  • The 1972 Alfa Romeo Spider is the star of Wicked Classic Cars Ep15! Today we are going to the battle of 5 compounds between Shine Supply Classic Cut, Meguiars 110 Compound, TLD the last cut, Feynlab F100 compound and Proje Car Care MF Leveling DA Polish. We are also going to finally review and apply correction Dura Coating Techologies Dura Dressing tire coating! I can't wait to show you all how well these paint correction products and detailing products work! We will top everything off with Ceramic Pro Sport ceramic coating as well!
We found this rare blue alfa romeo spider at Crystal Cove Cars and Coffee. I could not pass up the chance to do some paint correction and ceramic coating on this beautiful classic Alfa Romeo. The owner bought it in rough shape and then restored it fully even powder coating the entire underside of the car and all the alfaholics suspension components also, it looks amazing!
Today I forgot to buy new jugs of water so I only 1 gallon for my bucket, and then I have about a gallon in my main pump sprayer and 3/4 of a gallon in my back up. I took my grit guard out of my bucket, poured 1/2 oz of Feynlab Pure rinse LEss wash and then dumped in the gallon, I then soaked my 470GSm microfiber towels in there and dumped in the other 3/4 gallon from my spare pump sprayer to fully submerge, after this i pull the towels out and insert the grit guard back in. On the go thinking and problem solving technique!
This 1972 alfa romeo spider is already super clean! So its just a fast hand wash and then blow dry with my air blaster side kick air drier. We're gonna skip claying the car for now and come back after I prep the wheels and tires. I am going to use shine supply solution APC to clean the wheels and then I am going to do a quick clean of the tires with this before using the Dura Dressing kits tire cleaner it came with. TO use the tire cleaner spray it carefully on the tire and wipe up any excess product off the actual wheel or it will stain, or you can spray it on a towel and wipe it on as shown. This dura coating technologies dura dressing kit also comes with a great tire brush which I demonstrate use of on the second tire. You can use this if you spray the dura dressing tire cleaner on the tire and then scrub vigorously. Tire cleaning can take a long time, do not kill yourself doing it, spend a few days if you have to, even new tires can be grimy. You want to make sure no black crap comes up on your towel anymore, then you're ready to apply the dura dressing. I am however going to do that last, so I will cover the wheels wiht my car pro wheel covers so no compound dust gets on them and we will come back to this task later.
I will give the car a quick decontamination with my nanoskin nano clay sponge and some shine supply shine mist clay lube, the paint is super clean so this takes no time at all. It has been repainted so we do need to break ou the elcometer paint depth gauge to measure the paint which of course the measurements are all over the place ranging from under 200 microns to over 500 microns, basically that means we have plenty to work with.
Now its time to decide which of our five compounds will be the one we use! So I am going to take 1 drop of each on a clean meguiars microfiber pad and do a test spot in between each of the taped off areas. I will start with shine supply classic cut, then TLD the last cut, then Feynlab F100, Proje Car Care MF Da leveling polish, and finally meguiars 110 compound. Each of them performed well but after doing a final polish with shine supply classic polish on a HDO orange cutting pad from lake country, it was clear that the Meguiars 110 compound performed the best and left behind the fewest defects for my 60% results paint correction I wanted to perform. I am going to teach some paint correction tips and paint correction techniques for getting small areas without using a 3 inch or 2 inch or 1 inch polisher, I am old school and learned how to correct cars using only 5 and 6 inch pads and you can save yourself time and head ache with proper technique!
After all that, we did our panel prep wipe down using my alcohol and pure rinse less mix and then went back to apply Dura Dressing to the tires, tyhis is supposed to last the lifetime of tire, it was easy to apply you wipe on 2 layers or so and let it dry. DO not freak when you see it turn blue, it will dry clear! Then I applied ceramic pro sport ceramic coating to top it off! The owner was ecstatic at his brand new 1972 Alfa Romeo Spider.

Music at about 5:50 covers up your voice. Nice work otherwise.
