in my game it is Rook that died. I was glad it was him because for me Alette is so important to him. If that was daughter my i would do all my best to protect her even if it cost my life. the only thing that keeps Rook strong is because of his daughter and if she dies im sure he will forever regret his decision of sending his daughter to die instead of him. this is a very beautiful game. a game with a story that will make you feel emotions as if you are reading a book or watching a movie. looking forward on buying the part 2.
This ending made most sense to me. Annette is a young innocent girl at the beginning and Rook spends the whole story trying to protect her,him finally accepting that she has grown up and then facing the consequences of letting her shoot the arrow was pure plot gold and it ripped my heart out.
Cirac1 I don't know. I think that the ending with Alette living is the best. In a certain way, it is like Rooke had to liderate the group, and with his death, his daughter have to grown up to command the rest.
That is good I must admit. I just think the tragedy of Rook's daughter growing up throughout the journey to the point he finally stops treating her like a little girl is bittersweet in that she is truly grown up for a moment and then he loses her as punishment for trusting her,
Rook taking the shot made more sense to me. He spent the game trying to protect his daughter, and even though he paid the ultimate price in the end, he successfully did so.
@@richardshiflett5181 If memory serves the reason Juno takes Rook to get this silver arrow is because she knows he "would do anything to protect his daughter" or "do anything to get back to Alette" something along those lines. His main motivation is to protect his daughter and by taking the shot he does so. Besides he isn't a poor shot himself and he is successful so...
It also made sense for Rook to let Alette have the arrow, at least to me, because throughout the game Alette was too afraid to fight enemies that are not Dredge but still did not want to disappoint her father, and when the time came for the finale Alette developed a backbone to help Rook. There's just a lot of reasons that makes the option between Rook and Alette to fire the arrow that are valid.
@@one-wingedangel5107 Agreed. I made alette take the shot as well in my first playthrough for the exact same reason. It's the same dillema of "fatherly protection vs freedom of the child" that was a massive theme in the witcher 3. However, the ending where alette dies was too painful for me to handle as the "canon" ending, so I redid it with rook instead. It just felt more right. As Theoden said: "No parent should have to bury their child".
When it comes to digital games, I think this is the most touching thing I've experienced so far. I've played and collected games since the 80s, and I love hundreds of games for different reasons, but this is just... I dunno what it ist that makes me shiver all over. I might as well blame Austin Wintory.
@Imeriath Seelenhauch Ancestors smhancestors. I'm from Finland and I could pull all sorts of ancient northern goblin mythology from my arse any day of the week. But that's not the point. Yes, Banner Saga is a great game. The soundtrack is awesome, the world building is thrilling and the artwork is exquisite. Mythology wraps it all up, yeah, but the themes are universal and relatable. If you enjoy this game only because of some ethno-nationalistic titillations I don't want to share my beer with you.
Not only was I shocked the game was over , but that choosing to let Alette be a grown up and this being the consequence tore me up. I think if it wasn't so sudden I actually woulda cried.
En mi partidad decidi darle la flecha a alette como un voto de confianza de un padre hacia su hija, realmente me cogio desprevenido su muerte... maldito juego es demasiado bueno.
Sometimes, games can transcend their unrealistic status and become a deeply gripping story. I guided their every step, god dammit, and each death was felt. But this one was felt a little more.
I felt like it made more sense for Rook to die, for Us to die. We spent so much of the game growing into our own as a leader and building bonds, it would make the death of ourselves the perfect close to the game. That to me seemed like the most impactful ending.
I think the reason this cutscene hit so hard is because it was all my fault. I spent the entire game being inclusive and trying to save everyone so when alette asked to deal the final blow I let her despite the risks. I thought that it would be like most media out there where they overcome the foe and come out triumphant. Maybe a couple of side characters would die to give it a pyrrhic victory feel but I did not expect that my decision would directly lead to her death. So there I was. Shocked and in grief. And as the ship sails into the darkness and the flame dies out a tear rolls down my cheek. 10/10, I'll try not to make the same mistake again.
I just beat this game...and I had to confirm this was the real ending. Will there be sequels to the game? Cause....I fell like nothing rally got resolved. The giant serpent, the on coming darkness, the reason the gods were dead....all that stuff...never really came up (unless I really missed something big.) I really enjoyed this game...but I felt cheated that it ended with so many ends untied.
apimyfriend Were did they say that exactly. Because I continued to look things up after posting this comment and it seemed to say they were going to make a sequel.
He is wrong. This is the first of three planned games (I think, anyway.) Banner Saga 2 is in production, but there was some problem because they were getting sued for using "saga" in their title, from the creators of "candy crush saga" (which is ridiculous)
I hope we learn more about what happened to Rook/Alette once he/she died in Banner Saga 3. I thought that, with the gods dead, them somehow going to some place after death needed explanation.
I had my random music shuffle on when the ending came. I was tearing up but then. Aint no sunshine when she's gone came up and oh boy did it fit well . I cried like the little bitch i am
In my play through 3 peps were ALWAYS in my party. Rook, Alette and Iver.. When Iver lost an arm I thought he die and stopped playing for a couple of days.. When the moment came I put Alette as far away as possible. I even wanted to not let her fight in the final battle as an extra cautionary step. Was literally my first instinct. Alette. Best archer in the game, bench. I'll be damned if I let my videogame daughter take such risks xD Also with overwatch she becomes a beast!
NONONONO! SHE COULDn'T DIE! FOR FUCK SAKE! WHY SHE'S DIE!?!?!?!? She's was so innocent and don't want harm anyone. Why she? ... fuck I hope she's in better world, then our.
Okay i played the game but never beat it but WTF!!! Rook daughter DIES!? T^T so fucking sad! Does everyone else die too like the extra important characters?
well wether rook or his daughter die is depending on who fires the arrow to slay bellower. i always chose rook as the one who lived just felt right to me.
This ending made me surprisingly emotional for a character I didn't know I cared that much about
That's right.
And I really wonder, how is something like this possible?
Love that last shot with the two trees, so symbolic.
They earned the night...

+Cirac1 Well.....i made that Rook shoot the arrow instead of Annete. Seriously, I am the only one who done that?
+Alber Un By the way, is Alette, not Annete.
Right you are - but I still think it fits better with Rook living. The ultimate fuck you ending, though kind of liberating at the same time.

No it doesn't. His daughter is the better shot and they only had one chance

i cry everytime
This was the best, most beautiful ending i have ever seen.

Said Rook, "It should've been me!"

The two trees ... was that a deliberate nod to Tolkien, I wonder?
Rook and Alette actually.

Nope. The creators said that there will be no sequels.
apimyfriend Were did they say that exactly. Because I continued to look things up after posting this comment and it seemed to say they were going to make a sequel.
KellySmith555 They did say something in their page that our progress in the game will carry over to the next one. =

apimyfriend
Why do you spread such misinformation? There will be sequels.
По моему это одна из самых недооценённых музыкально-визуальных тем в игровом рпг жанре.
i am literally crying ((( this game is very emotional
I hope we learn more about what happened to Rook/Alette once he/she died in Banner Saga 3. I thought that, with the gods dead, them somehow going to some place after death needed explanation.
This song will be sung at my funeral.
I had my random music shuffle on when the ending came. I was tearing up but then. Aint no sunshine when she's gone came up and oh boy did it fit well . I cried like the little bitch i am
Replayed this as a father to a baby girl. Couldn’t allow myself this ending, would’ve reduced me to a blubbering mess

Also with overwatch she becomes a beast!
got fuckin wet eyes as she died. would've given rook a hug. a very intense moment for me. cant wait to play the 2nd game.
NONONONO! SHE COULDn'T DIE!

I know the music is Scandinavian, but this song really reminds me of Jewish hymns in synagogue.
i kept Alette alive gotta ship Alette and Egil (they have a romance option)
Good games
I so wish I'd given Allette the arrow...
Oh God, I ended the game with Rook dead D,:
+Andrés Alcaraz Same to me. And then I realise that EVERYONE else choose the daughter to die.
R-Rook has better skills anyways...
Bruh, Allete has skill that could make you cheese the game
:(
