I do love this song. I remember first hearing it when I was younger (I'm 34 now)-- I really liked how smooth this was.-- discovering new Supremes and Diana material i never heard (or watched) was always a special moment for me. Between 12 and 25 years old, so much was revealed to me and it was always a chilling and therapeutic experience. The Supremes were so special.
Hi Empress, Great reaction to the Supremes!!! I'm a recent subscriber and I kindly ask you to please consider doing these other reactions to the Average White Band: (AWB): "Cut The Cake," "Pick-Up The Pieces," "A Love Of Your Own", "School Boy Crush," "Work To Do," "Person To Person," "Cloudy (Live Version: @)," "If I Ever Lose This Heaven," "Queen Of My Soul," "I'm The One," "Walk On By" and "Soul Searching." I don't think they got enough credit for all of the great music they made back in the day and they are still touring today!!! If I am not mistaken, they were actually the 1st Band to ever play "live" on Soul Train because there were several people who didn't believe they could be "white" and have so much soul (funky soul at that!), and to show America & the rest of the world that they were "for real" they insisted they be allowed to play "live" on Soul Train. Hats-Off to AWB!!! These are some funky brothers from Scotland and they came up with their name as part of a joke, but we who are familiar with them all know that they are way above average!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time hearing this song and I like it. I picture this song used as background music in a 60s based movie and the setting is a smokey (no pun intended) bar with slow dancing folks and the main characters doing their dialogue. Diana's vocal is unique and I like that hers is not the traditional belter (I don't find anything wrong with this either). I don't know if you know the British band ABC from the 80s. They were fairly successful and has a song called When Smokey Sings.
This has a little tropical vibe to it, at least it starts out that way. Love the ‘60’s girl group sound. They sound so good! And Smokey, that guys amazing. He has a song from the ‘70’s called, Cruisin’. So smooth and sensual. Have you ever heard it Empress? He’s so talented. BTW....Empress you have a great singing voice! 🙂✌🏻🙂
But u only did 2 songs from the first album , when will you finish it off ? Can't you just skip and do a few from guilty pleasures album just for me plz lol lol Im dying here 😆
Love that song. You know your singing melts me!!!! You’re very talented!! I’m afraid if I ever met you I’m gonna want you to sing all the damn time😂😂. I’ll have to throw you some coints!
We mustn't forget the fourth member of the supremes, Barbara Martin, she was on most of the "meet the supremes" songs, diana didnt want her on the cover because she said she looked fat (because she pregnant) and she said that would ruin the look...
@@EmpressReacts yes this is true! My grandmother gladys catherine horton of the Marvelettes was good friends with Barbara, she was like Juanita in the marvelettes, they never got their fair dues...
@@Chanson60svinyl wow! that's crazy. I've seen some docs about them and it makes it seems like she recorded those few songs on a local label prior to them getting signed on Motown. So if that's the case she signed a contract with Motown and was there the day Flo selected the name Supremes from the list Janie Bradford provided her?
@@EmpressReacts you are thinking of betty probably, she was with them on lupine records in 61 prior to motown (the primettes) barbara replaced betty, and was with them when they picked the name supremes, if you listen to the track "after all" she is the third lead voice part after Mary, also there's a spoken part on "hes seventeen" thats barbara...
@@Chanson60svinyl wow, that's crazy! they completely wrote her off! she's never mentioned with them signing to motown and recording this record. If anything the story is told she wanted to start a family and left the group before they became the no hit Supremes 😂
I LOVE THE MOTOWN Reactions! Keep them coming! And you're right it's so fun to hear Diana Ross come into her voice.
Thank you! Will do!
One of my early Supreme favorites❤️
Listen to Mary Wilson's smokey alto & Florence Ballard's strong soulful soprano!! RAW Beautiful Harmonies!

Now this start to sound more like the Supremes that we have become to. This is still when Diana Ross was still Diane.
