    How did you get 960 for the total volume in the second question?

      240 x 4 to get 960. she just didn't explain it in the video. I too was confused the way by the way she had it set up.

      Great question, Keila! Volume is how much the patient will receive, and the rate is how fast it will be delivered. I hope that helps!

    But how did u get 240 and 1/4 strength =ing to 960ml?

      monica jone you want it to be 1/4 strength, so you would dilute it to make that initial volume (240) 1/4. So multiply 240x4 since it is quartered and you get 960. I hope that helps clarify it for you!

    Why did she multiply the whole number by the denominator 1st and then divide by the numerator in the problems related to strength of a medication? I ask as you typically multiply the whole number by the other numerator (top number) and divide by the denominator (bottom number). I was confused.

      Alison Lindauer, the strength is essentially a fraction of what you need the formula strength to end up as. So you are multiplying it by the fraction. Hope that helps to clear it up for you.     Do you not do dimensional analysis - at my nursing school thats how they taught us so the way you set up your fractions messed me up at first!

    when Imultiply 240 times 3 divided by 4 I got 180 ml instead of 320 ml.

      @user-rx3sw3bc7 you would do 240 X4 divided by 3 to get the 3/4 strength which would be 320mL. I hope that helps clarify it for you!

    how is 240ml x 1/4 =960? 240 x 4 would be 960, but the calculation is confusing

      Great question, Elizabeth Herlihe! Because we are diluting it to 1/4 strength we would basically add enough to make it that diluted. So we would multiply the 240x4 to get the diluted volume of 960. I hope that helps to clarify it for you! Thank you for being here!
