    With the lack of lube and honing the cylinder with an 8’ pipe to get a full 360 I’d be will to bet he could break the point off of an anvil with a tail feather of a hummingbird. Painful. These engines are still around because of the pre start procedures of the people that depended on them. Most of which were a lube & tune method and not so much a go or blow mentality. That’s something I’d cherish and bring back to an as new condition as possible. Good luck 👍

    • @JBFromOZ

      Although not obvious in the video, prior to even attempting to start I went over all oil cups and the oil feed. Recording it running was a bit of an afterthought really, wasn’t expecting to have this much drama as previously ( admittedly 8 years earlier) it started very easily

    Hi jbfromoz. Love the video! I have a diesel/kerosene engine myself. It has 2 tanks. One us for the diesel after it is started and warmed up. The Other is to start it and has gasoline. Give it a try and I will bet you will have better luck. Unless of course is it said somewhere not to use gas. Would love more info on this engine. Very nice!

    Adding oil in the cylinder would bring up cylinder compression to get her to probably start but wouldn’t fix problem in long run. Just depends on how bad she is inside of her. Valves could still need good cleaning and laped in with lapping compound. Good luck.

    The compression rings are leaking thats why it wont start the tell tsil signs of that was you couldn't get a full cycle it was seized at top dead center the rings are seized onto the piston no compression for the diesel effect to ignight the fuel vapor

    • @jetstream454
      @jetstream454 23 дня назад

      Sounds like it's leaking compression through the exhaust, possibly as well as worn rings.

    JBFromOZ could also have pitting on the cylinder walls from the rust that u had to fight through with the piston. The rings cut the surface rust off. It wouldn’t hurt to pop the head off and have a look at it. U seem to have a decent shop with all sorts of tools.

      Where are you located mate?

    • @matthewlaporte6065
      @matthewlaporte6065 5 лет назад +1

      Definitely a bad exhaust valve. You'll never get it started like that. There are most likely other faults, such as scarred cylinder, piston and rings as result from the brutish manner in which it was "unstuck". Also this is a diesel engine not kerosene. Kerosene uses electric spark, diesel only has an injector. This is most likely low pressure injection diesel similar to the Thermoil cycle of operation. Please exercise at least a little care with your "tools".

    • @JBFromOZ
      @JBFromOZ  5 лет назад

      Gday Mr Laporte!
      I have little experience with this engine, however I have had it running a couple of times up to 8 years ago. While it was covered with a tarp, the bore must have had some surface rust form.
      I agree that exhaust had an issue, which I was able to get to re-seat with some manual activation and rotation.
      I am all ears for your suggestions, and look forward to learning more.
      I hope you can see from my other 280 or so videos I do possess some ability, even though it may appear lacking in this video.
      Thanks for watching, and commenting.

    • @NathanWoodruff_OldMachinery
      @NathanWoodruff_OldMachinery 7 лет назад +3

      Hi Mate. Hit and miss is a way to govern engine speed. the easiest example is when the engine gets up to working speed the governor holds the exhaust valve open which stops the firing and the engine will slow. when the engines slows below working speed the governor lets the exhaust valves shut and it will fire like normal until at working speed. Mcdonald diesels with the brons injection system like yours are throttle governed which is where the amount of fuel for combustion is varied to speed up or slow down the engine.
      By the sounds of the video your McDonald is lacking compression which is why it won't run. Most likely with it being an old McDonald usually you can remedy this by putting some oil in the cylinder and perhaps a thinner lubricant and let it soak. Mcdonalds usually like to also be primed with oil for cold starts to get the compression up. If you want any more help just let me know.
      Regards, Nathan

    • @JBFromOZ
      @JBFromOZ  5 лет назад

      Yeah indeed! When I first attempted to start it, I had put Kero in the small tank, and diesel in the larger tank. What I was not aware of at that stage was that the tank had some rust holes between the tanks, and the kero became mixed with diesel, meaning I was trying to start it on diesel, a much harder thing when cold.

      yeah, it was something to consider, I did manage to get compression by hand lapping the valves (being used to automotive valves, I was expecting the springs to be quite high tension, but I was able to manipulate by hand, and was then able to rotate the valve against it's seat, to remove what i think must have been corrosion and muck since the last run. Once it had compression, the issue became attempting to start on diesel when cold, as the kero tank needle/seat was blocked and not delivering kero to the injector. another attempt to follow one day! thanks for watching and commenting!

      My deep compassion for your loss.
      2) Couldn't find a second part at/on your channel. But some garden stuff I will watch.
      3) Yes, you are absolutely right, Sir. Way too much agression and stupidity in this world nowadays. In addition with way too less decency nowadays it's an extremely bad combination. It sucks energy and makes me really sick sometimes.
      Best regards, luck and health to you.
