on the same track at the same time with this arrangement? That is the video I want to see.

      Hi there, yes you can control more than one locomotive at the same time.
      This layout is no longer at my disposal as I made a new one.
      But you can drive two trains in opposite directions on the inner and outer tracks.
      I’ll try to make a video on showing that soon.

    Interesting, I'm using the Marklin 0-6-0 for N6.5 and have found that Digitrax does a unit called UP6Z that drops the voltage by either 4V or 6V. Be real nice to see how to convert a 0-6-0 Marklin to DCC.

      @z-spoordigital7228  2 года назад +1

      Hi Zippy,
      I’ve looked into the Digitrax system and it does look pretty decent.
      The drop in voltage is needed when you use a higher voltage as supply, nice that they include that as a standard option to do.
      When you want to see how to convert the 0-6-0 , there are some video on RUclips showing that. Just search for BR89 digital.
      Or this is a site where they explain how : www.stayathome.ch/z-br89.htm

    I noticed the tangled mess of wiring underneath. I'm curious about the hookup for the switches and how they look.

    • @z-spoordigital7228
      @z-spoordigital7228  4 года назад

      Hahaha, yeh...... this was a bit of a mess indeed. The wires where held together with thermoplastic connectors and crewed to the bottom of the plate.
      Now with the new layout I’ve soldered the wires neatly and used shrink wraps around them, and the wires are in nice cable trays underneath.
      I’m still making a new video with the updates I’ve made so far, keep an eye on the channel.

    Thanks for this video. This simplicity is very encouraging. But how do you ensure the voltage is low enough for z scale with this? Also how do you connect the analog feeder to the digital center?

    • @z-spoordigital7228
      @z-spoordigital7228  2 года назад +1

      Hi there Swedish, the voltage in this way is the same as with the analog controller. This does not go up when the plug is moved from one to the other, still 12V.
      Yes you can use the standard connection rail but you would have to remove the capacitor from the leads, this could/will give problems. The analog can also run without this capacitor as well.
      You can only use one at a time and not both at the same time. ( Digital or Analog )
      Before connecting to the digital box you will need to instal the decoder in the train, otherwise you might damage the motor, as there is a constant current on the tracks.
      When you want to use a bigger controller like the CS2/3(+) you'll need to reduce the voltage via a separate device like a DSR.
      I've got one from AMW : amw.huebsch.at/AMW_Script/Shop2.pl?FT=DSR
      Hope that helps.

      @@z-spoordigital7228 Thank you for your reply. It helps alot, and is much appreciated.
      I want to try to go digital but my lack of understanding makes me not dare to put my dcc locos on a digital rail just yet. The lack of information can be frustrating and the information you find can be either confusing or overwhelming.
      But if I understand you correctly it is the fact that you're using the power plug from the analog unit why you don't need a dsr here?
      Thanks again.

    • @z-spoordigital7228
      @z-spoordigital7228  2 года назад +1

      @@swedishz-scale yes indeed, it’s the same power plug from the analog controller. Then no additional reductions would s needed in voltage with a DSR.
      There is so much info indeed, I got many of my info from the Z-freunden international forum. It’s mainly in German but if it gets to difficult there’s always google translate 😉

    ~ What is the advantage(s) of digital over analog?

    • @z-spoordigital7228
      @z-spoordigital7228  2 года назад +1

      Hi Sigman, for everyone that can be different.
      For me its the fact that I can drive trains in opposite directions on the same stretch of tracks, and furthermore the speed controls are smoother/better regulated.
      Another plus is that when you have interior lights in the trains you can turn them on and off even when the train is not moving ( with a decoder ), as such also the head and tail lights can stay on even when the train is stationary at a station.

    That is interesting, even I don´t understand that. The mobile station (1/2/3) is exclusively available for H0, 1-gauge, sometimes also N, never could find anything about Z-gauge. All companies seem to ignore Z. The power supply for the rail must be 18 Volt, I guess and this is fefinately too much for Z. Z needs 9-10 V(max). So, I´m very surprised about Your setup ;-).
    Btw, I have a Fleischmann/Roco Multimaus, which I can use for N and H0. I´m scared to try out remoting a velmo decoder with that Multimaus. Nobody can give me an answer, if possible, or not.

      It's true that the Z-scale community is left out a bit. Thankfully there are lots of enthusiasts that are making their own stuff and making it easier for the rest of us. I also made a video about using the original 18V power-supply to Z-scale with a voltage reducer in between. ruclips.net/video/U2wr8tizh8c/видео.html
      Maybe that can help you out a bit. This device i`m using there is for sale at diverse shops online. You can DM me if you need more info.

    Very interesting!! Is it possible to control dc layout with CS3?

    • @z-spoordigital7228
      @z-spoordigital7228  4 года назад +1

      Thanks, I’m glad you find it interesting. The scale I use is DC powered by origine, als is Minitrix of Trix and they all can be controlled by the CS3. This is because digital trains all run on a form of DC power. And the controller can be used for multiple “languages” as DCC , MM & SelecTRIX.
      There are many websites on running your trains digital, the main this is that your locomotives need to have a decoder to listen to any signal conking from a controller. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Command_Control
      The only thing you need to be aware of is the voltage, in my case I had to reduce it coming from the controller. It’s not possible to use the CS3 for analog driving.

      @@z-spoordigital7228 I would like to connect BEMO DCC layout with CS3. I just think that Märklin CS3 is available for AC layout control. As BEMO is a HOm DC layout, I thought that I need other DCC control like Roco Z21. Your advice is that I can use CS3 for BEMO layout. This is a good news to me.

      Thank you, I’m glad you find it interesting.
      I’m using decoders from VELMO, for the locomotives. I find them easy to use because they are close to “plug and play”.
      For the IC2 drivers cabin wagon I used a Doehler & Haass decoder.
      You can see my other videos on the decoders and programming.
