I think you are such an awesome man that you would come home after a major ride and cook a healthy meal for your family! What a wonderful husband and father! I'm an older woman, and I watch your videos to inspire myself. I have a double hip replacement but I try to ride 100+ miles a week. Thanks for being a biking muse!
just want to thank you.....watching your videos initially was to get into cycling to get fitter as i found it hard to breathe..always out of breath on small tasks...inspiration while im on a spin bike instead of looking at a wall....but over time i found myself eating cleaner, less meat...now...im vegetarian...mooving my way towards vegan all because of you...thanks mate..feels like a new body
That was BEAUTIFUL!!! It's been ages since I've been to Yosemite.....ah..miss it so much. Thanks for sharing the awesome view of our nation's premier National Park.
You are so right about that corner where you first see Half Dome. One of the most awe inspiring views I have ever seen. Maybe number one. Great vid. Brought back a lot of memories, thanks.
I recognize the Wahoo alert for when you’re off your route. Whenever I get that I can’t help but yell at my computer, “I know, shut up!” The people of LA get confused.
Dude, I had to Hike A Bike back up a 1/2 mile of rutted out Jeep trail because I ignored it once ... granted, I was in the middle of nowhere on a mountain hiker's trail that had this hidden split, but still, I'm at least glancing at the GPS page when it starts doing that now. No fun when you are 75 miles into a 100+ mile day and you waste 20 minutes backtracking uphill in the mud.
this also happens in Yellowstone each year after the snow gets off the road and before they open for cars. Talk about feeling small in the world when you ride through the vast open space
I wish you could do a video for them beginners (me) . Stuff like how to get good at clipping in and not dying half stock. And random beginner tips on things people don't teach you. Or how to start off biking to get a baseline down. Fix the helmet so it doesn't move around so much in the drops. Would love anything like that. Your videos are very entertaining and I can't stop watching. Thanks -joe
Would love to do this ride one year! You need to put together some kind of meetup or notice for this ride or even an event. I'd def be down for the VC Gran Fondo bruh! 🤙🏽
Dude, nice vid! Stayed on the Wawona campingground with a rented camper 2 years ago and envied every cyclist I saw on the road at the time. This video makes me want to come back (with my bike) 100% more! Keep up the good work :)
It'll tap into the stored glycogens and fat, too. Being able to tap into fat efficiently can be trained, and doing long rides while fasted can be a way to achive that. It'll tap into muscles, too, likely undermining your power in the long run. VC was obviously being easy on the pedals, too.
No actually it won't if you're properly fat adapted and truly fasted. I'm starting to actually prefer riding fasted than fed. I did a ride on Sunday this week fully fed and felt like ass all ride. Previous long ride was fasted and had no ill effects. I'm not doing this out to 100 miles yet but I would. Once you get a feeling for it you can really tell the difference. When I ran out of stored glycogen on Sunday I could feel my energy level and output level drop off a ton. Fasted your burning fat efficiently and can really go long...lord knows I've got energy stores for days.
Your body will tap into muscles whenever it taps into fat. Else you'll need to sell your secrets and trust me, bodybuilders all over the world will line up to give you money. If you are using fat for fuel, you are simultaneously using muscles. Now, you're saying you can efficiently use fat if you start your ride fasted. So I believe you mean 2 things: you're using a higher proportion of fat relative to muscles, and you're able to convert fat to energy at a higher rate than if you did not start fasted. Fair enough, those claims require some solid science but I'm ok with them. I'd even tend to agree with them, based on my personal opinion and experience, but this is irrelevant. One last thing though, you cannot sustain your highest level output without your fastest fuel, i.e. glycogen. I could ride fasted for 10 hours at 150 watts. I could not ride fasted for 3 hours at 250 watts. Your mileage may vary but you can always sustain a higher output on a relatively short effort (until your glycogen reserves are depleted) if you have stored glycogen.
This is why I really would love to see the science on IF as it pertains to endurance sports. For body builders the science is there and IF is a fantastic way to burn fat and NOT lose muscle. Look up the main IF guys for the science on that. But for those of us who are "endurance athletes" what is the impact? THIS I have not seen discussed by anyone at any length. And I mean with details, links to scientific studies etc. Tyler's case is anecdotal but it is a valid data point. Tyler has been riding fasted for some time now (I've had a couple chats with him about it) and as seen in his videos he's riding as strong as he ever has. I'd say it's safe to say that he's not getting significantly stronger by eating his muscles up.
yup, hard ride days always end the same. Wife grouchy from work; 3 boys fighting with each other after school, me wiped out from a long ride, and the one that has to make dinner has been napping for the last 30 minutes. I also expel heat like crazy after a good hard long ride, sometimes well into the night. Best ending ever VC!
Great video. Really enjoyed the music with it. Question for you VC : I am getting married in Carmel next April (coming over from the UK) and we are planning to at least visit yosemite for a couple days. Can you recommend me a store that does good road bike rentals near the park? Also, if you were gonna stay near the park, where would you choose to be? I seriously cant wait to get out there riding!
Dude... your production quality really stepped up a few notches on this one. Loved seeing how you pulled your whole day together, capping with dinner. Spare the wife, drop the burp. ;) Thanks for sharing!
Hey Vegan Cyclist, I've noticed that you have change to Wahoo Elemnt bolt. Is there any possibility to prepare workouts with intervals without the trainingpeaks premium or today's plan? I thought strava and their training plans but there is no option to synchronized it with Wahoo.
Dude, I have driven that road to glacier point and it was nuts. Doing that on a bike with no cars is now on my bucket list!!! Might have to make that drive down from Seattle.
Great video VC! Gonna try for 2019 for sure. My son and I are going up this July to celebrate his HS Graduation by doing the Half Dome cables. Can't wait! Trying out the intermittent fasting for myself as well - today being my first day trying it. Got some great tips from Thomas Delauer's youtube page. Looking forward to getting to the gym tonight to see how it effects my stamina. Thanks again Bruh...:)
Good day my friend, Is there any word on the status of Glacier Point Road? I was thinking of trying to ride in the park and was wondering if it was open yet.
Great work bud - enjoyed this video. "Quit your job, divorce your wife" That look on your wife's face at the end.. LOL!! Every time I've ever cycled fasted I ended up BONKED. I don't put in nearly the miles you do however.
That’s pretty short notice, and only for a few days. I’m used to Grand Teton roads being car free for over a week. You didn’t even get a weekend. I would like to be able to plan travel from the Midwest in order to do this, and this isn’t enough time to do it.
Yo homie! love your content. Pretty great to see your cycling experiences, after binging a bunch of your videos I am super curious about that plaid hoodie you wear. Do you prefer that to a proper jacket? :D
Well that looks like a bucket list ride. Is the timing of the bike only days really short? Or could this be planned (I'm from the east coast)? Also as we've discussed I can't wait for your fasting video. I really feel like there's little to no info out there for endurance athletes who want to do IF. I've been doing it since February and can totally see results and now I'm starting to be able to feel the difference between fasted rides and fed rides...I kinda like to ride fasted better. Going to do a metric on Friday (fasted) and see how it goes.
Which cams are you filming with and which mounts are you using? Please show some screens or video of your setup / gear. Which GoPro and which phone? Any wide lenses? Any special mics? Keep it up!
That body temp drop after a ride is real, I thought it was only me but I’ve done some research and it happens to more people than you think, I’ve heard of several reasons why but I’m not sure if those are the causations
I don’t know what it is but I usually have coffee and a banana before a ride, don’t like to eat either. Usually have a BIG lunch after 2-3 hour ride though 😂
No, the snow is already melted, so once the park opens they will go straight into cars on the road. And next year they are repaving the road so unfortunately, the next bikes only day wont be until 2022, possiblely even 2023

anyone else not notice the squirrel until it moved? Just me? ok
Josh Magrum No not just you haha.
Me too dude.
damn it... 🤣
This is awesome! These videos are like gas to my cycling soul fire! Waiting for the 2018 VC kit Brah!

Seriously jealous on your smooth roads
I recognize the Wahoo alert for when you’re off your route. Whenever I get that I can’t help but yell at my computer, “I know, shut up!” The people of LA get confused.
LOL, I am always doing that. Yelling at my computer that I know where I'm going

Good stuff man. Definitely got that ride on my bucket list plus tour of Cali 🔥

Great vid, I love the helmet hair.
INCREDIBLE I’M JEALOUS! 🙌🏻
Maybe it’s just me but this feels like the first time I’ve seen your bike lol and I watched a ton of your videos
Such a sweet vid...so jelly! I gotta make it out west sometime. This ride in 2019 is a great reason to come out from Pittsburgh, Pa

Awesome video, man. I've been desperately waiting for the intermittent-fasting/spirulina video. Can't wait! 🤙🏻

Where's it at VC?!

Just found your channel through Phil Gaimon. Great content! Subbed
Oh buddy that sick aerotuck!
Awesome! I like working out on no breakfast too but not 100 miles.
cicirunner probably a good idea being your body will just eat muscle for fuel.

The view from glacier never gets old man. Nearly poo myself every time.
Amazing content as always. Greetings from Brazil
Weird, I get cold after my rides too man! You’re videos definitely motivate me to eat more healthily. Thanks. As always YEAH!
I remember the last bikes only day video you made! This one is awesome too!
Really enjoyed that one. Lovely feel to it!

That was an awesome vid man! Beautiful to watch well done,
Definitely would like to plan that trip.
Great video! Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats there too! :). Yeah Bruh!!

Awesome stuff, my computer screen doesn't do any justice. Love your videos! Awesome outro haha!
I can't wait for your video on Philsfondo
Really like your videos, look forward seeing the one on intermittent fasting!!!
Your daughter is too cute.
Awesome vlog / ride VC. Love this one. 2018 VC kits please!!!
Amazing views!
It's amazing how you can mix biking and family obligations. I wish i have that option.
EPIC Helmet Hair. The best I've ever seen. @16:34
LOL. Man I didn't see that until you pointed it out
It's weird seeing your desktop wallpaper in videos
Hey Vegan Cyclist, I've noticed that you have change to Wahoo Elemnt bolt. Is there any possibility to prepare workouts with intervals without the trainingpeaks premium or today's plan? I thought strava and their training plans but there is no option to synchronized it with Wahoo.
beautiful nature, almost like in Skyrim!
Everything after 17:16 is hilarious... the Spa scene, the voice cracking... lol
This knee high pink socks are killing me 😂😂😂😂😂

I'm going to have to give the pod in a water bottle a go. The spirulina tends to 'flush me out' though...for lack of a better term
majestic brooo
Yo homie! love your content. Pretty great to see your cycling experiences, after binging a bunch of your videos I am super curious about that plaid hoodie you wear. Do you prefer that to a proper jacket? :D

Request for content: how about a typical VC music playlist? Or how you decide what to listen to while racing?
Looking forward to the vid on fasting, I once fasted and found I had a tonne of energy but only for a short time.
It IS great view, not sure it beats cresting the rise and seeing Gibraltar rock over here but nevertheless ;) Hemp Power!
I enjoy your videos. You didn't have anything to eat during this ride? That's crazy!
Nothing solid anyway, I did take in calories around the 2 hour mark but those were liquid
16:34 Best helmet hair
11:17 "Bunch-a Hippies down hererryy!" hahaha
Hey just wanted to say great vlogs
Just one question how much Spirulina do you take daily?
Which cams are you filming with and which mounts are you using?
Please show some screens or video of your setup / gear.
Which GoPro and which phone? Any wide lenses? Any special mics?
Keep it up!
well now I have a ride to plan and look forward to once i'm out of college
Kyle Okamoto drop out now and save yourself thousands in the short and long term.
That body temp drop after a ride is real, I thought it was only me but I’ve done some research and it happens to more people than you think, I’ve heard of several reasons why but I’m not sure if those are the causations
Where do we find out what days of May the Yosemite opens for bike only? My bucket list.
I don’t know what it is but I usually have coffee and a banana before a ride, don’t like to eat either. Usually have a BIG lunch after 2-3 hour ride though 😂
Burping goofball! Kudos to your son for scaring the poo out of you haha
Not related but will you come out with that awesome cycling kit again with the fruit
I want to do this with you guys so bad!!! Should start a ‘go fund me’ to go over to ride with the VC 🤔😂😂 #bucketlist
Off-topic question, what brand is that hoodie/sweater?
What kit are the other cyclist wearing with the California bear on it?
Great video man!
anyone else notice the squirrel? ... definitely a bucket list ride
breathestrongcycling Nope, well not till it moved! lol I was distracted 😁
Epic!
Any idea if with all this Covid stuff if they are going to do the same 3 days bike only again this year??
No, the snow is already melted, so once the park opens they will go straight into cars on the road. And next year they are repaving the road so unfortunately, the next bikes only day wont be until 2022, possiblely even 2023
Yes!! Blue Sail Coffee and intermittent fasting!!! :)
Squirrel moved, but the camera didn't... What were you filming there? ;)
Could you please do a bike detailing video?
So where do they announce this bikes only day? I don't want to miss it next year
My man, what was the dates you rode this, amazing!?
One of the most epic rides I have done
And here I am gaining weight as I ride. If I see my weight drop I start eating like crazy. Looking to hit 200 pounds @ 6'2". At 175 Right now.
Spirulina question: is it better to take in tablet form or powder in water while riding?
The powdered stuff is weak, the frozen raw is a completely different thing and has no taste and has much more bioavailable nutrients.
See ya next year!
I'll hold you to it bro
After every cycle I feel that my body temperature is way high!
Can anyone direct me to some of that sick bar tape? I can't find it and the black and red would be awesome for my bike as well
did not see that squirrel at first thought VC was being super creepy lol.
Lmao the zoom in on the floaty
