VIDEO VIEWS BEST IN THE EXPAND MODE with 480p. Here is a slideshow of an eighteen page 1970 HD-41 dealers brochure. In 1970 the Allis Chalmers plant in Springfield, Illinois started producing the HD 41, the largest crawler tractor in the world at that time, and the first crawler over 500 horsepower. Fiat bought controlling interest in AC in 1974 and that company became Fiat Allis. The 41 was upgraded over the years between 1970 to 1983. The last upgrade in 1983, the 41 became a FD50. The factory closed in 1985 and then demolished several years later. This slideshow was made with VideoStudio Pro X2. Наука
Great video on a great piece of machinery! It’s as mean as it looks.
I did my apprentiship as a fitter with AC 1966-1970 in Newcastle Australia. we built graders, screens and small crushers(jaw and hydro cones)
I'm sure people are familiar with the saying 'old is gold'.I love this and other old machines.Cheers from Guyana.
HD41 was a huge leap in Human Tech. A/C engineers devoloped a moster dozer, and it was not easy. It took 8 years of trial and error. A lot of effort went into it back in the day, just like the NASA space program, really. This machine led to todays super dozers D11 and D575
You're funny
Thats one great video buddy.! I saw one working way back when around 1975-6. I love that big dozer! Thanks for making this vid. Also, Ive never seen this brochure before..
Allis chalmers corporation 🇺🇸💪💪
@orangeind Me too! If AC would have stayed in business I would have had 40 years of service. I did the prior to guards and the final inspections on the 41 crawlers at the AC / Fiat Allis plant in Springfield, IL.1970-82.
@dragonriversteel The 41 final drives were finally beefed up in the final upgrade to the FD50 by adding an extra planetary gear which made a total of four planetary gears in each carrier assembly. This upgrade was about 1982 and by that time Cat and Kumatsu were building larger crawlers with a way more horsepower. The FD50 was old technology by then.
Kumatsu eventually beat Cat at there own game by building a bigger dozer than the Cat D-11 and CASE-IH beat Cat by building a 4 track tractor which in my opinion Cat should have put that idea into motion before CASE-IH . Cat should have also come up with a Cat D-12 by now . Then they sold out their tractor line to AGCO which has been rebadging the Cat Challenger 4x4 and rubber track tractors and putting European engines in them then selling them as European tractors as well as putting the Cat Challenger name on Massey Ferguson tractors and marking up the price . Cat is losing money off the idea that they pioneered to Kumatsu , CASE-IH and AGCO .
i like my HD 21 B 1975 year balanced and works really well ,
Have a new torque converter for a 21 if you need it
524hp.Same a the Fiat-Allis 41-B.Nice video
First Gear has a nice 1/25 model of this one. It weighs about 2kg and is super detailed. Just in case the guy below does not win the lotto
@56pw Thanks. This brochure is unusual as it measures 10" X 12" when closed and 10" by 24" when open. The first photo of the man in front of the 41 actually measures 10" X 24".
@itrrfan2 ,
Thanks for the info. I told my wife if we ever hit the lotto. This dozer will be in my collection I'll be starting. Never seen one up close or operated one but I'm sure she is a beast when operating.

Hi, great video. Any possibility of posting the main dimensions from the brochure? I would like to make a scale model of the machine.
I took some photos of it when it was setting at Sherman IL.. Sure would like to get a video of it working.
I am a proud owner of FL14D, it's a front loader with rippers on tracks. I bought it for use on my place in the Texas hill country. It's been great a few minor issues, hose replacements, belts and cylinder seals replaced. Aside from that she runs great! I need a manual for it can someone please tell me where I can get one. Thanks people.
Love this old dozer. Only one problem with her. Final drives.....
well i own the last fiat-allis 41b located 15 minutes south of springfield il. serial number 764
Need a transmission or final drive?
I have them in stock
If I water my hd7 every day will it grow up like this???
Great video, please can I have a scan copy of the brochure?
Lovely background music.Who did it and whats the name?
the bigshots and rich people in springfield never wanted ac . uaw wages made the rest of springfield businesses look bad . UAW LOCAL 1027 . the old man worked in the paint shop . the efficiency experts , and the wops ( fiat ) destroyed the company.
I think Allis Chalmers was better. Fiat Allis ended up with Allis Chalmers
