It's Steve Vai and Ry Cooder research does wonders
Absolutely right. In the movie the sequence is called "Head cutting duel" performed by Steve Vai and Ry Cooder. Just saw the whole movie.
The entire duel was steve vai. Ry Cooder did the soundtrack, not the scene.
@@SlangTang69 Cooder was doing the slide Vai did the classical at the end.
Arlen Roth also helped with Ry Cooders parts
You know Steve Vai played most of the parts? He probably played it on a different guitar than the telecaster. When they showed Ralph Machio's hands only, it was actually Steve.
Nope he mimed to whole thing so it was his hands not steve. It was another guy who played the classical parts. He did a good job mining it looked very convincing
Was Ry Cooder who played the other guitar parts
@@matthewtoomer2181 steve played his own blues parts and Ralph’s classical parts .!
@@melodypedals4827 no he didn't dude look it up dude I did
@@matthewtoomer2181 yes he did . Vai played the pagannini and his blues parts ty colder played all of Ralph machios blues parts . I heard steve Vai say it in an interview and have read it several times . Show me the link where it says someone else plays the electric Paganini Eugene se trick bag
Bro I LOVE THIS VIDEO
I learned a lot
And it was so chill
Arlen Roth was Ralph Macchio's guitar tutor for the film and played many of his pieces. According to Roth on his website, the final duel was arranged from parts played by him, Steve Vai, Ry Cooder and Bill Kanengiser, who did the classical playing throughout the film.
Steve Vai have to bring Yngwie Malmsteen to fight back the last one
I love this. Well done. I have liked and subscribed. I wish I was as good on the guitar as you. Teach me :)
Before you do your reviews, first do your homework...Steve Vai played all the guitar parts in the movie...he did however teach Ralph how to "fake play" in the movie....go look it up....
Bro chill out its his first reaction to it jesus
oh!!!
Uhm... lighten up Frans
Frans du Toit bro learn to not be salty m Kay kid
Arlen Roth worked with Ralph to learn how to fake it.
I suppose another way of reaching that high note at the end of Paganini's fifth is that you could use pinch harmonic on the 6th string on the bottom. It's hard to do when you are finding the right harmonic and it's so thin that it would be hard to hear without the amp or distortion effects. Good break down. (no pun intended)
very informative... cool video👏🏻
Ay I like this dudes personality. Hope he still posting vids
Thank you for this. this is so informative specially for those whove just started
In the Movie Crossroads, the acting part was done by Ralph Macchio. But Ralph's music part was played by Ry Cooder in studio and then dubbed over. Yes, you are right, the part was not played on an Ibanez, it was likely done with a Fender Stratocaster. Ralph didn't know how to play guitar before taking the part in Crossroads.
Ry Cooder only does the slide work
Ralph does play guitar... just not that good.
Yea but stevie vai plays all parts of the battle
@@salinasarmando66 his own parts? You sure he plays Ralphs as well?
Yeah ry cooder or only played the slide guitar parts all other parts were played by Stevie Vai because Steve Vai wrote it
Realistic Review. I too am a fan of As I Lay Dying. Love your shirt
I always knew Ralph Macchio was not really playing the guitar, but I really liked the way you explained it all musically
Fun fact the young actor did want to learn but was told it would be imposible
@ceciliamoreno6341 you can't teach a 25 year old a craft that has been mastered for 10+ years
He is not playing but he did have his fingerings down. Only a few spots caught my eye but it's such a great film I don't even care.
Hi little brother hey good luck with your guitar playing thanks for taking time to show kids the guitar
Great vid. One of the best parts of this was them using Paganini. Not just because that piece was great, but also because during his lifetime, he was an artist who people thought had sold his soul to the devil ;-)
Nice shirt..lol..new sub not bad playing dude..love to collabe when my channels up
Cant believe i already watched this video way back 2020 haha
I see. Because a 22 fret guitar made Vai fail, he went to Ibanez for his signature guitars, as Ibanez do make 30 fret guitars….
That's the movie, man!! Yowww
👍😁
No actually steve vai did all his parts and ralphs last solo bit.ry cooder played the slide bits 👍
Thanks..👍love from india ❤️
Vai didn't play all the guitar parts for the film - Ry Cooder played a lot of it; Vai did play the bit that's based on Paganini's Caprice No. 5 though - that part's called Eugene's Trick Bag btw.

Man, it's Steve Vai and that says it all!
Nice
How it calls that effect to up the note
that intro lol
In 2021 Ralph and Steve Vai did an updated version of the guitar duel and Ralph smoked him. It was held at Hollywood Palladium. It was sad Vai hadn't gotten any better and Ralph has been working with Buckethead and David Gilmour.
Jimi Hendrix. Sat in on that
Mantap bg
2:03 Twisted Metal flashback
Is it not possible to reach those notes with a pinch harmonic?
"Yeah, Ralph faked it really well." - Steve Vai
Steve Vai did such a good job. Im afraid for Lightning Boy just watching.
I watched him play before so I think he's playing there
Really
Ralph really was playing. He did an interview in 1986. He said he learned how to play for the movie.
I heard that he was taught by SRV. Don't know if that is true or not but it makes for a good story.
@@robertaistrope9602 Yes, it sure does. I love SRV's music.
12.55 Steve Vai has 24 frets and ry cooder reaches the note using a slide.
The last harmonic and pitch bend
What if you tune the guitar????
Both parts were done by Steve Via with a Gem guitar of the time and the Tele. Go back to Musician magazine back in the 80's to get the full article.
Ry Cooder play the slide in the movie.
maybe tune is not standard 440?
I’m guessing you guys don’t listen to Duane Allman much. Live at the Filmore and Eat a Peach are must for any guitar player?
Masih keliatan indo nya bro
can you do a tutorial for beginners ☺
Song 6:46 ?
Am i good if i can play this song almost perfect at age 13?
Where are you from?
Bruh this is Hollywood dude who to say they didn't make a 22 24 fret telecaster for the movie
It's very easy to see that the other guy is NOT playing what's on the sound track. Steve Vai IS playing the right thing. You can see that his fingers are going to the right place.
Sorry, i hate the long fingers, jajaja i have very shorts...😂😂😂
The karate kid and the guitar kid
Behind the scenes not true this is a movie your understand!
Who is actually playing Pagannini's Caprice No.5. Steve?
Logika aja haha
Wh fia itu orang indonesia si kok kaya orang indonesia
@@haleluyapujituhanamin9089 emang dia orang indonesia, tapi dia fasih bhs inggris

Hahaha,itukan film tong
Ralph's guitar is played by ry cooder and Steve vai essentially plays himself. The duel is indeed both of them playing except for the very end, the bit titled "Eugene's trick bag" which is Steve vai playing. The karate kid does not play anything, it's clever camera work.
Just let the dammmm video play
0:09 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This generation thinks just because they can't do something doesn't mean someone else can't do it! If I can't play a guitar like that, how can he do it!! If you focus on the guitar so much you will miss the point of the guitar battle!!!
Hey bro. Replace the are with a do in the title to correct it!!
Ohh god, you are late to the show man. I can play this when i was 17 (1992). I am 46 now.
It's just a fukking movie. Everyone getting triggered crying "Steve will kick Ralph's buttt"
Komen kah bro
i have a feelin you are indonesian heheh
It is a film...duh
I wonder if they really die in full metal jacket...
Miyagi Do vs Cobra Vai
What I always thought would have been really cool in this movie was that instead of Steve Vai doing some of the other guitar parts that Ralph did and then acting like he couldn't play them for the movie part of his character's role, I thought they should have had Yngwine Malmsteen play some of those parts. And then there would have been guitar parts that Steve Vai really couldn't play. Because Steve even said in an interview once: "I can't play like Yngwine. Nobody can play like him. What I would do was take the harmony or melody of the song and play it the way that I would do it. It was challenging because there were a lot of little fast runs that he does with his fingers and his tonal center, which is a lot different than mine." So yeah, that would have been awesome in the movie to have had Yngwine Malmsteen do some guitar stuff. Yngwine is a classically trained guitar player who switched to playing heavy metal music. He said that he grew up with his entire family all being classically trained musicians and vocalists. He himself got his first guitar at age 5 and started guitar training seriously at age 7.
steve vai play all part
Too Funny did he really break down a movie to show what's fake playing?? Next week he'll break down why the people of Metropolis can't recognize Superman in glasses...
Actors don't need to Play good guitar , but maybe there are some actors who know how to Play right ......
Migayi where are you!!!??? 😆
CARLOS ALONZO MONTEJO That is where the Black man comes in for Mr Migayi's role.
He use all 4 four finger that y .
teu ngarti,tapi keren lah
No the karate I'd didn't play it he's a actor, did a great job all around bringing the movie to life
He really played just like will smith really slapped Chris rock
orang indo ya bang
Orang indo bro?
when my voice is tired i down key! You must be a bit tired
Whistle blower 🤣
Ralph didn't play a single chord. Steve Vai and Arlen Roth. Yes , Machio should have done a better job, but at that time in movies people didn't pay too much attention to details. Now, everyone is a critic.
you must see
alip ba ta and reaction that
No!!
What happen here.. its just a fucking film
Fake or real it doesnt matter no need your bad reaction or something.. you just need to apreciate the masterpiece of this film
everyone knows he was playing air guitar. Its impressive. Better than Michael J Fox's air guitar (who is supposed to actually know how to play.)
Well, he did a better job at faking in than Lindsay fking Lohan
Boy u know finger picking
