I've worked on these washers for years and this is the first video that I've ever watched that actually explains the HUB replacement process 100% correctly. I can't tell you how many washplate caps I've replaced because the three locking tabs weren't lined up properly when the cap was replaced. Mentioning to pull the tub up evenly with the six screws is a must. Great video sir.

Spent two days and three nights diagnosing, testing and watching other videos. This is the first video that said "do this", "twist that", and "replace this". It took longer to drive the round trip to the parts store than to fix my washer. THANK YOU!!

Thank you. I got a 5D/SD error code. I saw a different video that said it might be a clog with the drain hose but I didn't it could be that so I searched further and found your video and thank god. It took me a long while to remove the agitator. I had to wiggle, pry, use two small screwdrivers to go into the holes and pull up while slowly turning the tub. Then I lucked out when I stuck two screwdrivers opposite from each other and pried up against the middle inner bar and all of a sudden the popped up about 3/4 of an inch which then allowed me to grab the agitator from the bottom and wigglee it off. It took about half an hour to get it off. After that the next hard part was to remove the clog that is on the middle bar. I used a pipe wrench and slowly wiggle it off. After that there was a lot of grit on the grease on the middle bar. Wiped it all off and add silicone grease. Used a 1 1/2" pvc pipe to tap down the clog on the middle bar. Do not tap it all the way down. Use the piece that screws on to bring it down further. After that everything else it a breeze. Good luck to everyone who needs to replace it.

AMAZING video! I can't recall how many videos I watched before this one. You're "hold the drum and try to turn the agitator" diagnosed the issue in seconds. Thank you for not only walking through how to figure out the possible causes of the SD error, but exactly what parts are needed and HOW to fix it. Parts less than $10 and it took me literally 15 minutes. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thanks so much for this. We’ve had our washer for ~7 years and when it broke, I figured we’d be spending a ton on a repair or replacement. Instead I spend $14 on a part from Amazon. Installed in about 30 minutes following your video and it works like a charm!
Even got to clean out the washer a bit more than normal.
    Thanks for posting!

awesome video. Loved the fact you even gave socket size. Only thing I had trouble with was sliding the new piece down the shaft, I had to use a wooden block and rubber mallet to tap tap tap it down to the bottom. Repair worked great..... $14 dollars and a you tube video saved me the cost of a new washer.

This fixed my washer! Like others, I had a hard time getting the inner part on the spindle. I used a really large socket and gently hammered it on. Not sure what the issue was, maybe the splines were dirty, or the washer was a bit smaller. Assuming this part lasts for years, I won't have to worry about getting it off again.

Great video. My tub hub kit did not slide on/off as pictured in the video. I had to hammer lightly and use channel lock pliers in order to get the (last) small piece with the splines off. Then the new one would not go all the way down. I used approx 1" scrap pvc and down the shaft to protect the new piece and placed an old crescent wrench on top and hammered the base of the handle until it went all the way down. It was hillbilly adapt and overcome, but it worked. Hopefully this trick helps someone else. We're back up and running for under $11 and the kit was delivered next day from Amazon.

Great video...instructions were spot on. The only thing I had difficulty with was removing the impeller. After 7 years of use it was stuck on pretty good. I used a "flat" dog leash which I wedged under the impeller edges and slid to the middle--where I "worried" it off by lifting alternately on each side till it popped off. Also, I spent a good 30 minutes cleaning the underside of the impeller prior to reinstalling.

"SD" no more! Spin diagnostic in video confirmed problem and tub hub was easy to order on Amazon. Used 7/16" socket wrench as alternative to 11mm. Removing the impeller took a while until I found the right way to slowly jiggle it off (there was a lot of crud). Scrubbed more crud off the screws with a toothbrush then used hand screwdriver (preference) to install the new parts. Washer back online! Thank You!!

One of 2 videos I saw late last night after running into my Cabrio ending up with soaked clothes, noticing spin cycle wasn't spinning..seemed to be trying but nothing.
The f71 came up after Diagnostic mode...Went through these steps early this morning. That small center piece, the "teeth" are grinded down to nothing! I'm actually shocked this plastic thing lasted as long as it did! (about 6,7 years)
No where local that has this, or an appliance store that will just sell me this part - they just offer repairperson to come out.
Ordered the replacement part online, should be here tomorrow. Should..more like HOPE that is 100% fix. Whatever the case, it clearly had to be replaced. Thanks so much for this video!

This video was oustanding! I fixed my washer previously when using this video. However, my Cabrio just errored again with the same 5d code after a year or two. By using your shortcut of holding the tub while attempting to spin the agitator, it appears the previous repair is still ok. What else do you feel could be creating the error code, 5d?

Excellent video for the repair, i have identical problem.
I have ordered a new hub kit, however once I pull up the smaller white gear, i found the splines of metal shaft that contacted with this small gear, the surface are partly rotted, while the upper splines are pretty good with straight splines around.
Should I be worried the replacement?

    July 7 2023.
Heads up for everyone. My whirlpool cabrio suddenly gave a 5D code. Try searching up on youtube and everything that pops up is Drain pump malfunction. I disassemble the washer and go to drain pump and check/clean if theres object on it, but everything seems good. Then i start the washer and still the problem persist. Then i came across this video and do the spinning trick he did in the 1st minute to check if the hub is loose. I bought the hub in amazon for 14 dollars and do what wxactly says in the video and finally it works.
Tips = Use a big Rachet Wrench to take off the bolt. If you do it on 1st time it is really stiff and you might break something on the process.
    The drill/driver makes life easier.

I have a whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SW0. I replaced my bearings that were shot. My stator is cracked but I reinstalled it. I reused the old shaft because the new shaft's skirt was too low and couldn't get the threads to show in the bottom after tightening the bearings x 3. When I compared it with the old shaft there was a 1/2 difference. So put it all back together and did first load with jeans and colors. All went great, very silent clothes came out all dry. The third load the machine was squeaking during spin and would throw the uL code even after I repositioned the clothes more than four times. What do you think is causing that? Cracked stator? Over tightened bearings?

We're talking about the impeller, right? Anyway, take out the 11mm bolt, then add CLR, wait, flush with water, jiggle gently, repeat. After a time, you'll be able to get your fingers under the impeller from the sides and be able to jiggle a bit less gently. I'm not totally sure the CLR matters.
There's a lot of crud on the spline the impeller is attached to. CLR should dissolve the calcium and rust; flushing gets rid of the crud. I did not have another washing machine as a control, so I can't say definitely that the CLR made any difference.

    • @jacks5692
      @jacks5692 6 лет назад

One more thing ... wear gloves and safety glasses -- CLR (and the crud that comes out) is nasty.

Who has done everything short of taking the whole damn washer apart: I ended up giving mine away and the guy who bought it said there is another nut underneath the washer somewhere. Maybe a certain model of this same washer has this. I watched tons of videos where they just pulled it out. I tried everything. When a crowbar won't even work, physics tells you there is something else keeping it from coming out..lol.

My washer is a "WTW8900BW0" -- it takes the same part and has the same weakness. I was tempted to go crowbar on it, but something I read cautioned to take it easy as the problem is rust and calcification on the spline. CLR and jiggling took about 45 minutes, but it did come free. Ugly nasty stuff underneath.

Thanks for posting this! But..My tub and impeller spin together. I cannot get one to spin without the other. But I have the SD error. Do you have any other reasoning for this? I read somewhere that I may need to reset my Cabrio or recalibrate it..something about the pressure sensor..I have NO clue how to do that. Do you have a video on that? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the video. Everything went great until it came to removing the bottom portion of the hub. It seems to be fused to the shaft. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I have replaced the agitator part 3 years ago, and I have to again now in 2023. I have a whirlpool and I’m trying to figure out how to keep it from stripping the metal out of the agitator. My wife and I discovered we would have been better off with an actual agitator and not the impeller type, we need that more aggressive agitator for our work and day to day clothes.

This was a helpful vid. But I replaced the hub and it wore out again in 8 months. What could cause that??

Did you get the OEM part or one off Amazon? I heard the OEM part is more durable 😊
