Your breakup is starting to feel like a distant memory. You’ve been talking to your ex, seeing them more and more, and it feels like you’re connecting all over again. This is your second chance at a first date. So what can you do to avoid screwing it up like last time?
Hi, I’m Jessica Boss, your sherpa on the difficult journey from breakup to back together. I’m a relationship specialist and I’ve got advice you can use right now so you can live your best love life. So let’s get on with it. First off, congratulations. Getting to this point after a breakup is one of the toughest things you can do. But don’t get too cocky! You still have a long way to go before your relationship is out of the woods.
The Date
In many ways this is like any first date. You want to look your best, make them laugh, and make them want to see you again.
With that in mind, pick a setting where you’ll be able to accomplish this. If your ex likes fancy french food, take them out to a nice restaurant. If they’re outdoorsy, go for a hike. It’s not rocket science.
Make sure this date is different than the other dates you two have been on in the past. Don’t repeat your first date. Don’t take them to the thai place you guys used to go every wednesday. Spring for something new and exciting. Go on a carriage ride through the park, go ice skating, or surprise them with a ticket to a sporting event.
Be brand new but familiar
This is how you’ll use this date to win your ex back. Your goal is to be “brand new but familiar” at the same time.
Focus on the good
Don’t dwell on the breakup. You’re past all that now. That talk will come if you decide to give things another shot but for now, don’t dredge up the past. Think of it like any other first date. Would you bring up your last breakup? No, you’re trying to keep things light and fun.
The key is to show them that It’s been different without them around, but not worse. This means that their absence has had an effect but that there’s positive and negative aspects of it.
You’ll look confident and stable and they’ll see you don’t need them to be happy. It takes the pressure off of them to solve all your problems.
Put the focus on them.
We often become very goal oriented in these situations. Am I doing okay? Do they want me back? Am I doing all I can to show them I care? Try to quiet these voices and just have an honest conversation. Chances are you have plenty of catching up to do. Ask them what they’ve been up to since the break up. Ask them questions about themself that you’ve never asked before and focus on really listening to what they have to say.
Ending the date
Don’t ask them if they’ve been seeing anyone. This is a conversation you both want to avoid. You don’t want to come off as jealous or possessive.
Don’t brag. If you spend too much time talking about how well you’ve been doing they’re going to think that you’re trying to impress them.
Don’t push for the next meeting. You want this date to be self-contained. If you try to get them thinking about the next step, they’ll put their guard up, start thinking about the breakup, and stop having fun.
Don’t be a downer. Sure, it’s been tough and you don’t have to hide that but don’t dwell on it. They should see you making positive progress, not falling into a deep well of depression. That’s not sexy.
Don’t worry if it’s awkward. There’s going to be some awkwardness on both sides. It’s a weird situation. But awkwardness can be the key to getting their guard down. If you can push through it and make them laugh, remind them of how happy you can make them then you’ve got them back into the mindset of when you were together.
In my experience, if you can make them laugh, nine times out of ten you can win them back.

I have to say, going from meeting up with your ex, you haven't seen in a while, and ending up having sex, is not even remotely the ideal way of getting a relationship back on track. I've enjoyed your content up until that point... If you truly love someone and are willing to put in the very hard work in getting them back, I would imagine you would want to build a solid foundation this time around, one that shows your serious intentions of a lasting relationship... Another quick hookup is absolutely a sure way of destroying the last chance you have and increasing your own suffering on a whole new level. Honestly, I'm really surprised you threw sex out there so lightly, this goes to no surprise why people can't build solid relationships. You have to build intimacy through one on one solid communication, that's where mutual attraction comes from and that takes time! If sex is all you have, then it's a sure sign you don't have anything else and are on your way to repeating the same mistakes again... If your ultimate goal in seeing your ex is to get another hit of sex, then please spare yourself and the ex the damage... You haven't learned anything yet... facepalm...
I agree with this 100%. I’ve just began dating my ex again. We’re going on our second one next week. There has been no touching, kissing..anything. It’s kinda taking our time to build things up. Trust was a big one so there’s no harm in taking time. We might salvage our marriage but there’s also a possibility that we’ve changed. It’s about getting to know each other again. We were together for 10 years and been separated for 16 months. She went with someone else. It’s time to be patient and not just jump back into bed. Build attraction, have fun and see where it goes.
I don’t really agree, if you did no contact correctly and the anticipation built up and she makes herself available then by all means take the opportunity. If she wants it who are you to turn it down. You as a man are supposed to create a fun romantic opportunity for sex to happen. Their heart is in their pussy. Her giving it up to you means she’s opened back up. Right where you want her. So don’t be cowardly and go for it like a man
This is bad advise. Do NOT jump back in bed with your ex. He may just use you for the sex. Sex doesn't mean you are back together. Make him earn your love & trust again.

My ex bf still hasn't made contact with me and a few weeks ago I saw him in person he looked like he was gonna walk my way but keep walking. I was wondering what should I do in this situation?. I did send him a short text explain all the activities I have been doing then I said in the text if you want catch a movie you can give me a call.
I may have a first date soon after this breakup, this may be a good place to post what happened. Just to say, if you see my comment here, just like or reply and that way I can update my story on what happened. So here goes:
My ex-girlfriend broke up with me in November. There was no contact during Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years Eve. I did receive a simple "Happy New Year" and I mirrored her response a few hours later. Did reach back out and she said hi and wanted to know if I had some thing to talk about - I did say yes about 30 minutes later. She said ok and that she had a few minutes...that turned into over an hour and 30 minutes. After discussions she brought up the idea of going to dinner first and I said we could do that possibly on Sunday. Well on Monday a relative passed and that seemed to slow down things but very understandably so. I was and still am very sincere about condolences. Right now, we text but not a lot and waiting to hear back on if we will be going this Sunday. It will be interesting to see what happens but I will definitely update at some point. For now, any thoughts to this point?

Wow this is great stuff! Wish I would’ve found this sooner. My only question is that if you have the first ‘date’ with your ex and it all goes well how do you follow up in the following days and weeks? Do you contact them in a few days and mention getting together again? Or wait until they contact you again to talk?
If they broke up with you and they initiated the first date and it went well, I wouldn't recommend contacting them at most if you want say something like "I had a great time, I hope you had an amazing time!" And leave it at that. It's still a slow process they still have to earn you back it's hard not being an eager beaver

So I called my ex today we broke up 3 weeks ago but have been in contact since. Haven’t seen her in like 10 days. So I called her we talked for a couple mins and I asked if she wanted for her dinner this weekend and she said sure. She was guarded and asked why I wanted to take her out. I replied to catch up. I’m pretty nervous about the dinner honestly I want to gain some respect back and make her laugh. I just really didn’t get much a vibe for how she felt. It depends on what you did don't pressure her and ask her to be ur gf straight away. Just date get to know each other. No pressure she obiouslvly likes u if she's going for dinner with you..just be ready for the truth god or bad..if she's hurt or angry with u shes going see if u changed. This coach is bad, dont listen to her. She probably takes anything she can get from her exes and knows nothing of a lasting relationship. Never try to "hook up" with them at the end of the date or try to spit game to get there. Its your ex, youve done all that already. You're here because you miss them, you love them and want to make it work and do it differently than the first time. If anything hug, be friendly, dont talk about the past. Its a new leaf, be in the present and grow slow.

Okay my update i acted like i’m shy to make him remember our old days when we started to date at first and I didn’t open any old problems and i made it short we had fun and we talked about our life
