  • Autodesk has released 3DS MAX 2024.2, the new version of its modeling and rendering software.
    While Autodesk usually puts out updates to 3ds Max every three months, it has been six months since the release of 3ds Max 2024.1, and presumably as a result of the extra development time, the changelog for 3ds Max 2024.2 is rather longer than usual.

    This was my first animation program back in 1996 ... I wish they would simplify the UI, it has gotten very cluttered. They can start my nesting dialog boxes and commands where those must use 60-80% show up and the others that are used 0-5% of the time embedded deeper in the program.

      that is right, Ui is not as fast as it should be since most Cpus are fast nowadays, still it struggle to redraw every time you select or copy drag an editable object, this mostly happens on ryzen cpu's with as many cores as you can count, on the other hand intel doesn't show much of a problem since it has a faster single core speed, the Ui is faster but still it shouldn't do that, 3ds max still utilizes the single core cpu speed and it prefers intel over amd

    If I update from 2024.1 to 2024.2 will my custom UI settings and plugins remain safe , or will it reset everything to default?

      I updated and everything remained the same, custom UI, shortcuts, plugins.. 👍

    3ds max and Maya need a new interface, global changes are needed, and not just change a couple of modifiers that few people use and release a new version at such a pace, the blender will simply destroy them..

      You are completely right. We all need a simple and efficient interface and we just don't want to pay a lot of money for new versions with a few simple changes. 👌

      Interface is good and requires iq above 80 to use

      They need to update the core tools and UI and get rid of deprecated features

      I am an architectural visualizer and this UI problem is real. I need too much buttons to accomplish an accurate rotate and move max. I hate it when you need to drag and slide the mouse and you can't input the right measurement as you type numbers? Why is it happening? Sketchup has this functionality way back 2010 😢.. i cant even create lines with accurate dimension..
      Is the program only intended for vizualization? I badly need max due except that it is not friendly to technical aspects architects and engineers need.
