If every how to was this straught and to the point, the world would be a much better place. Nice job
Awesome video. I think I used a 32MM on my 2010 XLT Explorer 4x4 and just removed 2 bolts and pulled brake caliper still assembled.
Yup yup you can definitely do it that way, I just took everything apart for a more in depth video
confirmed...another 2010 Explorer XLT 4x4x owner here...axle nut is 32mm for this particular model/yr
Thank you. I had to do mine twice only because I purchased cheap hubs the first time. Still saved money but purchasing quality parts is a must.
Always a hit or miss with those cheap bearings. Put the $58 ones on my aunts truck, no noises yet.
Great description. Thanks
Loved the video, man .Thank you, helped alot
Just did both front bearings and that slide hammer from AutoZone didn't do JACK lol Didn't budge a single millimeter. Five pound sledge to the rescue. Wailing on opposite sides 2-3 times and each bearing popped out with no issues. They had been (professionally) changed 3 yrs ago but I live in the rust belt so there was still a ton of crud in the bore to clean out.
Great video 💯
thank you great video
Thank you. My 07 Mountaineer was getting bad enough I was nervous to drive it. I could feel the wobble in the wheel when turning. I thought these needed to be pressed... Gonna order some decent bearings and change em out
I **think** technically you can press the bearing out of the hub and have a new bearing pressed in, but it's so labor intensive (and time spent waiting on a shop to do the work) that most people just buy the whole assembly: hub/bearing/abs sensor. So when people say bearings they usually mean the whole assembly.
@@calvinpryor yea I found some really decent ones for about $200 a side. I found some really cheap ones but I figured the would probably wear out in a year
@@scottouimet2865 would you mind sharing a link to the ones you purchased? All the bearings at big box auto stores by me start at $250 up to $350 (each) depending on the warranty...I also see some online for $50 but those sound too cheap like they would give out after 2k miles. ....$200 sounds about right in the middle..not too pricey and not too cheap
@@calvinpryor I'll have to look, it was bookmarked on my old phone but that was also almost 6 months ago so could have went up by now
@@scottouimet2865 indeed......A few months ago I started a spreadsheet to track prices and everything has gone up by at least $50. 🤦
Got the bearings from 1A Auto. Hope for the best.
Just bought an 08 Explorer EBauer really cheap.....at first I thought it had a transmission problem.....now I've realized it's gotta Be a Bearing or Diff noise!! The transmission was rebuilt 20k miles ago, and have the paperwork and warranty to confirm.....it shifts perfectly smooth. I think the previous owner may have gotten spooked or something, I can't find a reason why they sold it so cheap, unless someone lied and tried to take advantage, but the truck runs Amazing other than that "whining, roaring" noise sometimes in the front Left.
Either bearing or driveshaft. I replaced the bearing 3 times and it ended up being the driveshaft
Platinum Garage, make that head gasket video...please
02-05 30mm axle socket / 06-10 32mm , i have both i learned the hard way 😂
Helpful but man all the torque spec stuff sucks the confidence right out of me. Im not much of a mechanic but i need it done sooner than anyone i can find to help
Just a note about reinstalling and torquing the caliper mounting bracket / anchor plate on 2003. I have the 4-inch thick Ford Workshop Manual for 2003 and the Haynes Manual for 2002 thru 2010. Both spec these bolts at 155 ft/lbs for 2003. If you go there they will snap. I promise. Got new bolt kit (2 bolts 3L2Z-2027-AA) at dealership and asked about torque. The mechanics use FMOnline and it says 100 ft/lbs. Please mark the correct tongue in your manuals right now for next time.
I don’t think I’ve ever torqued anything down to 150 lol never mind caliper bolts. Thank you for the helpful and informative data!
I always go by Feel......never trust torque specs alone.
I thought the same thing about the 2wd model about having nothing to torque!
So how is it critical??
Right?!? So far so good at 100. No noise whatsoever.
Has anyone replaced these front bearings and got them to last more than 30k miles? The original set on my 2010 Ford Explorer made it to 92k, but ever since the first swap, I've had to replace them every 30k miles or so. Trying to figure out if there's some other broken/worn-out part that's contributing to the early failure of these bearings? I was going to replace both lower control arms (hence new lower ball joints) with the bearings this time. Also what bearing are you folks using?
I’ve had success with Moog bearings. As the video states, torque the nut to 100. No issues. A common misdiagnose for bearing noise is actually the front driveshaft. I replaced all 4 bearings, still had noise. Removed the front driveshaft and it went completely silent.
a mercury mountaineer front noise suspensión l check Ball joint tie roed l don't get where the came from any recomendatios ,thanks
is it clunk or squeak
@@iamdjnam clunk one time ,no matter if go right or letf or straight ,thanks
Can be bushings in the control arm or the CV axle if you have 4x4
@@iamdjnam thanks my friend next time l check the control arm
I just do not understand how my original bearing lasted 98K miles and these replacements only last 3K?????
its already dead. it lasted 20 minutes. I ordered a Moog.
Holy smokes, same issue almost to the exact mileage....got to 92k miles on the original set and since then I haven't been able to get more than 32k on a set. This time I was gonna try replacing the lower control arms along with the bearings. I thought these front bearings were a "replace once for the life of the vehicle" kinda thing.....no?
according to Amazon the linked product does not fit my 2007 Explorer.
They must’ve changed number. This is an old video. Thank you for letting me know, I will update asap.
No axle torque spec, tighten the axle nut with an impact. That manual is wrong on not torqueing that axle nut down.No damage done tightening the axle nut with an impact
Am I just spending way too much on bearings? big box auto has them for $250 to $350 (each) depending on the warranty...but they still only last around 30k miles
Yeah you’re getting robbed
1A Auto
only 3k miles?
Yeah literally I was not happy
Don’t get it from “O”, my ‘07 Mountaineer lost “Os” in less than 6 months!
You mean o o o O'Rieley?
