Since we forgot to repeat it again when the movie starts, for all those that skips intros and therefor all the context given, Simone has seen this when she was a kid, George has not as back in 2001 his family had yet to migrate over to Canada from China.
I always liked the detail that Boo is still scared when Sully shows her the empty closet, because of course it wouldn't prove anything to her since her monster was Randal.

One of the drawings on Boo's wall can be seen on the wall of the dentist's office in Finding Nemo. The implication being that Boo's dad is the dentist.
There’s a theory that boo is Jessie’s kid who was the cowgirl toy reference to Toy Story at the end. That when boo grows up and Jessie later meets woody and so on the Toy Story franchise but the fact Pixar films are all connected somehow is crazy
Finally! She finally opened with a reference I understood! Unfortunately, I don't think I can type the name of it in these comments. It's a song by The Lonely Island, I can say that much.
“Is it easier to make them laugh or scared?” I think it’s more important to think about how hard it is to stop a child from being afraid and how easy it is to stop them from laughing.
I love that duet between Billy Crystal and John Goodman. The song "If I Didn't Have You" is fantastic. Also, if you don't recognize the voice of Mike's girlfriend Celia, that's Jennifer Tilly, best known as Tiffany, the love interest of Chucky.
Awwww, it's one of my absolute favorite movies. I sometimes forget about it but whenever I see it again, I remember how much I love this. Just the IDEA behind the movie is so amazing. The monsters scaring children because they need the power and the whole second universe .... just absolute perfection, theme-wise.
The thing about kids being toxic, there's a fan theory that the door system is actually time-travel and they believe children are toxic because of the Black Plague. Monsters are actually evolved humans, according to the theory, which ties into an even bigger theory called the Pixar theory, where all the Pixar movies are connected in a shared universe.
I have a love/ hate relationship with this movie. It was one of three movies I use to watch on repeat when I was a kid and every time I rewatch it the movie manages to tug on the heart strings
One of my favourites. On occasions when I have been home, I have watched films with my Mum. I brought this with me, and Mum was looking at me strangely wondering what I had picked. By the end, she understood why I had picked it. The voice of Boo was recorded from someone's daughter, who they just followed round the studio with a microphone recording all the noises and things she said, then incorporated it into the film. My favourite has to be Mike Wazowski putting in his one giant contact lens.
This was the first time Disney Pixar assisted the rest of the industry. The second time would be with the snow particle effects in Frozen, which were so advanced that scientists used it to simulate the conditions in Dyatlov Pass, which saw a group of hikers mysteriously perish 60 years earlier. Thanks to the technology, they could recreate the conditions perfectly and now know what happened on that day.
OMG... LOL!!! Tom Hanks was a sitcom star (Bossom Budddies) and Bachelor Party was his first Movie! A crude movie that could not be made today! Funny as Hell though!!! You guys should watch it for the pure shock of seeing Tom Hanks in a movie made essentially for teen boys!
That comment about how Boo would grow up thinking about him was spot on, assuming the Pixar Theory is correct. You guys should check that out, basically, Boo is responsible for the entite Picat Universe 😂
BTW there is a theory that the kid they are talking about shooting lasers from their eyes balls and flying around and teleporting was actually jack jack from the incredibles since his super powers allowed him to jump dimensions.
It's an animated, of course it's a funny movie but what I didn't expect was the cuteness throughout, that stuff still gets me no matter how many times I've seen this awesome movie. Thank you for reviewing it, I had a great time. See you again soon.
The best “What if?” Scenario I’ve ever heard is that (assuming time functions differently between worlds), when Sully opens the door at the end, he sees a now adult Boo telling HER daughter a bedtime story (her “Monsters, Inc” adventure perhaps?) and it’s her daughter that says “Kitty!” right on cue. ❤️
9:32 there’s a fan theory that all Pixar movies are set in the same universe and monsters Inc takes place way in the future when humans have evolved further and the doors are time travel devices. The myth that children are toxic came from when they were scaring children during the black plague.
If you haven't heard of it before, The Pixar Theory is basically that all the Pixar movies happen in one timeline, with Boo ending up time travelling at some point. She was always searching for her lost Kitty, and ended up becoming the witch from Brave, which was why she was so Bear-focused in her magic.
Were the monsters to play George's and Simone's reaction to their movie on repeat, they'd have enough laughter juice to sustainably power their world for eternity. 😂
I remember watching this movie on video and when the monster arm was a coat sleeve i unlocked a childhood memory of waking up and seeing a coat in the back of a chair just outside of my bedroom as a kid and nearly falling out of bed cause i though it was a stranger looking in my room
As for the title sequence, this and Catch me if you can were inspired by Saul Bass. He designed many title sequences, movie posters and corporate logos in the 50s and 60s.
I knocked on one of my neigbour's doors some while back, to let her know she'd left her keys in the lock. While we were chatting her 2 year-old daughter came out to see what was going on, so I waved and said "Hello lil' monster." She looked at me for a moment, took her dummy out of her mouth, raised her arms and said "RAAAAR!"
Fun fact: on Disney+ when you finished a movie and the stream recommended you Monsters Inc, the shrink video of the movie you're were watching covers Mike's face
George, you might be interested in seeing the making of. They planned to have a toddler read lines, and after realising that it is impossible, just followed her around with a microphone. Recording her interacting with the world as a toddler does. Edit: never mind, you literally said it at the end!! 🤦♂😂
About 16 years ago my brother and his wife were pregnant. They wanted their daughter to feel like she was part of the celebration and excitement of getting a new brother so they told her she could pick her new brother's middle name which is how I have a nephew whose middle name is Michael Wazowski... yeah we are a weird family
Apparently the whole intro with the doors was added in after test audiences showed that kids kept getting too scared of the movie, so they came up with something fun to set the tone.

Funny that you associate Steve Buscemi with serious roles. Because the first times i actually recognized him where in Adam Sandler movies like Billy Madison and Mr. Deeds so for me it's the other way around and i really struggle with seeing him in more serious movies.
I hear Mike's voice and that's all I think about is the rom/com with Billy Crystal called When Harry Met Sally. 0:28 Simone: "stupid invisible guy" Y'all should watch the mystery thriller "The Invisible Man"
This as a metaphor for the energy companies the willingness to run the world/themselves to continue the current means of fuel, rather than switching to a new (better) method of energy, just because that is how they started. Don't know if that was the intent, but boy does it work.
Okay, briefly off topic, but I just re-watched your reaction to Monty Pythons Holy Grail & immediately went looking for your reaction to the 1981 film of Excalibur - you have not, in fact, reacted to the 1981 film of Excalibur!!!
The prequel -- Monsters University -- is good, but not great. It does have one bit of a continuity error, but that's fine. The "sequel" -- Monsters At Work -- is a LOT of fun. Season 1 takes place between the old boss getting arrested and when Mike is about to make that kid laugh.

To get all of Boo's "dialogue", they strapped a microphone to the then 2-year-old Mary Gibbs, and followed her around for hours on end, then spliced together her various burbles, giggles and utterances as needed (plus a few prompted phrases). Some of these recordings have been used for other Disney/Pixar infant characters, like in Lion King 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3. And of course, Gibbs still receives royalties for this "acting" today!
I didn't watch any of it before posting, but I hope that glowing self-satisfaction keeps you both warm at night. Besides, they didn't mention the other movies or the royalties part.
@FightingTorque411 hahahaha overly sensitive and defensive huh? Well then let me make you feel better... wow! You got me! Had no idea you hadn't even watched before commenting! Brilliant! And then that parting shot of pointing out that you had added 2 other points on top that they did not address?! Bravo sir! You really put me in my place! I am humbled and properly chastised. I will be sure to check myself in the future before being so bold as to question people who clearly didn't watch the whole video 😉
I've watched that part over and over trying to figure out the pun. What is it? Is it just something as simple as "going to pieces" and I'm overcomplicating it?
Fun trivia note: About a year before Toy Story 1 was released, the 4 guys in charge of Pixar got together for lunch and brainstormed ideas for other films they could make if Toy Story was a success. During that lunch, they came up with the ideas for "Toy Story 2", "A Bug's Life", "Monster's Inc.", "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E". Also, the "Kitty!!" at the very end ALWAYS kills me.
They did not come up with Toy Story 2. Disney asked for a sequel when the first film was successful. They wanted to send it to DVD, but then it was so good it got a cinema release and this caused issues because Pixar only had a 5 film contract, and Disney didn't want to count TS2. The dispute made Disney found Circle 7 to make Pixar sequels, they started on a Toy Story 3 without Pixar. Eventually they bought Pixar.
Can I just tell you, The fact that you didn't say, "Fun fact!" Gives me hope in this world... Even though you still said fun, And that's the most Cringe part, it's still so refreshing to understand somebody's actually conscious of our plate and is trying to lead by example In this awkward evolution of phrasing that is still light years ahead of the trilabite, plebian Verbal diarrhea I am forced Is to ingest on a daily Basis... Fun fact: Is not all heroes wear capes!... ( It's too late for me, save yourselves!)
@DaviniaHill I don't think that really contradicts. What was said in the original post... You're talking about contractual obligations and things like that... That doesn't mean in a brain store.Makes session they didn't think of toy story two as an example, It just wouldn't necessarily be the same story... I just Think you're confusing to different issues that are Not mutually exclusive... I think using the language of the people in charge of pixar is a little misleading And as a business major I understand that. Sometimes sometimes that's what we think about as the leaders but There used to be a time when the artistic visionaries were the leaders in businesses... So you're literally talking about when that type a thing Began its decline And there's probably no argument about that
@theduckfromthejoke152 when the "brain trust" came up with the first 6 films for Pixar TS2 was not one of those, I am saying the OP is wrong on that point.
Fun fact: the Harryhausen's restaurant was originally going to be _bombed_ by the CDA. They had fully completed the animation, but it was changed at the last minute to being quarantined in the shield because of the 9/11 attacks.
That makes more sense why Celia was in a cone collar and looked beat up..i don't think the CDA beat her up or anything..so she was caught and injured in the bombing originally.
PIXAR always puts a cute little movie before the main feature. This movie's short film was BIRD ON A WIRE. It was easily the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen.
The thing that makes me laugh is the shorts are often little render tests of a development needed in the big film. Even PIXAR's tests are entertaining!
Fun little note Roz the receptionist is based on a real woman, The writer Bob peterson worked at the Purdue Exponent while in school, and the receptionest there was the inspiration for Roz. I worked there 20 years after him, and she was a legend.
I work for the Post Office. I've delivered to houses with children out front and were happy to see me. I had this one house where a young lady would meet me at the window. She hadn't learned to talk yet so she waved at me. Eventually she started to make sounds but nothing understandable like most of what Boo said. These are some of my favorite memories. I eventually became "Mail Mail". I delivered to her house until she was a High School Junior.
The restaurant that Mike and his girlfriend went to is named after the famous stop-motion animator/special effects master Ray Harryhausen. Such memorable examples of Harryhausen's monstrous work (pun intended) include films like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) AND Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
Back in 2002 when I graduated from art college where I’d been studying film design, Ray Harryhausen received an honorary doctorate at the same ceremony. Not only was being on the same stage as him incredible, but following the ceremony I had the opportunity to meet Ray & got to tell him how much his work had inspired me.
George's comment about always associating Tom Hanks with dramatic roles kicked me in my Gen X shins. For us, it was a shock to see a guy known for likable, lightweight comedy roles transition to hard-hitting drama. He did do some drama early on (e.g. "Every Time We Say Goodbye") but nothing nothing like "Philadelphia". That film was such a revelation.
If I Recall, the Jessie doll was a tease for Toy Story 2 and the Clown fish for Finding Nemo. In the past, Pixar's films would have a hint for what the next film would be.
It's kind of practical at the same time - I imagine that once you have a 3D object (like the ball from the Luxo Jr animation that started the company) it's easier to just import that, than to create something new for a movie
The freaking simulation scene where Boo is scared of Sully is one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen. That is like insta tears from me and I've seen this movie like 100 times.
Since we forgot to repeat it again when the movie starts, for all those that skips intros and therefor all the context given,

@@alexsnow3319 Theory doesn't quite check out when Agnes is white and Boo is labeled as Hispanic (indigenous) in her file in the film.

I always get so sappy watching this damn movie
Same here.
Same, makes me cry every single time
It sounds deeper, like it's been a few years
I love how the last shot of the movie is a monster coming out of a closet and going “Boo”, but the whole context is inverted
OMG... I never looked at it that way.
Never even thought of that!
Holy shit that’s amazing
That's soooooo cool! I never noticed that :D
Woah
I always liked the detail that Boo is still scared when Sully shows her the empty closet, because of course it wouldn't prove anything to her since her monster was Randal.
The fact the he associates Tom Hanks to dramas is so funny.
Hanks was first famous for staring in a sitcom dressing as a woman in the early 80s. 😂
Bosom Buddies 😁
Tom Hanks is the inverse Leslie Nielsen.
You folk need to watch the original Pink Panther movie to see the origin of that opening sequence. And it is a brilliant film in it's own right.
I second this!
The original Pink Panther is a classic that needs to be watched for all the movies it influenced.
I feel like Pixar movies age really well. When this came out, "Kitty" hit me in the feels. Now, with a 3-year-old girl of my own, it REALLY hits. TS3 always hit at the end, but with an 11-year-old boy, that ending hits differently too.

Simone’s openings are always a treat, and I got the reference to this one and couldn’t stop singing 😂
Harryhausen's the restaurant is named after Ray Harryhausen.
In the German Version the yeti has a thick Swabian Accent which is in Germany an accent that is hard to understand for people that never heard it first. But it makes for some histerical laughs because it has a singsong quality to it...

The scene with the kid getting crushed into a cube is DIRECTLY, shot for shot, from a Loony Tunes cartoon with a big dog and a kitten.
Omg learning that this movie made lotr battles possible blew my mind!

Given the monsters do shifts, and they choose doors from each time zone at a time, I think time runs at the same speed in both worlds.
In KH3, Randall literally planned to collect children's screams through sadness and trauma.
for all of boo’s “toddler babbling” they literally just strapped a microphone to a 2 year old, the behind the scenes footage is so cute🥹

4:53 - "that's a good pun" - oh my god. 🤯 I've seen this a million times and never realised that was a pun. 😂
Wow I’m dumb I just realized that to lol
"Augh, grate" - ok, I get it now. Hmm!
I've watched that part over and over trying to figure out the pun. What is it? Is it just something as simple as "going to pieces" and I'm overcomplicating it?
@@FlippytheMasterofPie he says “oh great” while he falls into a Grate☠️

Also, Wasn't that steve jobs at that point in time?? What's the time line on that?
@@PanzerShrek94 Could have been injured by a stampeding mob.
Damm I think that would’ve been dark af regardless of 9/11

PIXAR always puts a cute little movie before the main feature. This movie's short film was BIRD ON A WIRE. It was easily the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen.
Gerry’s Game is just ahead as my favorite Pixar short. Truly a gem
The thing that makes me laugh is the shorts are often little render tests of a development needed in the big film. Even PIXAR's tests are entertaining!
Easily my favorite Pixar short! 🤣
@@edgarcardenas1777They're ALL great. But BOAW had the best shock-laugh moment ever.
I think it's actually called For The Birds, but yeah, I love it too.
Okay that's just heartwarming as hell
You have to watch the "Bloopers"!
Yes!
Came here to say this
🎵 Put that thing back where it came froooooom! 🎶
He also did Mazes And Monsters... They need to react to that turkey!
He’s “the guy from Bosom Buddies”. Always will be.
If I Recall, the Jessie doll was a tease for Toy Story 2 and the Clown fish for Finding Nemo. In the past, Pixar's films would have a hint for what the next film would be.
And they still kinda do that to this day.
