I'd like to know more about the automated signal control. I'm actually in the process of locating Z scale track to build a set. I've always owned N and HO scale stuff. In university, one of my computer engineering courses involved writing a signal control system for a HO scale setup. They had two HO scale setups with various cross overs etc. We needed to map out the track layout in assembly code, then track multiple trains in motion on the tracks and control their speed to allow them to operate without crashing. As you moved further along in the course, the projects got more difficult. I've always wanted to build my own at home, Z scale might be that fine balance around finding the proper amount of space for this setup at home. At the university, there was a large lab room setup with the two train sets, so space wasn't an issue. None of the sets had lights though, making it more difficult to check if your code was working properly. You'd know it wasn't if you had a crash. The tracks were setup to a m6800 controller and you wrote the assembly that you would load onto the microcontroller.

Thanks for the interest. I decided not to use any computer for my setup. Only Lenz modules. You can seek for the pdf of the Lenz bm3 module to see how to create block sections by cutting the right rail and connect every sections and signals to these modules. here you can read the principles : www.lenz-elektronik.de/src/pdf/b_22620.pdf

@@MZTrainsChannel awesome, I read the PDF and this is exactly what I need. I'll reach out to some local hobby shops to find a local source.

    Fantastic layout.
My dad runs G scale. I went with him to a train show this weekend. Now I'm thinking about running Z scale.
About how much did all the materials for this project cost?

hi thanks ! I bought the case 20€, added approx 50€ tracks, 0,5€ of styrofoam ,1€ of PVA glue and acrylic paint , 2€ of grass, 10€ trees, 20/30€ scenery (bridges entries, walls). the rocks are almost costless made of few hydrozell left. ah, I added approx 10€ of fine ballast

😂 Ah !
