i would much rather watch these shows than anything on tv today
i still do.
Same
Amen to that!
Me too!
Same!! Matter of fact Ive been binging and having a good time 😊 It's such an comforting feeling watching these. ❤
One of the delights of this series is Karloff himself doing the on-screen introductions. He memorized them all, and usually did them in a single take (as well as doing several different episode-intros at a single session, in order to save time and $). As a narrator, he couldn't be beat; if you ever have time and really think about it, listen to the audio only of the 1966 "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"; Karloff's narration is superb...world-class. LR
Karloff's narration of The Grinch is superb!
Mr William Henry Pratt, great English actor !
Oh yes, Karloff captured the black heart of The Grinch
It's ""..the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day..." that really gets me. LR@@cindirose3390
I guess I am not old enough? The only actor I have heard of is Boris
I saw this episode on TV as a kid of 11 years old. That last scene showing her face scared the crap out of me. That memory has been with me all of my life. Tonight I got to see it again for the second time at 72 years of age. Brought a smile to my face to come full circle with Miss DeVore. Great story. Definitely recommended. ;)
I am your age and had I seen this, I would have been scared as well. When I was 4 or 5 years old, my mother used to take her beauty nap. I would watch scary movies on ou television. I had night terrors. Never told my parents!
I did the same with Jaws
Name of flick ? You were what ? About 13 yrsold , while I was around 6-7 yrs around 63-64 , probably ?
I found it interesting seeing a pretty lady hanged by her pretty , slender neck. Also, depicting her suffering from the noose as the rope vibrates due to her spastic dangling . Sometimes shown , especially with females , a shoe , shoes falling off .
Isn't television wonderful? I've had similar experiences with various shows and movies, myself. It's so good to get a piece of your youth back and be able to relive it. Like seeing an old friend after so many years.
Funny isn't it how the black and white , acting and music scores back then would freak us out and still do today. Modern films with all the graphics just don't have that sinister eeriness. Plus we were totally enthralled with the language and classic looks. Some might say cheesy but I love them and a big THANK YOU.
So True 😁👍
Most everything they've been making for the last 30 years is garbage in my opinion especially TV series
I watched Game of Thrones first Season in Black and White , bass range reduced in 360p
it simulates the feel to an extent
I only recently saw a few episodes of the worst TV series ever, but it lasted 11 seasons: The Walking Dead. "Walking" is what happens, a lot. Different groups of people walk in the woods and kill each other on encounter. Maybe they encounter a group of Dead walking in the woods and then neutralize them or are killed by them. Repeat in the next episode.
I just read she died at age 92. To whom it may concern, I loved this lady, as a lady and as a superb actress. Man she was great. R I p.
92 so she kept the wig ! 👩🏻🦲 ( joke no disrespect mean RIP )
She lives on in film! ! !
aawe, thanks for sharing. These movies paved the way for so many other movies.
well is she the old series cat woman i need an answer thanx
@@ShpookyMetalGoogle it. Or go to Wikipedia. You don't need anyone to answer that for you.
My parents used to boot us kids from the living room when Thriller came on. It was only recently I found these episodes online. Have been enjoying them immensely
I love Boris Karloff, he's an amazing actor, and human being (I've read that he consistently helped kids that were scared, he'd go get them and walk to the set with them). It's hard form me to watch the series because of the blasting string section blowing me out of bed every 10 minutes. If you doubt me, play one for yourself and listen. The minute they take a break the volume goes from 3 up to 11. If you put the volume down so the orchestra doesn't make your ears bleed, you can't hear their voices. I love them though, thank you for posting.
Great how this series is enabled to be seen without greedy lawyers shutting it down. Picture if you will, real scripts, actors and the best narrator in the business. Thanks Boris. PS/ imagine watching this at 7 years old getting the Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock all in one week?! I can't get no...
Cliff TAYLOR : Am surprised Hollywood censorship didn't try block this episode. Being as that how old studio system worked.
What made these shows great was the suspense during the show leading up to the spectacular ending , And Boris Karloff "s voice just added to the show's theme!
Mon-Fri evenings on ME TV I get both series back to back.
Thriller was one of mother's favorite television series. I wasn't born when the series originally aired, but I did see it in reruns later in the 1960s and this episode always stayed with me. It was terrifyingly well written, acted and filmed. Thank you for posting this!
15:30 no homeless people anywhere. what's happened to us
I saw them in the early 70s.
@@lapacesiaconvoiHomeless people back then existed too, but they were simply arrested or put in jail if they camped out on city streets!
This was a very underrated show, and a number of episodes are still as thought provoking as then about subjects we all too often shy away from addressing. This was a very good episode especially.
A nice role for John Fiedler, giving him more to do than simply playing his usual mousy types. Terrific character actor.
There is a Star Trek [TOS] episode, I think in the second season, where he plays a jack-the-ripper type serial killer. The episode title is [I think] "Wolf Among the Fold."
Oh ! is that his name , l only know his face . 👍
@@stevensica89 "Wolf in the fold" , Steven
@@stevensica89 He was also in a Alfred Hitchcock episode. He played another quiet mad killer type. Amazing performance!
@@BebeLush2 Do you know the title of the episode. i might b able o search it out on the web using that and the IMDB. He was also the meek juror in 12 Angry Men.
Excellent movie! The wig coming off reminds me of what an evil jezebel spirit or narcissistic person is without their mask. God bless everyone!
Jezebel spirit isn't real.. it's just what you say about your enemies.. when they have been pushed over the edge and how you wish they were ripped apart by the dogs.
My favorite episode of the old Thriller! So nice to see it again after so many decades.
S James thank you for the comment
Na. I like The Grim Reaper best.
SPOILER ALERT:

Since I wear wigs,I'm so in love with this episode😍😍😍😍😍
Lol me too. And the one you're wearing in your avatar is beautiful on you!
Do the wigs ever get unbearably hot and does your head sweat? I’ve always been hesitant to wear a wig because of that.
Let’s ask miss Devore! Then call Tyrone! Lol!
Lol
The great Boris Karloff! Love the first scene, and Boris' entrance. I grew up in the 1960's, and shows like this in reruns were a staple of my childhood.
Loved Patricia Barry. So beautiful and talented. One of my favorite episodes. I had a lot of favorites of this great show.
I have never heard of this show before. If it weren’t for the internet, I would have never seen it.
She never takes the wig off. That has to be one funky wig! Lol!
"Will you get this female mutt out of here before I rip her to shreds "! I love the dialog from this period of early television! Definitely more classy than the standard gutter talk that Hollywood uses today . Thank-you for posting this! I'm a subscriber as of 5 minutes ago. Regards.
They weren't allowed to say "bitch" back then!
@@gregingram4996 Mutt is much more impressive.
As I child this episode & the Night Gallery one with Roddy McDowell made me a nervous wreck.
The episode about the painting scared the crap out of me.
OMG! Yes. That was the Night Gallery Pilot. It was fabulous and so scary. It’s a shame the rest of the Night Gallery episodes were not as good.
The one with Roddy McDowall was and still is the Best episode Ever!!❤️
Why can't we find that episode anywhere such a disappointment
you must be an old timer
OH MY GOODNESS!
6 Years late to this video.. I didn't know Boris Karloff B&W movies still existed.. For this indeed is a pleasant surprise. I use to watch him years ago when I was a child...
The Old Classics, that never get old watching.🍿😁📺
John Fiedler -- and to think the same guy who voiced Piglet in Disney's Winnie the Pooh series played the agent-publicist of the star in this episode as well as Jack the Ripper in Star Trek... What a range there -- to hell and back, literally!
FYI, this was a VERY good episode of an exceptional series. This is about the third time I've seen this episode as of today.
thank you
thank you
AvengerII : I always thought John Fielder's acting ability was underrated. His performance are always unique.
I certainly recall him as Mr. Peterson on The Bob Newhart Show.
Karloff's distinctive voice lends a grand air of sophistication mixed with menace to the narration. His show, like many others of the 1950's and 1960's, gave work to many fine actors and actresses. John Fiedler was one such great character actor. He always looked the same, no matter what era he acted in. Brilliant in any role, and he'll always be remembered as Mr. Hengist in Star Trek's Wolf in the Fold episode, and as lawyer J. Noble Daggett in the original True Grit.
Patricia Barry was just delightful, and what a great supporting cast! Very fine script, too.
I'll bet she watched "Singing in the Rain" before playing Laura Devore.
That one guy was Jack the Ripper on Star Trek!
I remember this so very well! The most frightening and terrible image of her face at the end! I had to sleep in my parents room for a long time. I was only 7....I was not allowed to watch Thriller after that...,which was perfectly alright by me!l! Lol : )
P
thanks for the share and comment
I actually remember seeing this as a kid and also Very disturbed by it. Seeing the glamorous woman turn so horrible was very unexpected for me then.
Lol..Iove old shows & movies.
When I was seven or so it was The Night Gallery episode ca!!ed The Sin Eater. Ahhhhhh! Nice that we all managed to survived great tv!
The very same situation for me as well.
Scared me so much I couldn’t even hear the theme music for the show without being terrified.
If she would've just listened to Piglet.
Piglet!!
And YOUR COMMENT is the reason Imma watch this episode right now at 10pm at nite!! Thanx!
@@marklauzon186 Ooo! Im gonna watch it again, too!
🤣😆
Lol! Thanks for reminding me.
I have not thought of Thriller in many years. Great post!
This was way better than I expected. Such a superb ending.
John Fiedler is my boy in this. He does the supporting role like nobody else!
my gosh, has John Fiedler always looked the same?
It must be his wig!
"As sure as my name is Boris Karloff..."
But your name is William Henry Pratt.
Anyway, he was a great actor and this episode of "Thriller" is very good.
Always liked her...For those of us diehard Patricia Barry fans? Please-don't miss - one of her best is THE CHASER, a Twilight Zone with George Grizzard (no slouch in the acting dept himself), and John Mc Intire. A delightfully wicked story, on the theme of "be careful what you wish for..."
The theme of a mature actress seeking to make a comeback was in the air since 1950's "Sunset Boulevard." An episode of "Twilight Zone" dealt with the theme too. BTW yes, Patricia Barry looks lovely here. And I always enjoy the work of character actor John Fiedler.
thank you, thank you my friend
Perry Mason also did a "comeback" episode with a lot of well-known actors/actresses. The episode included a very young Dick Clark as an agent/writer.
I worked as "staff" at several events and you can always tell a celebrity's true nature -- it's in how they treat us nobodies. Ms. Barry was always a lady; pleasant to everyone, polite, generous and just lovely. Unfortunately there are not many celebrities such as she was.
You're thinking of the 8MM Shrine episode of TZ with the wondrous Ida Lupino!!
This thing scared the crap outta me, when I was 10 years old (in 1962). I’ve never forgotten it…
I've seen Patricia Barry in several episodes and just adore her style and her voice. Linda Watkins, aka, Arabella Foote, played one of the more interesting and comedic roles. Those hats! I love hats but my God, the hats in the 1960's were designed by European artists making fun of Americans! The one Arabella wore in the bar looked like a straw waste basket for a bathroom turned up-side-down with plastic flowers sewed onto it, and tall enough for a beehive hairdo! HILARIOUS!
Reminds me of all the Aqua Net arisol hairspray that helped put a hole in Earth's Ozone layer.
Like the feed bags on the I Love Lucy episode in Paris.
Oh the horror of the old woman face! It causes men to fall into fountains and off of balconies, shrieking in fear. I hadn't realized what a powerful weapon I possess!
thank you
Gaia So great episode
I ain't, sceered uv ya
I love every episode of Thriller. They use to show them on late night tv
in the 80's. I was already a big Karloff and classic horror mystery!
I have on dvd watch over and over! Hollyweird couldn't make this today!
Hollyweirdandwooden.
One of my Top 10 favorite episodes of the series, with "Lethal Ladies" being my favorite, with an extraordinary performance by Rosemary Murphy in a dual role. A bit of trivia about Patricia Barry is that William Frawley ("Fred Mertz") left the bulk of his estate to her after his death. It's a bit of a mystery why he did.
Fiedler😂
"As sure as my name is . . . William Henry Pratt"
John Fiedler, the accountant/manager, was in so many TV shows and movies. My first glimpse of him was in "Raison in the Sun" -- the man tasked with the unenviable job of trying to persuade Sidney Portier's family from moving into the all-white neighborhood. A very good character actor. And Patricia Barry, in whatever role she played, was always shrewd and quite in charge of circumstances -- always giving an good performance. This "Thriller" was very well done.
Not to mention the Bob Newhart Show.
I liked him as Piglet in Whinnie the Pooh 😊
Thank you for posting these episodes from "Thriller"
I saw this as a child and nightmares for years! I just watched the ending now and laughed.
Same with me. I have to watch it to get over it. Lol.
But the VERY FINAL SHOT..the freeze frame of the homely maid now made beautiful..with the blues-y trumpet on the soundtrack...is sheer brilliance.
I watched this as child and it frightened me so along with 'The Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman', that was about 60yrs ago. 😊 They are both wonderful to watch again. The gentleman who plays the bookkeeper was also in 'That Touch of Mink' with Doris Day and Cary Grant. Love these old black and white goodies. I no worries about my grandchildren watching them too.
Wow - Arabella sure had a crazy taste in hats.
a hedda hopper tribute
I’m loving it, I’m binging on these old black and whites.
I am still blushing from that Shameless dancing sequence.
Love Boris Karloff and his voice.

The scariest .But I only saw maybe a half dozen as a child.Any scarier than this? Whoa! A very intense episode. Gives new meaning to the phrase "hell toupee"! Thanks for sharing this.
I love Patricia Barry’s acting!
This reminds me so much of "The Picture of Dorian Gray".
“Thriller” is an absolute classic. When I was a kid, it was “must see TV.” My favorite episodes were “Pigeons from Hell” and “Cheaters.”
Meg Payton I have never forgotten her name. Searching for this episode for years. I first saw this as a young child. Watching Patricia Barry do the Twist was amazing! She was such a
beautiful woman.
The dress is fabulous! It reminds me of The Roaring 20s and the 1960s TV 📺 show Hullabaloo dancers.
Patricia Barry was a remarkable versatile actress/very sensual and in this episode a touch of Marilyn Monroe/the transformation is incredible when Miss Devore puts on the wig! This episode is a very Hollywood study of politics/over the hill at 38/sexual favors/ revenge/blackmail/gossip columnists! So little has changed since in the Hollywood scene! Where is that wig of Meg Payton now? Many actresses could benefit from that wig!!!!! "Oh Georgie, isn't it marvy how everything turns out!"
Great
Your right. . . Some things in Hollywood never change !
Patricia Barry was an excellent actress and came right across the river from me in Davenport Iowa. This is one of Thriller's best episode. An excellent series that was cut short way too soon.
I've always loved the Zone episode featuring Ms. Barry, where the poor schmuck that's nuts about her gets the love potion.
I haven't seem this since I was a kid. I'm in my 60's now. The Thriller series with B. Karloff was scary stuff.
The dance at the party. The band. The flapper dress! The horror, the horror! Thank the gods for Rock n Roll!!! 1956 indeed! Rocket 88!
Boris Karloff had such a unique voice. Perfect for narration.

The acting is amazing!!!!
Final scene: Ms . Devore is no more!
When I a little girl, I so this episode at 10 pm at night. This scared the Crap out of me. Called for mama.
How thrilling! You say based on a short story by August Derleth? Hell, he lived in Sauk City, Wi, and was my neighbor's best school buddy. They're all long gone, now. Sad, how time passes.
OMG that hat!
Then I saw the purse!!!!
My mom had leather purses like that, they were called "bags", they all had tiny brass feet. The better ones cost thousands today.
Oh..and the purse had to match your shoes.
Boris Karloff, William Henry Pratt, some of the best horror actors of the past were English, Christopher Lee, & Peter Cushing, never seen these before Hammer horror movies were the best.
All of the formal courtesies and protocols prior to sending someone to her death. Very macabre indeed 😕
Either they were attracted to her or she was using witchcraft on them.
Night gallery is one of my most favorite series so was Friday the 13 the series
Fantastic! I have subscribed. I had so much to do, instead, I was caught up in watching Boris Karloff's "A Wig for Miss Devore". Enjoyed this blast from our past.

Patricia Barry was so pretty!
A sure sign of this episode being made in 1961 is Miss DeVore doing the Twist vigorously in a special dress equipped with lengthy fringes.
Based on the short story of the same name, written by Robert Bloch.
Takes me back to my childhood when I was obsessed with the macabre, and to a large degree still am.
This episode scared the heck out of me when I was little. The shocking image of her messed-up face ranks up with a similar one of Harry Townes in the great episode "The Cheaters." Still packs a punch, I think.
Gary, the hands looked so scary and real, I was really impressed by how scary the face was at the end. Excellent make up effects! I have the watch the "Cheaters" now to check it out.
I've been bingeing on Thriller episodes the last couple days; people keep comparing them to Alfred Hitchcock Presents and/or The Twilight Zone, but neither of those (great) shows ever went as horrifyingly far as this one did.
@@bookerjones8123 Yes this one was really good.
Yes! And kudos to talented Linda Watkins playing Arabella the columnist in this Wig episode as well as a frowsy cougar in The Cheaters. Excellent in two very different roles, this versatile actress also graced The Parent Trap and Good Neighbor Sam among others. Deft at both comedy and drama, she deserves to be better known!
Maybe the movie "Bad Hair" was inspired by "A Wig for Miss Devore"
I hoped it was going to be the inspiration for the Simpson's Treehouse of Horror when Homer had an (evil) hair transplant.
Its the beautiful furniture i love in these old films 💞
With the handsome John Baragrey who in my opinion
has a touch of Jerry Orbach about him.

This episode is worth it for the cars alone.
That guy was some kind of loyal. I need that kind of true friend. Attorneys, what attorneys...gotcha
The THRILLER TV show had one distinct feature that THE TWILIGHT ZONE and OUTER LIMITS sorely lacked : SEX APPEAL ! It featured some of the 60s sexiest women at the beginning of their careers : Ursula Andress, Mary Tyler Moore, Elizabeth Montgomery, etc. AND some rather unknown but stunning women like the one who gets hanged here at the beginning : Pamela Searle ! VAVOOM !! (Heck, one episode called YOURS TRULY JACK THE RIPPER even features then-famous stripper Beverly Powers in a sexy musical number).
The wig is a metaphor for today's use of botox and fillers. Remove it and the people look hideous!!
A kid in the early 60's I loved these old Karloff shows

This story line eerily paraillels Marilyn Monroe's last film. Although 3 years younger than this character, she had been in films roughly the same amount of time as Sheila Devore. Also, a pin-up queen. Marilyn too had been off the screen for over a year. And, when she did come back, she looked even more beautiful than ever before. Strange, this episode was filmed in the months before Marilyn started that last film in 1962. One of histories very odd coincidences, only seen after the fact.
Her laugh at 36:10 is very MM but that pipsqeak voice is more Liz Taylor
Well, Monroe was m-a-g-i-c when in character so I can see the parallel!!
I only remember Marylin.
Classic horror outshines the modern , over the top gore of today. Nothing is left to the and we always know the endings.
