Super obscure trivia: originally the kitchen jump was over a boiling pan of water but it was deemed too risky for kids so we replaced it with a goldfish bowl (I worked on this game). Also the house layout for that level was modeled after a real house belonging to some family friends.
@@joshsuko8185 Really cool to have someone who worked on the game here, thanks for the interesting fact! You guys did a great job, this was one of my favorite games as a kid, and I still love it to this day!
Nihilfist ahh, pre-rendered video... at the time it was way ahead in visual appearance... but now it cannot be played in HD resolutions because it is simply a 480p video with a car sprite on top of it!
My 4th grade class had this game for our class computer, and on snack time we could play it. We all got stuck at the outside track, and could never beat it. Until our one friend amazingly got passed it and we finally got to the party room. But by that time snack break was done but our teacher wanted to see how far we could get. Aaaaannnd that’s when a fellow asshole of a classmate said “snacks over” and turned the computer off outta no where. We were all pissed at him for dayyyyyyys😂
I played the shit out of this game when I was a kid, never unlocked a single level, played the initial 3 over and over and over and over again. Man, this brings back memories.
You just perfectly described my childhood with this game. I appreciate that man. I also dumped hours into its create a map mode if you remember that too.
I just want to point out the blatantly obvious just so everyone can enjoy this video tho the full extent... This is a video playthrough of a 17 year old game, It has no commentary and isn't on a super hyped channel... Yet it has nearly 8,000,000 views. I congratulate the creator of this video and wish him the best, this game is like a slice of my childhood and honestly seeing this on my "Should Watch" playlist made my day. ^_^ Thank You!
It's wild to see how many views this gets. This was game was just made by a small team in a tiny norcal town in the upstairs of the post office building. We never could have imagined how it would continue living on the internet like this 20+ years later.
Cars and tracks were very smooth in my memory but the maps look the same to me, expecially the outdoor map. This game lived in my memories for over 20 years and only today i decided to find a video about it on RUclips. I can't describe how strong emotions i felt watching this video because everything else from 20+ years a go came back into my memory like it was yesterday.
This is extremely nostalgic. As a kid I played this 24/7. Made my own tracks outside and around my house. If they made a new more modern version I'd play it for sure
It’s amazing when you revisit an old game and see the little tricks that developers used back in the day. Each level in this game is a pre-rendered video with a 3D Model of a car in front of it, not an actual place you can drive around in.
I played this game so much when I was about 5. I would always ask my parents what their favorite cars were, then they'd come over to the computer and pick one based on their favorite color. I'm pretty sure this game was all I'd talk about. Good times. My parents were so patient with me haha
This was one of the first games I remember playing.. I played through this when I was about 3 or 4, and after that, creating a track like one of these was a childhood dream
I just saw hot wheels unleashed advertised today and it immediately reminded me of playing this game all the time in like 2006. I haven't thought about this game in almost 15 years, I pretty much forgot it existed. Wow this really takes me back
Ahhh, the 90's. Playing this, Jazz Jackrabbit, Stunts, Road Rash and Test Drive Off-Road during weekends all day long. When games were less about "realistic" shit, and more about actually having FUN! Absolute respect for those who lived this wonderful era in PC gaming.
God this brings back memories. This was the first computer game i had when my family got our first Windows computer in 1998. Between this game and Flight Sim 98 I spent way too much time in front of the screen 😂
I remember how obsessed I es with this game when I was a kid, somehow deep in my psyche I still remember some of the background music and watching the gameplay again after so long hit me right in the nostalgia.
I'd just been browsing through Steam and ended up on your channel, and discovered this here video. Ohhhh this game, back when I was younger and never cared about lag thinking it was a "slow-mo" effect, and graphics were completely ignored if the game was fun. And it was. I distinctly remember all the tricks you could do, how flips had seemingly infinite velocity, the insane tricks you could do on the sandbox level, crashing all the time, making pointless levels, unlocking new cars, never beating the last level, the useless cars, and of course little boy shnowshner turning off the lights quickly every time the fireworks played. Nowadays the game looks so blocky, buggy, slow and easy you can't help but wonder how you loved this game, but also know exactly why you did; we never cared. And that secret dev texture level would've killed me if I'd found it back then. Being the Hot Wheels fan I was, this game had so many hours on me, beaten out only by Roller Coaster Tycoon which could keep me for 8+ hours straight. Only difference is that I can play RCT today, but this game sadly runs even worse and can crash more than just the 'wreck your car' way ;c Man, if there is someone who knows how to get this game working on Windows 7, I'd been the happiest man alive. also mario6493 plz marry me
Total memory unlock. So many hours were dumped into this game. They did so good making this. I love all the little details in the levels throughout the house.
I remember this game came on a disc with a hotwheel shirt my parents bought for me. Crazy how the neurons in my brain fired right and brought back memories from when I was like 4 or 5 as soon as I heard that intro
I used to be so obsessed with this game as a 2-3ish year old, it was probably the first game I ever played. I was so horrible at it, often repeating the first level about a thousand times, but I never ever got tired of it. The memories 🥹
God that first level, the attic, and the back door playset lives in my head rent free. I don’t think I unlocked a single level other than those three lol
Sheesh the nostalgia!!🥲 Remember being a kid with my Caprisun trying to beat the game and build the coolest custom track!! The greenhouse was always my favorite 😂😅
This game is deeply so ingrained in my memory that I even remember the music on the bedroom level syncing up with the results screen in a weird way like it did here
As a child, for some reason I was fascinated by how the game was even though it didn't have much or was of very poor quality, for no apparent reason I liked it at that time lol
What❓I never knew there was a secret level under the Mattel logo‼️ I remember unlocking all the cars and the garage graphics and headlights on the cars, but not that secret level. Wow. I missed out on that.
18:00 WHAT!? A secret track? That would have blown my childhood MIND! Yes, I have had a history with this game. As a matter of fact, Hot Wheels was a BIG part of my childhood!

I love how I spent days and days as a kid trying to finish this game, but I never did. Yet here it is, complete in 20 minutes.
Reminds me of a guy who beat tony hawks pro skater 2 single career in five minutes and took me like days to beat the same single career.
Yep. There are so many games I played as a kid that lasted me weeks or months. Now I could play through them in a few hours lol
Always got screwed over on the bed room jump that makes your car flip in the opposite direction.

The best part is its just a glorified kids imagination game. The spirit of it being a kids toy playland makes it timeless
