- Parents from the TLC reality show "19 Kids and Counting" are coming out swinging after a bombshell documentary claims to expose their family secrets. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are calling the documentary "sad," "derogatory" and "sensationalized," with "ill intentions hurting people we love." In "Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets," Jill Duggar claims her parents cheated the kids out of financial compensation for their work on the popular TV series.
To be honest, having a pedo son is worse than a derogatory documentary...

Being "derogatory" doesn't mean it’s untrue. The parents didn't seem to dispute many documentary accusations.
Except sad she still has so much embedded. It’s understandable, was surrounded by that for so long. She states the info about her brother not suppose to come out, she didn’t want it to come out. And still believes public school brain washes children. Hmm, what does home schooling do when doesn’t really educate or open minds but makes sure indoctrinated in only the twisted beliefs of the evangelical group her family follows
I grew up like that in a Assembly of God church. We lived on a small island in Puget Sound and we were raised to fear God in a more literal sense. I was more afraid of what he would do if I sinned rather than see a loving God who forgave and who would help me through hard times. I’m glad I got out and found out how God Truly is

They lost any form of sympathy the very second they admitted that they covered for their rapist son. I was raised in a Christian household but I was taught that it was okay to have opinions and raise your voice if you had something to say.

Anyone having this many children will always end up taking their eyes off the ball. Which is what happened here. When you’re having more than 5 kids you seriously need to question if you can parent all of them adequately. The matriarch and patriarch were not equipped and as a result their oldest became a predator and I’m sure several of the kids don’t talk to them not just the one or ones in this exposé

Not true…him becoming a predator is not because of the number of siblings he had. Just think most predators come from average size families. Some of you will have 1 or 2 kids, stick them in a class with 25 other kids and 1 teacher and see nothing wrong with it but judge large families.

I believe it's a trap for many people in various religions, not just fundamentalists. Look at all the various religions around the world some would turn a blind eye if their son did what theirs did to their daughters. Even punish the girls for what the son did. Why? Because girls have no value except for baby making. It's sad on so many levels.

Ugh. I grew up with a very religious family and i left church in my late 30s and remember that fear of God getting back at me for leaving. It took me a while to realize that God loves me still and I may not go to church anymore, but I still keep my own relationship with Him❤

Have you read The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning? It helped set me free from man-made religion and into a love relationship with the one who "loves me just as I am, and not as I should be."

The documentary is well done. The same people who made the Lularich series made this one.
It’s disgusting that these parents stole their own children money and didn’t protect their children from a predator. Jill won’t be the last one to come forward and tell her story. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
I think they should be more worried about what their son did than the documentary.

I found it pretty informative. It makes a lot of sense why Jill and Derreck went through what they did. I don’t see anything derogatory. Everything that was published in. There is public knowledge if you dig deeper.

Good for these beautiful women to speak their voice. They're the reason you watch the show. Not surprising their parents took the money. And of course the religion was based off control and fear. They made you believe that hugging your loved one is a sin.

I watched their TV show to learn how supersized families worked, and I learned that they used their own homemade soap! I asked myself WHY it wasn't used to wash out Josh's brain and mouth! I also sensed that something was "off," and after learning that the Duggars were part of Bill Gothard's IBLP cult instead of a REAL church, I realized I was right!

The contract for who got paid for participating in the series likely started when all of the kids were minors and one would hope as each child reached 18 the parents would have had their contract amended to reflect that and allowed the child to make his or her own contract. However, even if the parents didn't do that I would think TLC would have a responsibility to sign a new contract with each child as that child reached his or her majority age.
That’s what I was thinking wouldn’t TLC amend the contract, but maybe she was discouraged from doing that
The TLC contract was with Jim Bob only. It was up to him if he chose to pay his children for appearing in the show. He is a greedy, narcissistic man and chose to keep all of the 18 million dollars that he earned all to himself. Jill and Derick had to feed their family on food stamps.

I'm upset with Inside Edition for focusing on Jill saying that she did not receive payment for the show.
Yes, that was spoken about in this documentary that takes place over several episodes but that's not the point of this documentary that's not the main thing that Jill spoke about or Jinger or anyone else who has been interviewed.
Jill spoke about not being protected from molestation, being manipulated by this cult IBLP, being asked to cover up the molestation by her father and pretend that she wasn't a victim. Jill and her siblings were not given a proper education but instead taught that they must submit until they believed that their voices and bodies were not their own. It was conveyed to them that the molestation was their fault. They were beaten with rods for disobeying. Taught the lie that the love of God, especially when it comes to being a child or woman is submit to a man or go to hell... Need I go on! This hell these children lived in, the pain and trauma they will live with forever... is not about lack of money.
