Really cool content guys! I used to play a lot of Atraxa but ran into all of these problems you are mentioning. Probably because the choice of walkers was a bit random. Had a lot of boardwipes to help me protect my friends though. A bit of constructive feedback for mister on the left. Slowing down and articulating would make it a lot easier to hear the words. Right now it gets a bit sloppy at times.
My nitpicking nerds! I think one card that can be employed in superfriends is spark double. The opportunity of doubling the best pw on your field can be gold! Cheers!
I love kykar, winds fury as a superfriends build. He makes spirit tokens that fly and can protect your planeswalkers. It's very good. Colors aren't ideal because no green or black, but upside is it's a pretty combo heavy deck
Maybe I missed it but Oath of Nissa? when playing with fetch lands and having perfect fixing it's not necessary but in lower power metas, and wanting to play multi-color super friends, it could be useful for a one mana investment. It also digs for them (not very deep) but you still can grab a creature or land if you whiff.
So I had a yarok the desecrated deck that I turned into super friends deck because of deep glow skate. Double then double again. Feels real good when you can pull it off with planeswalker s on board
Jace the Mind Sculptor is good in a 2-color deck where your options are limited. I play him in a Will and Rowan deck. I have a ton of fetch lands, so brainstorming is great, and he has such a pedigree that my opponents value him too highly. They will ignore much better planeswalkers to attack jtms... He's given me good value.
Grave Titan, Planeswalking Beater 4BB +1: Until your next turn, you can't present any threats. -3: Create two tapped 2/2 black Zombie creature tokens three turns from now. -9: Grave Titan deals 6 damage to target opponent. Starting Loyalty: 3
@@NitpickingNerds generally use it in combination with other proliferation stuff so getting two or three counters additional counters per turn. Draws less hate than doubling season though obviously playing that too.
He's not as good in edh as in 1v1, but I think you're underestimating the power of the mind sculptor. Not super good in superfriends, but a great filter engine in edh in general, especially on a higher power level (including cedh, oh boi)
I think the best super friends commander is Ramos, Dragon Engine. He allows me to cast a lot of spells on one turn with its ability. Also works extremely well with your inevitable proliferation and counter doublers.
I have not watched the whole video, so I'm not sure if it was talked about. A playstyle I found to work for superfriends was board wipe tribal. Lots of walkers, lots of board wipes. I used the old iroas as the commander bee is indestructible and could beef up a Giddeon. Not sure how it would do in a more high power pod, but the games I played with it weren't much of a game.
I agree with your traps besides narset transcendent. While the +1 isn't the best, using it and putting her at 7 is pretty good protection. Any game I have doubling season'd + ult her, I have won since its pretty much preventing them from doing anything else to me if I wipe their creatures.
I once opened a pack of War of the spark with Lilliana, Dreadhorde General and a foil of that set's Nissa. Unfortunately it was a draft, so I only got to keep the Lilliana. In the second round, the guy that got the Nissa used it to defeat me...
I think Atraxa is easily the best commander for superfriends. The amount of times you care about missing out on access to red is so low that its easily replaced by the passive proliferate and the fact its probably the best defensive creature for superfriends. Give it first strike and possibly trample and theres like 2 creatures that will be able to attack into it.
I run all the planeswalkers (even the bad ones to balance the deck for my playgroup) in my mono blue baby jace commander deck (i. e. Karn, Jace, Ugin, Jace, etc...) It ramps and goes off when omniscience hits the table :D
I have a Kenrith the return King as Commander for my Super Friends with a sub theme of Niambi esteemed speaker and recursion tactics but still messing around ...
I find it most difficult determining at what point do I stop caring about efficiency in favor of synergy and vice/versa. Cutting cards is usually easy, but I typically see cards as pretty much equally good in either category. I guess flexibility is usually the tie-breaker in this instance.
Kinda' surprised you didn't include Aminatou in the "best commanders for superfriends" section. Sure, there's other ways to take her, but the fact that she can blink planeswalkers is amazing, and she benefits from all your planeswalker synergy herself. Also, I built my Ur-Dragon deck with a superfriends sub-theme, and it's surprisingly good. The idea is to ultimate Sarkhan Dragonsoul or Sarkhan Unbroken, but I've also found that the Ur-Dragon's cost reduction makes it pretty easy to put down big blockers to protect your planeswalkers. The main problem is that there isn't much room for instant speed interaction, which can hurt, but all the removal you have stapled to planeswalkers and dragons still make it playable.
Try making a mono red Superfriends deck, you would have most of the Chandra cards that give mana on their loyalty abilities and a lot of mana rocks/mana in general that way you are genning a lot of mana per turn and planswalkers per turn and since it is red you are also just burning them out so you are actually winning through value and denying opponents of any resources as there are good red Stax cards to go in a mono red Superfriends deck Basically it should be called Mono Red Nofriends
I have just converted Atraxa to a toolbox reanimator deck for Planeswalkers. It isn't so much about keeping them alive, it is about a final payout with something like Eerie Ultimatum. Had a lot of games where I am the Archenemy simply because of Atraxa and the deck is spammy enough that you can just let the walkers die and shield you life total for a big payout that pretty much just ends the game.
I play a GAAIV superfriends... some cards just are playable in this deck. The reduction cost, unsummon abilities and a lot of mass removal makes this deck fun. I almost always can ultimate mind sculptor. hahahaha Jace unravaler of secrets is a freaking machine in this deck... a big threat. Elspeth is one of the best cards here. The tokens are always saving the planeswalkers.
I think all counters on planeswalkers should be doubled in EDH. That it means it comes down with double loyalty, +'s, -'s, and ult's for double the cost. I'm sure this would cause certain issues, but I think making walkers playable would be good for EDH's health, because it would also make creatures much more valuable.
I run a Kethis Superfriends, I like PIr because of the extra one but also when you do plus it adds an additional. You reach ultimates a lot faster. I know I'm probably the only one asking this, but would you guys ever consider doing an updated battle box video with an updated list? I know you guys mostly do commander now, but I think battle box was pretty cool for a casual 1v1 format.

One of my most evil (albeit 60 card) superfriends deck was Planeswalkers plus Slivers in a supporting role... But to be fair, it got quite some wins just on the Slivers. (-:
I feel you about Golos. It's upsetting because when I saw him I was like "Oh cool! An artifact and lands commander that's five-color but isn't tribal, that sounds fun!" but then it just turns out everyone does the same thing with Golos, and it plays out the same way each time... Like he's so flexible that it goes in reverse and just always leads towards the same high-value plays that all feel kind of soulless since there's not much cool flavor going on (it's not like when you have a cool legendary creature with a deck full of voltron equips like the deck is somehow just every piece of gear your commander ever owned and all the friends he made along the way or something) and it is totally predictable.
Guys....give my thumb a break geez! Lol, great vid though. I too, have an Atraxa super friends deck. But it’s not as cut and dry as your typical super friends and it’s a lot of fun. For a while I wanted to build an izzet poaneswalker deck and then elesha came out and I’ve been working on making a Jeskai friends deck with her and it’s basically almost all non creature spells. Anyway, sweet video as always and didn’t disagree with a word!
Jace TMS is amazing as a recursive brainstorm. In Yuriko and Kefnet I’ve seen and had Jace take over the game. And in a control deck he shines as well.
I love superfriends, play them out, bring them all back, then play death cloud, decree of annihilation.... Anything that hits lands and creatures, good game.
rowan and will kenrith are a good commanders, will lets you lower the cost of walkers, rowan is just exponential value with the ulti, 4 emblems is not rare, and theyre always in the command zone.
I run a Golos superfriends (just to have access to all colors), can search for lands I need (karn's bastion for proliferate, field of the dead for zombies protecting my planeswalkers, gaea's craddle/Urborg/cabas coffer for more mana and so on) and also makes oath of teferi a ramp card by blinking my Golos for more lands. I run Constant mists in it, really like that card because its a fog I can get back to my hand by sacc a land. Also Golos synergies really good with Jace, the mind sculptor since I can use jace 0 ability and put 2 expensive cards on top, which golos can activate his ability to cast for free. Really looking forward to the new kaya who's ultimate is that you can cast a legendary spell from hand, graveyard or exile for free. Meaning the legendary spells from Dominaria can be cast every turn (Karn's Temporal sundering to have infinity turns / Urza's ruinous blast to wipe all non-legendary non-land permanents / Yawgmoth's vile offering to destroy a creature/planeswalker and also get a creature/planeswalker back from a graveyard).
@@nickfitzpatrick5878 I don’t have a deck list sadly because I’m old school and write all of mine down in a notebook lol. But I could make one on tapped out and tag you in this thread when I finish it?
Thanks for doing this great video, I ran an atraxa pw deck and I definitelly will do some cuts. What do you think about the next pw that are not in your video? Teferi, Temporal Archmage Vraska the Unseen Vraska, Relic Seeker Venser, the Sojourner Ashiok, Nightmare Muse Elspeth, Knight-Errant Also these cards Contagion Engine, Too expensive? Rings of Brighthearth, I think this is worth to include in PW decks.
No you're not being a nitpicking nerd, I hate Golos too xD it can find ANY land. And is so generically poweful that it can be literally any deck. Golos Goodstuff, Golos Dragons, Superfriends, Enchantments (Finds Serra's Sanctum), like why?? It unfortunately sits at the helm of my superfriends deck. I love the red cards you get to much to switch to Atraxa. I did use Sisay for a minute, but Golos can find Field of the Dead, then Vesuva, and then you're protecting your planeswalkers quite easily with Fetchlands. He plays very well with Scroll Rack as well. A card you may of overlooked is Dueling Grounds. Printed waaaay back it is really great at slowing down combat and only costs 3 mana! (:
Totally solid option, we didn't want to go TOO deep when listing commanders as it doesn't really matter who your commander is, especially if you pick the commander beforehand and decide to build superfriends around it :)
I am seeking planeswalker video desperately and this is uploaded. I watched it twice. It is funny that the elderspell was suggested from one of your superfriend deck profile months ago, And now it becomes a trap, how about settle the score?
@@NitpickingNerds thanks, great video overall. I do have a question, since I am following 10 card draw spell rule, what planeswalker can substitute a draw spell? Or do I have to play 10 other draw spell?
Clicks on video to build super friends. First 3min. “Planewalkers are the worst card type in the format…” Me: why da faq am I going to watch the next 43min then??
I strongly disagree with your assessments of several of these cards. I was glad to see more super friends content, but the moment you said that Elspeth, Sun's Champion was a "trap" card, I just tuned out. She's rightfully regarded as one of the best EDH planeswalkers out there because she can do so many things; her ult is irrelevant when you can make 3 blockers on a plus or wipe the board on a minus.
They said that Liliana Dreadhorde General is one of the best planeswalker when with SIX she does NOTHING. The only thing she does is with her ultimate, which she will never be able to activate 'cause she will die before. With SIX mana, she does one only blocker. With the -4, every PLAYER, INCLUDED YOU, has to sacrifice two creatures OF THEIR CHOICE. So if the opponent has for example their commander and a buch of mana creatures, the -4 does nothing. Elspeth does THREE FUCKING BLOCKERS. She can manage with the opponent's creatures by her own, her -3 can destroy every big creature on the board including commanders, and with her emblem three of her soldiers are 9 flying damage, which at that time, for fetching and stuff, is half the life, but you don't even need to do it. They didn't even mentioned Will Kenrith, which is INSANELY POWERFUL. OH MY GOD how many filthy things I did and I do with this guy. He has an unique ability to make planeswalkers cost less. He can make two creatures useless, even commanders, managing the board by his own. He can make you draw two and make you pay two less mana ALL instants, sorceries and planeswalker you will cast FOR THE REST OF THE TURN. You can fucking cast Yawgmoth Will for ONLY ONE MANA, and beginning to cast multiple cards from your graveyard. And his ultimate can make every instant ir sorcery you cast copied, but the other abilities are so powerful that you don't even need to waste Will's turn to make it. But even for other planeswalkers: Tamiyo Field Researcher does NOTHING, Nicol Bolas Dragon-God for that heavy mana colored required does nothing impacting and the ultimate risks to be useless, Teferi Hero of Dominaria is useless unless you have a counter deck (and a superfriends deck is NOT), Ajani Steadfast is useless in a deck full of Wraths and with almost none creature, Tamiyo Collector of Tales does NOTHING since you have to guess a single card name IN A FUCKING 100 DIFFERENT CARDS DECK, instead Tamiyo the Moon Sage can defend herself and her ultimate is a win condition since you can cast infinitely extra turn cards, removals and whatever you want. Narset Transcendent is a only 4 mana 6 loyalty pw that can add to your hand everything in your deck that's not a land card, and with her -2 you can re-cast freerly extra turn cards, wraths, removal, demonic tutor and other stuff. Jace the Mind Sculptor is a only 4 mana pw that can give you a brainstorm each turn and can help you filtering the mana you need from lands and make you put back in your deck too high mana cost cards, AND NO ONE CARES A FUCK ABOUT HIS ULTIMATE. These two guys are really two great incompetent. They should talk about Cooking Mama instead.
Correct number of planeswalkers in my playgroup? None, very hostile to planeswalkers. I still try, LOL. I like playing Vraska Relic Seeker or Vraska Golgari Queen :P

Anyway, sweet video as always and didn’t disagree with a word!
That’s cuz we know everything lol 😂
I'm going to attempt Aminatou super friends. Let's see what happens!
I play Yidris superfriends. I find that playing only one walker a turn is awful so I chose yidris so my turns are more efficient
When you said "contingency plan" did to mean to say "contentious plan?" Contingency plan doesn't have anything to do with proliferating
Planeswalkers + land destruction, yep GG
@@NitpickingNerds shhhhh lifelink shhhh
rowan and will kenrith are a good commanders, will lets you lower the cost of walkers, rowan is just exponential value with the ulti, 4 emblems is not rare, and theyre always in the command zone.
I built a Nev, urborg tyrant superfriends deck.... nothing like a non-walker boardwipe in the command zone to keep your walker buds safe
Want to build this because I pulled the etched foil. You have a deck list?
@@nickfitzpatrick5878 I don’t have a deck list sadly because I’m old school and write all of mine down in a notebook lol. But I could make one on tapped out and tag you in this thread when I finish it?
Thanks for doing this great video, I ran an atraxa pw deck and I definitelly will do some cuts. What do you think about the next pw that are not in your video?
Teferi, Temporal Archmage
Vraska the Unseen
Vraska, Relic Seeker
Venser, the Sojourner
Ashiok, Nightmare Muse
Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Also these cards
Contagion Engine, Too expensive?
Rings of Brighthearth, I think this is worth to include in PW decks.
Hahaha I love jace mind sculptor he is all my blue builds. Like the guide though I'll keep in mind
Please make a super friend deck using Prismatic bridge!
SUPER NITPICKING FRIENDS
That should have been the title!
Guys you should do a New Version of this video. Updated to get New spicy cards like ajani sleeper agent, Laezel (second pir) and brokers ascendancy
Isn't Hero's Downfall just a better Murder though?
Lol, you guys are so nerdy. I love it.
Only a little nerdy 😂
So what do you think about esika as commander?
My planeswalker deck is called Esika and Whatever The Studio Could Afford. It runs 46 planeswalkers 🤣
No Aminatou as commander? I’m putting together this deck now
Totally solid option, we didn't want to go TOO deep when listing commanders as it doesn't really matter who your commander is, especially if you pick the commander beforehand and decide to build superfriends around it :)
I know its slightly lower power I like inexorable tide, 5 mana cast a spell and proliferate
If you've got the potential to chain 3+ spells in a turn reliably, it seems like a good include. Probably great if it's one of your only 5+ drops
Ya'll do top 10 jank/build around cards. That'd be interesting
That could be interesting, I added that idea to our notes section in my phone!
@@NitpickingNerds Awesome :D Ya'll are going to blow up this year. I know it
Beezy is the Chandler Bing of Nitpicking Nerds
I am seeking planeswalker video desperately and this is uploaded. I watched it twice. It is funny that the elderspell was suggested from one of your superfriend deck profile months ago, And now it becomes a trap, how about settle the score?
Our opinions on cards constantly change as we play more. Settle is is just not a strong enough removal spell to be worth it
@@NitpickingNerds thanks, great video overall. I do have a question, since I am following 10 card draw spell rule, what planeswalker can substitute a draw spell? Or do I have to play 10 other draw spell?
I play Planeswalkers mostly as a shield. Most people will focus on them and leave my life alone for a while lol
Crazy they didn't mention Prismatic Bridge as a commander for superfriends
Prismatic Bridge didn't exist yet lol
Why isn't Brawl more popular? I watch all the commander youtube channels but really just play Brawl :p
Golos is an amazing superfriends commander.
Oops 😬
Clicks on video to build super friends. First 3min. “Planewalkers are the worst card type in the format…”
Me: why da faq am I going to watch the next 43min then??
Flicker the skate?
In the case of Teferi Temporal Pilgrim I will happily pay 5 mana to draw a card lol
They forgot Triumphant Reckoning Return all artifact, enchantment, and planeswalker cards from your graveyard to the battlefield.
My friend is a salty guy that doesn’t like having any of those planewalkers played (against him.) Especially Ashiok.. He is a dirty necromancer haha
Well maybe he needs friends, super friends
Bro my modified Planeswalker party has 20 planswalkers in it
