There is a dad and or a mom or uncle, someone, who opened the doors and encouraged this girl to step through. Bravo to them as well. Its why this stuff happens. Because someone told her she could, and should do it.
16 and what maybe 30 hours I know 13000 hour pilots that couldn’t have greased landings like that great job there young lady don’t ever stop one hell of an airline pilot in the making blue skies
My 16 year son’s first solo was about 3 weeks ago at about 20 hours. He’s getting ready for his 3d solo (cross country) this thurs. He’s going to fly commercial. Great job!!!
Great job! At 16 year old, Me I am 43 and my first Solo - All was going fine until I looked over and realized my passenger seat was empty, I knew I could do it I was comfortable with landing it the first time by myself, I was so happy, excited but at the same time terrified. Everything my instructor told me flash through my head so quick, but it worked. It's a feeling you would never get unless you have a crack at it, and I would not change it for the world, it was the only time I was happy being terrified. LOL, Leslie Webb Australia QLD.
Atttta girl!!! 67 yr old man here with 14 hrs in the log book so far. When I solo, if I grease a landing like you just did I’ll know I’m a proficient pilot. Thanks for posting your solo…..you’re a great inspiration!
I wish when I learned to fly I could have had my instructor on speaker phone, but he’ll back you were the big shit on the ramp if you even had a GPS he’ll it wasn’t even common to have headsets.😂 Great job!
I remember those days, in my youth, when I soloed. Aviation was good to me. No regrets! Hang in there young lady, you have a future! You have "pilot" written all over you !!
Julien Cooper again. Thank you to whoever liked my comment and anyone else who read it. After viewing this article, the RUclips loaded many more of girls and women learning to fly. I hope they and fair comments of them get lots of likes, the equality growing in flying and maintaining airplanes will make life better and safer for both sides of the crews and public. And it is so refreshing to see the talents of everyone coming to this industry. It is natural and it works.
I love to take pictures of my students right before solo & immediately after landing. There is always a tight smile before and a huge one after. Congratulations!!
Loved that grin that came over your face after your first landing. After that you were all like "yup, just another landing, done thousands of these." Outstanding and congrats!
Congrats. Very nice job and welcome to the club. After announcing your intentions to take the runway at a non-towered field be sure to check for landing traffic before proceeding.
The 150 is so fun to fly. They hardly weight anything and on top of that you have 40 degrees of flaps and hardly uses any fuel. Such great training planes. Congrats and good luck on your check ride!
In 1979 did my first solo I will not forget. You instructor commented on how much different the aircraft flies with only one person on board that really surprised me too.
My solo I was shocked when the plane shot into the air at rotation !! No instruction as I looked over and said to myself, OK you got this and all went well. Will always have that great memory.
Congratulations!!! This brings back memories of my first solo way back in September 1966 at age 17. It was a Cessna 150 N6243J My instructor was Max Shapiro.
So there you are, climbing out of 500 ft AGL and wait, what? THERE’S NO ONE IN THE SEAT BESIDE YOU!!! What an amazing rush realizing you have to put that thing down all by yourself. The satisfaction of flying those 3 circuits is beyond most things you’ll ever experience. Move on and move up… wishing you blue skies and happy landings.
Congratulations very well done! You'll remember that day forever (or so I'm told it, was only a few months ago for me 😁). I would have loved to be able to do that at 16, but even at 32 it was one of the most exciting days of my life. Looking forward to hear about when you get your certificate and where you go from there!
Great job! 👏 I got to do my solo this past December on my 16th birthday. That feeling when you takeoff and look over through the right side window to realize there is no longer a CFI blocking your view is just something else. Love it and may you have a successful and long aviation career. :)
Awesome - congratulations. As others have said write it in red in your logbook - you will never forget that first solo! Mine was way back in 1981 via Tomahawk and as your instructor mentioned without that extra weight it climbed like a rocket!😊
Great job, young lady. Brings back memories of my first solo, May 19,1990 on my 20th birthday! Looks like you were using a 150 Aerobat. You'll NEVER forget this day.
Congratulation on your first solo flight! Some of the comments on this page have pointed out the you will never forget your first solo. They're right. I was 29 years old when I did mine in 1983, and I remember it like it happened last week. The sense of satisfaction has never left. At the time, Go Pros hadn't been invented yet, so I don't have the kind of documentation you have, but I did have a pocket audio cassette recorder, and made an audio recording of my last pre-solo flight with the CFI and my first solo flight. I still listen to it from time to time. I've since become a CFI myself. I know how satisfied your CFI feels about signing you off. Congratulations to him also! Best of luck with all your future aviation pursuits.
I don't remember the exact date of my solo (I'm 72!! and it was in the 70's) but I do remember I soloed at 14 hrs. At the time, married with young children. My oldest needed eye surgery and I had to quit lessons. Hindsight being 20/20, I just wish I had finished after I got a better job with major health care....
Awesome job! You are so fortunate to be starting a flying career so young and during these times. So many opportunities for pilots out there! Good job and keep on flying!
Congratulations Else! You certainly flew a wonderful solo flight, I'm quite sure your entire Family and CFI are very proud of your accomplishment. I hope and pray you have many more safe hours ahead of you.
Wow I didn’t know you could fly a plane by yourself especially so young. Good for her!!! She’ll remember this experience the rest of her life. There’s 16 year olds, he’ll, 18,19,30 year old people out there, who can’t even drive a damn car!!!! Props to you dad!!! You raised a great daughter. Hopefully I can only get close to that with mine. You’re both great people in this ignorant world. This is the kind of girl, that’s going to be a woman someday flying F35’s….. Much respect!!!
Congrats on your solo. If I may interject one thing. When taking the runway you should be looking at the approach to see if any plane is on final. They may have not heard your radio call that you were departing. The 1st and 3rd takeoff you never check for traffic. Congrats stay safe and fly high.
I remember my solo day, we did a few touch and go's with my instructor at which time we pulled on to the taxi way and he got out. His words were do 3 with full stops and have fun. I lined up down the runway and my first shock was how the plane ( 152 Aerobat ) just shot into the air at rotation and climbed like crazy LOL I forgot the performance was going to be better with just me on board. Did my 3 with full stops and was happy that portion was done and it was a day I will always remember. Else you handled your 3 like a pro, keep having fun !!
Congrats! Just remember to clear the final approach path before pulling onto runway. Taking off from KHOT couple of summers ago I made my radio call for departure and did last check of before pulling out and there was a plane on short, SHORT final. His radios weren't working. He did a touch and go. I took off and the guy almost had a mid-air on downwind with a plane entering the pattern. Keep your head on a swivel and eyes out the windows in the pattern. Good job! Nice landings!
The first and biggest thing my flight instructor would have clamped down with her was her lack of checking for traffic before making any of her pattern turns, including prior to taking the active.
Flying is the only occupation where you don’t need a College degree to start learning to fly… I started flying when I retired at 50 and it was embarrassing to see all the young kids in ground school classes… I stopped flying right before my solo… went back to work… flying is an expensive hobby, but, one of the greatest positive experiences is landing the plane ….hitting the strip with a perfect landing is an amazing feeling…
Bravo young lady! When most kids are itching to get their drivers license you’re flying airplanes, we’ll done!
There is a dad and or a mom or uncle, someone, who opened the doors and encouraged this girl to step through. Bravo to them as well. Its why this stuff happens. Because someone told her she could, and should do it.
and paid the $15,000 it takes to get there

She was so comfortable at it. Good job young lady. Congrats..

The smirk after the CFI left!!! We all had that same smirk. Great job girl!
Dang she's brave! Amazing what a kid can do!
I am hopeful for the future of aviation with young people entering the ranks of pilots.
She appears so confident and relaxed. Love to see it. She’ll make a great pilot for many years to come.
I wish when I learned to fly I could have had my instructor on speaker phone, but he’ll back you were the big shit on the ramp if you even had a GPS he’ll it wasn’t even common to have headsets.😂 Great job!
As a 56 year-old who's afraid of flying, this was quite inspiring. Congratulations!
Wish there was audio with this video. Great job; been considering getting my license and this gives me hope.
There is audio
I’m loving it
I remember those days, in my youth, when I soloed. Aviation was good to me. No regrets! Hang in there young lady, you have a future! You have "pilot" written all over you !!
Congratulations Else! Great dedication and professionalism. Kudos to your instructor for helping you get there.
Congratulations Else! Keep up the good work. Welcome to the club! See you at the flying field.
Great first solo flight. And you went for it with no hesitation. Enjoy your hobby or career, it's #1.

Yes, I sorta remember my first solo… March, 1969…but mostly I remember having to dodge dinosaurs on the runway… whew! And my arms were so tired….
I remember doing that at 16 way back in 1976 as a Civil Air Patrol cadet.
Loved that grin that came over your face after your first landing. After that you were all like "yup, just another landing, done thousands of these." Outstanding and congrats!
