- THE BANNER SAGA trilogy gave me the chance to write 3 ending credit songs that each represented a fantastic challenge, not to mention the wondrous opportunity to collaborate with some world-class vocalists. Here are all 3 in succession, featuring the brilliance of @malufenix @Arstidir and @eivormusic, and of course @PeterHollens and @taylordavisviolin

Hello. I recently finished playing the TBS trilogy and frankly I'm glad I did. I can't express how beautiful these games are, this beauty increases with the osts of each game. It saddens me that this Saga does not have the fame and recognition it so richly deserves. Thank you for creating such beautiful osts for this video game saga.
I never played The Banner Saga, but I must play. For music. This songs... so beautiful.
As a youth (13) in 2013, I fell in love with the Banner Saga's gameplay and aesthetics, through its (unfortunately) neglected free online version, Factions. It would take me quite some time after, as a recently legal adult (18) in 2018 (after the final game's release), whence I had enough finances, to fall in love with the story. And through that whole journey, the most surprising find for me was the series' soundtrack, which I have seemingly fallen in love the deepest with. Now I am (still) a young adult (21) in the odd times of 2021, writing this comment in hopes that my appreciation would be seen.
Salam, Ser Wintory! Hail, say a young man from the far tropical isles of the Philippines! A deep thanks for your work, and may the Divine bless ye, as he has by delivering your art into my life.
What an immensely lovely note!! Thank you so much :) It really means a lot
All three songs are beautiful, but I just love how Our Steps, To The Night exudes this vibe of quiet resignation. It perfectly captures the feel of the second game.
Onward is just so beautiful and melancholic :')
Whenever I need a cleansing cry, I pop the Banner Saga Soundtrack in...
It always works...
Fantastic music, always triggers the nostalgia when I listen to it. Thank you so much for writing it and bringing the Banner Saga trilogy to life.
I just beat the trilogy yesterday. So many people died. Fitting songs, wish they were longer.
the banner saga songs really gives me chills when listening to them I may not understand the lyrics but goddamn does the game give it such a storied rhythm
The translations really deepen the meaning of the lyrics
I forgot just how beautiful this piece is
Your Banner Saga score is absolutely wonderful. I always come back to it, especially when I happen to be walking in the mountains, on a cold misty evening. Thank you to all those involved making it.
@Austin Wintory, you made a person so ignorant about music (me) fall deeply in love with everything about music. Thank you!
P.S. I am using the word "ignorant" here on purpose ;)
What a beautiful statement. Thank you
I'm so glad to see you do an As Noted on TBS. Hopefully more will come (especially for We Are All Guests Upon The Land), because those works deserve to be analyzed and explained. They're without a doubt some of your best out there. Thanks again for the hours (years, now, really) of emotions and entertainment you provided through your music!
I plan to do that one eventually, though there are a bunch coming first
@@awintory Take your time, keep being awesome and thanks for engaging with your community!
After so many years, the emotions are still there. Thank you for such perfect music for my favorite game!
you and dallas spoil us :)
Too kind
great melody! Love seeing it written out
The banner saga ost should be celebrated as one of the greatest video game soundtracks!
The end credit songs are a big part of why the BS trilogy is so close to my heart. Thank you for these incredible tracks 🙌🙌
Im really just here for the banner saga as noted that shit is always gonna be my fave composition 200%
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I bought and tried playing the Banner Saga, but perhaps because I stink at chess, I couldn't get a hang of the gameplay and was losing the first battle like an idiot. The music and story are so interesting, though, that I plan to watch a playthrough.
Small question; how come things are timed so the notes of the music start when the end of the scrolling bar reaches them instead of at the initial contact? As a experienced orchestral musician, that seemed to me like waiting a millisecond after the conductor indicates a beat before playing. XD
They’re timed for the playhead to be exactly over the center of the note, a visual decision based on taste
Hey austin i ve decided to pursue a composition degree, what universities do you recommend?
To be blunt, I'm not so sure I do recommend university. I went to USC and NYU and had magnificent experiences overall, but I was also very lucky. In general, it is a mountain of debt and time in exchange for something that you can actually largely teach yourself. Follow your instincts, research but don't assume you MUST go to university.
