Teaching your mentor how to fly fish. Brian you had to be in dream land. This is so amazing about Flip. He’s open and so easy going. Also love his little tidbits they come out of nowhere “I Owen It”.
I was born and raised in Columbus. I absolutely couldn’t wait to get out. I moved to Florida as soon as could… to fish. I fished some back home (bass), but always thought that Ohio sucked with regard to fishing. In many ways, it does. In other ways, it’s an untapped gem for fishermen, as this video demonstrates. Needless to say when I come back home for visits, I always bring my fishing gear.
Brian does a program where he states that Columbus, Ohio is the fly fishing capital of the world. Many cool fish to chase here in Ohio. It doesn't suck in regard to fishing. Watch the Bass episode of the Walkers Cay Chronicles where Flip, a Florida native, catches his personal best bass.....in Ohio!
I have always wanted to learn the art of fly fishing. I am a diehard Carp angler, fishing Euro style gear, now with my veteran disabilities, and packing on age, I think my days of big rods, and tweaking baits are over. Fly fishing has now taken center stage in my journey of angling life. I have been watching your channel, subscribed, dinged the bell, and am thoroughly enjoying every video. Thank you for all you do. I remember watching Flip on Walker Cay Chronicles in my younger days, always a great guy to watch and learn from. Your series on Carp, Brian has get me itching to go buy and 8wt, set it up, and hit the water for Carp, Redfish, Specs, and maybe a Snook which I have never caught. Blessings to all and looking forward to catching up and watching your new stuff.
I just ordered my first fly rod combo from you guys because of this video. Thank you for keeping it simple enough for this old inshore fishermen to learn.
Having read Left's Little Library's America Masters Symposium I,II, and III of which Flip was a part, it would be nice if the Fly Fishing industry would repeat that tradition. Much has happened since 1992, it would be great to have a Masters Symposium IV, V, and VI. Surely Flip can gather another group or most of the others. You could read a hundred books and not gather what they shared.
Calling carp a "trash fish" is going to seriously upset a lot of British fishermen. Over here they're considered the elite fish. There's a whole industry based around them. Whole lakes full of them. Companies that base their whole business model on making gear to help catch them. I think partly because they're the biggest fish we get round these parts, partly because they fight like a slightly pissed train and partly because they are often challenging to catch. Especially the big ones. Every time I watch someone in the US shoot a giant mirror carp with a bow, and then just throw it away, it breaks my heart a little. Sure, some areas have an issue with Asian carp taking over whole stretches of river, but in general carp are as far from trash fish as you can get.
@@Madriveroutfitters about 17 seconds. ;) Don't worry, I'm only teasing. I'm definitely going to try and catch a couple of carp with a fly this summer. Usually we just use a bread crust freelined when fishing for them on the surface but there are definite advantages to the fly for this. I know some friends who tie flies to look like dog biscuits, because a lot of people use them as bait for carp.
We've got some good stuff coming to ya this week - Enjoy 90s Brian for now!
Oh how I loved this show. I don't even fish, but all my guys did. Reminds me of better days. All my fishermen are gone now. :(
Thanks for watching and sorry to hear.

I’m surprised y’all weren’t grab’n handfuls of mulberries off the trees and chumming those carp up 👍
Apparently they didn't need to?
I ate a lot of carp in my life. A lot of bones but tasty. There was a seafood place in Omaha that had carp salad on the menu.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for being here.
I remember my first mulberry hatch.
Everyone remembers their first!

@@Madriveroutfitters I am tying them with purple deer hair and red thread and green post material
Hi. I am new to fly tying and I had a quick question. What are some good trout flies to tie with a size 14 hook?
Please contact the shop directly and they will be happy to help/consult.

Good thing we didn’t call them a trash fish. Nothing but respect.

I am waiting for another tying session with KATIE.....No offense to Flip & Brian....that was my question
