  • In this video Anthony Gangi discusses the difference between expectations and enforcing the rules in a correctional facility. Gangi talks about how we as officers, can work on our communication skills to help inmates set an expectation for their own personal beliefs rather than strictly enforcing the rules over and over again.

Very thoughtful and insightful approach. I think that reaching for the person's better side can sometimes bring out the best in them. Very good advice

Whether it be behind bars or behind a regular desk job - People who are 40+, the know who's in charge and the know the rules. How you communicate with them is a major determining factor on what they will do for you. For the most part the large and in charge does nothing but piss them off and they've been around long enough to know how to make things difficult for you. On the other hand, if you're respectful and treat them as someone who's been around the block - they're likely to work with you as much as their situation allows.
