Pretty much the best aussy diesel performance upgrade vids on RUclips!! ❤
So all I need in order to install a d40 turbo onto my D22 yd25tt is the manifold, turbo, dump pipe & intercooler piping? Thanks man your vid’s shed a lot of light on the Nav scene. Trying to get some decent power but it seems mods for these are pretty scarce beside small package upgrades.
That's what i wanted to see! To get that 200 to the wheels, do i need to worry about my automatic transmission and gearbox?
havent realy heard of anyone break them should be fine. High flow cold air intake is also recommended. That alone makes 6hp difference without adding extra fuel and helps the turbo not overspeed. Stock intercooler is good but if you do upgrade make sure you get one that doesn't cause anymore pressure drop through the core then the stock cooler.
Can we please have the intercooler upgrade video!
Nice video, I think if you had 4x4 engaged or auto if avaliable, it will not spin and maybe time will be even better
Whens the next episode coming out mate. I love these navara videos. And know your doing a d40 im extra keen so i can learn what to do to mine
Navara d40 user from borneo island. Looking forward for the next video.
I have a turbo on its way out.
I just found this video.
Can you sell this setup as a kit? And if so what sort of money are we talking?
We can supply the Turbo it costs around $2600 with standard bearings or extra if you want the upgraded thrust bearing. Exhuast came from ppd and cost around $700. Depends on your tuner wether they will be able to fit a piggy back ecu or will just do a remap
Good stuff mate awesome video as always
Hi, if i wanna do a yd25 engine swap, which engine is the easiest to replace it with
I kindly seek your advice; I have a 2x4 automatic Navara D40 2007 VSK model 2.5 YD25 diesel ,engine with 40 thousand size piston (maximum boring size ) and with cancelled EGR system, manifold custom made off course but still EGR vacuum solenoid still installed, the engine has mechanical turbo and mechanical throttle and the vehicle do drive ok but i need to tune it up a bit to enjoy its max power so i need advise on;
1. What type and model of turbo can i upgrade to in order to maximize it power.
2. I found EGR vacuum solenoid still installed but EGR already cancelled, does it still serve purpose ?
3. How should the vacuum pipes from vacuum pump to turbo booster solenoid ,turbo , EGR vacuum solenoid and to mechanical throttle body actuator be if EGR has been cancelled?
I will greatly appreciate to have drawings for the vacuum system if you can please 🙏
Hi bro, what advice can you give me when it comes to tightening the crankshaft of a yd25, and do I have to measure clearances, if so what should it be. Sorry for always troubling you😅
Question?. For when you upgrade the turbo for D40 is it just “plug and play” for the new turbo or do you have to change oil feed and return line to the new turbo or can you keep the lines as is, and does the new turbo need a whole new exhaust systems or can I just keep it stock exhaust. Cheers. Good video too 👍
@@clayhobson7559 it's plug and play. All the OEM parts for straight onto it
Hey man, do all D40's with the YD have +30 injectors from factory? I have a 2013 Spanish built.
Love the content too. Keen to see what happens to this D40
Not sure about the 140kw models i'd assume they would with just a different spray angle to suit the different piston bowl designs in the 140kw engines. They dont seem to blow as much smoke as the early models but that could also just be because they have a different turbo and tune
@yd2532 ahh yep fair call man. Mines the 140kw variant. I haven't seen too many of them sooting along either
Looks like a great upgrade, what are the specifications and where can you buy?
We had them built by gcg turbos. You can buy from them or we can supply them
would like to know costs? as i have a 2010 d40 4x4 6speed and needs more low end power. loved the 417hp yd25 build
Just doing a tune if you haven’t already makes a big difference
I had 2010 stx 6spd and first thing I did was get the plazmaman hard pipes, made a good amount of difference for the price. It was well worth the money.
Ever seen or had any chassis issues with these D40's? Looking into getting one but pretty concerned about the chassis and there reputation so I was just curious about any encounters with these type of issues you may have had?
Not really in Australia only over seas where they put salt on the roads
@@yd2532 No worries then. Thank you for the quick reply 👍
Here in the uk the trucks rot pretty badly due to salt being used in winter if your from the uk make sure to check the chassis and if its good seal the chassis straight away and reinforce it as well
hi, I have an NP300, I want an increase, will replacing a warm impeller be enough?
What garret turbo are you running?
Hi, I have a 2002 d22 133hp, non commonrail I believe the temperatures here range between 5-15c in the winter and 20-35c in the summer what oil would you recommend? I've taken up the car recently and my father's been using some 10w40 im unsure if it's fully synthetic.
No common rail?
Go to your local chip shop and pinch their used oil from out the back
Just remember to strain out the crusties
Once again, great vid mate. Really enjoyed it.
I'm following this series closely because it's exactly where I'm at with my D40.
I'm curious about why you chose the piggy back boost controller (Ultra boost module) over a regular remap of the ECU?
Did you also remap fuel and boost tables in the ECU ?...or does the ultra boost hold all the modified maps & tables?
I'm currently running a Tillix valve for manual boost control. It's old school but it works really well and the boost curve is smooth & consistent.
I'm hoping I can keep the Tillix and get the ECU reflashed to suit. Then I can increase above 21psi without hitting the fuel cut/limp mode.
I like it because it removes the shitty BCS from the system, which increases reliability IMO.
But I need to talk to local diesel tuner - he may prefer to reconnect the BCS for dyno tuning...?
with the piggy back can run more than 22psi on the stock map sensor. the ultra boost holds all the modified maps and is a lot easier to make changes to then a remap.
Just picked up a cheap 2008 spain built d40 at the auctions, really low kms on it. I'm looking at a new exhaust and snorkel. Reckon im going tk do the turbo as well now. Did you upgrade the intercooler?
we did but for some reason didn't see any gains even tho it did reduce intake air temps and seems to not have any pressure drop through the core
Awesome work!
I have the R51 with the 140kW YD25. I already have a 3 inch Stainless exhaust fitted.
You reckon I could get those sorts of figures out of my engine with the upgraded turbo and maybe an intercooler upgrade?
Which intercooler do you recommend?
Thanks for the inspiring video!
Yes the 140kw models can also make good power. If you buy a decent intercooler and get custom piping made it would be better then the kits
Would a GFB VNT controller be a good work around for boost control when installing a gt2056v on a D22?
yes or even the hpd one that we used
Always run a pipe off the turbo and nothing else. You'll notice the difference. Cats and or DPF are always blocked on high kilometerage diesels.
Going to a three inch will give you more gains than removing the cat
Euro4 doesn't require dpf
epic !
In Chile, on the D40 Yd25 (175hp), the turbo pressure sensor only reads up to 21psi. How can I solve that?
Piggy back ecu I think some people can also fix it with a remap otherwise they use a valve to trick the sensor
Will you be selling these turbos?any idea on cost? Thanks
yes we can get them from gcg. They cost around $2500 with standard bearings and extra for if you need the upgraded thrust bearing. Im gonna see if we can get an upgraded turbine wheel next so mabey just wait till we see how that goes first.
رائع ❤
Great video man! What’s the mileage on the Ute?

Love your videos!! ❤
Your engineering is at another level. Well done and good going.👌
sweet! 😎🔥
Nice mate! I'm trying to figure out what parts r best to get from d40Hot side parts to put onto my d22
Just need the manifold, turbo and oil/water lines. Gotta make the turbo intake, downpipe and pipe to the intercooler
@@yd2532 thanks yeah looking at either start after tax time or end of the year.

yes
Ok i need that kit 😁

Wow such a gain!
Those YD25 are good durable engines compared to the TD27? Heard alot of people saying the YD25 is headache...,.
Nothing beats the TD27 or QD32 for durability
@@copyrightdraner currently have a TD27 turbo from an E24 bus. QD32 5 speed auto. In a 1999 D22 Frontier. All Japanese.
It hauls. Tires in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, hit 180kph with ease, but due to high center of gravity, and crosswinds, couldn't see where top end would've been.
Right now 10L gives me around 150kms. Average speed is around 80. Mostly highway runs.
But always wondered about that YD25 and what it can do. Alot of D40 Navaras was sold here in Trinidad and Tobago. And they still flood the streets.
only the 140kw yd is good, the rest are junk.
@@longy6612how do you know which YD25 are the 140kw? I thought there all the same
@@abzhama3402 Only facelift model Spanish built d40s have the 140kw motor.
Intercooler video soon?
Its got a weird noise since ive put the intercooler on. Im waiting for a boost leak tool to arrive so i can test it for leaks. Factory intercooler fits a lot better then the aftermarket one.
@@yd2532 i wonder if original cutting intercooler made from all aluminium will make it running fine?
@@Bipolar_Bear7774 ye you can buy coolers that are OEM design that are all aluminium. They would fit alot better and customers have told me they were better then stock
I checked out the snail prices, fark me. Bloody expensive huffers. As for tuning, the last run at 30PSI, clearly the turbo was well out of its curve with drive pressures over 50PSI and the smoke, yeah, leave the soot for the tossers and flog-bags, roll that shit in front of me and you would get a spray you would not want.
Agreed turbine is the limit for this setup. We are currently seeing options for a high-flow turbine wheel. For now, our plan is to optimize the intake with a cold air high flow intake as the stock one has 2psi pressure drop, an upgraded intercooler, and an upgraded exhaust manifold.
It’s all about showing the progress, with evidence to support the outcome!
@@Cotto982 I know but still, that level of smoking was just crap. Waiting to see what comes of it.
@@yd2532 Yeah, I did call the lads regarding a snail for my ZD30 thats still going strong. Shame you don't have such passion for the mighty ZD30...
Common element, they all need to breath.
@@bentheguru4986 alot of the smoke down low went away with the Manual boost controller. Once we get a good intercooler, good intake, better flowing exhuast manifold it should be around 18:1 with the same amount of fuel
Chur I'm running JRP gauges on my D40

Hi how should I break in a rebuilt yd25 engine
Put the engine under load like going up hills and vary the rpm. Don’t baby it and drive on the hwy at the same rpm and no load for long periods
@@yd2532 is it normal to have some white smoke, and what are the symptoms of a bad ckp sensor, the car is not REVVING past 3000rpm, maybe I mismatched the wires of the sensor
@@ALFAMUSIC2 not sure what sensor you are talking about. White fuel can be caused by fuel not atomizing or low compression
@@yd2532 crankshaft sensor, I have a p0335
@@ALFAMUSIC2 have a look on my website on the ossilicope page it shows what wires go where for the crank and cam sensor
Really hurting that vnt with choke flow.
Ye I wanna push this turbo hard then when I get a bigger turbine wheel get the turbo builder to check it for wear so I can see what's the safe limit of it is
@@yd2532 it doesn’t really work like that. Once the turbine wheel is choked, it won’t flow any more, no matter how much more pressure you have. The only wear will be on the compressor side due to shock erosion. I suspect the clipping of the turbine wheel (if it is) will have a lot to do with your high back pressure.
@@ManagerVitaly ye the turbine is the limit of the setup. Having a high flow intake helps it a bit . The stock airbox has 2psi pressure drop so to compensate the turbo has to spin faster to reach target boost pressure which closes the vanes more and adds to the back pressure
That's it... boost doesn't mean anything, only air density.
I noticed that too, the back pressure was good at around 20psi, at 30psi though it was in the 50's high in the rpm range. Surely there's a larger frame vnt that can be mated up and produce the 300hp without being too laggy
