    Before throwing on the color dye after the initial bleaching, soak it in a hydrogen peroxide and water mix to neutralize the bleach so it doesn’t eat away the color dye

  • @user-qk7vl1ks7o

    You could put your tie dye in a mix of water and hydrogen peroxide after the bleach, it neutralizes the bleach! Huge game changer for me. Love how yours all turned out. Thanks for the great tips!!

    Finally, a decent tutorial! I’m constantly scratching my head when I watch others. I just watch them to see what other people are doing. I tie dye almost daily (since I sell them). But I hardly do reverse tie dye. The only thing I would suggest is that after you wash the bleach off, you soak the shirt in soda ash for 20 minutes before you tie it up and add the color. Everything came out so beautiful!!

    • @delongkw2011
      @delongkw2011 4 года назад +1

      Also, came here to suggest washing out the bleach and then soaking in soda ash. Will keep your colors vibrant and from fading

      What kind of dye would you recommend? :)

    • @jenniferclements351
      @jenniferclements351 Год назад

      Was reading through the comments to see if there was anything about soda ash - but even without, these came out pretty vibrant!

    • @cocacolafiesta
      @cocacolafiesta Месяц назад +1

      @@jenniferclements351Soda ash is necessary as it makes the dye bond with the fabric. Rinsing it in cold water first will remove any soda ash to stop it from activating the dye in your lighter colors. Using a hydrogen peroxide solution (1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water) immediately after rinsing the bleach is NECESSARY to stop the bleach from staying active which will make holes in your fabric even after being washed.

    This is not Jacquard dye what you showed is "procion fiber reactive dye" which is the right dye you used....Jacquard dye is made by the same company but for synthetic fabrics...The Procion Fiber Reactive Dye is for natural fabrics like cotton...also after you bleach the black fabric soak it in soda ash and the colors will be brighter and vibrant with this type of dye ...the soda ash makes the cotton fabric more porous...I really like the pastel colors but they will ash out and/or fade if you don't use soda ash for 20 minutes
    FYI A cup of baking soda on a cookie sheet for 45 min at 450 degrees in the oven makes "soda ash" then mix the cup of soda ash with 1 gallon of warm water...stir and dissolve the soda ash ...also you can reuse it so save the soda ash water in a gallon jug for future dye projects.soda ash water could be used to rinse the bleach off or just soak it before you dye it I swear it makes a huge difference and the color will last after washing
    also if you sprinkle the dye powder then set pieces of ice to melt it has a really awesome effect

    Great tutorial! Gonna trie it on a red dress thats been a bit ruined by dry cleaning. Two questions: 1. When you are satified with the colours you dont put the piece in some plastic, so you leave it out to dry in the open air? 2. How long do you leave it before you wash it out? With the paint I use for my regular tie dye I leave it overnight in plastic for 12 -20 hours.

    Hi- quick tutorial question! My boyfriend and I are reverse tie-dying matching sweatpants and sweatshirts and your tutorial is the BEST out there! In the first tutorial, do you recommend opening up the shirt to wash out the bleach, and then re-spiraling it to add color, or just throwing the whole thing in the washer with the rubber bands still in?

      Whoever's wondering, use 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water and soak it. Peroxide neutralizes the bleach

    • @no_peace
      @no_peace 3 года назад +3

      After neutralizing, soak it in soda ash (washing soda) water.
      You shouldn't have to wash it between processes like she's showing. Her way works too but it's way more time and work to have to keep folding and unfolding it, and washing and drying it. For the more streamlined method, you roll it up then you bleach it (people usually dilute it to half and half or 75% bleach), don't bleach it more than 15-20 min, neutralize bleach with peroxide, soak in soda ash water (to make the colors stick) and dye it, all in the original cake, then leave it in the original shape without rinsing the dye for a day or two (which is called "batching"). Her way is better for adjusting the colors and checking the spiral but it's almost impossible to make the spiral exactly the same way again
      If you can't find $4 arm & hammer super washing soda (in laundry area at Walmart), you can bake baking soda on a cookie sheet for an hour at 400°F to make some. It's 1-1.5 cups per gallon of water and you can reuse it as many times as you want on white shirts. Just pull out a (clean undyed) shirt and put in a new one. It's better to have separate water for colorful shirts though so the dye doesn't discolor the soda ash water

      @@no_peace ok my sister and I are wanting to do the reverse tye dyeing an are confused on the processes cuz we've seen a few and don't know which one to do. We are going to be using the dye kits you buy at walmart or michaels do we just rinse the bleach then spray the peroxide on it then dip it in the soda ash? Lol

      @@no_peace will this process give you a bright bleach job? I want it as white as possible before I add color and they always turn out too orange

    I did this with my RAs, using your technique-just a little bit of bleach and letting them sit out before we rinsed them. The shirts tore! It could be that too much bleach was used or it was sitting out too long, but from now on we’ll be diluting the bleach :(

    Can you please teach us how to do a body contouring tie die. Ive seen them sold in stores it basically has a design that is solid on the sides and goes in at the waist to give the illusion of a smaller waist? Im thinking it might be a version of the crinkle method

    I've heard that soda ash is a good additional step that makes the colors last longer.
    Should I do the soda ashe step or is that something you recommend against?

      After bleach, rinse, apply hydrogen peroxide to neutralize the bleach, rinse, soda ash soak for 24 hrs, add dye, let sit for 24 hrs, rinse, wash.
