This song is so appropriate for today! All of his songs feed the soul. Brilliant!
I’m going to sing on stage with him in London!
Ok- I paid to be in the choir to sing Prosipina, but, STILL!!
Dream come true! I’ve been following him since I saw him open for Martha in 1996 in Montreal! 🌟💖🌟
The power and passion of this performance is astounding. Love this man's artistry.
I just discovered Rufus this year and I'm 67! My hometown is Montreal so I knew about his wonderful mother and aunt Kate and Anna. I should have guessed he'd be so talented. I love, love, love listening to his music. B.H.
❤️❤️❤️
Even more pertinent now .... sad to say
And his Papa?
He was right though wasn't he. I'm from the UK and this song makes me cry. I truly hope that America can get back to being the great nation that I grew up envying and wishing that i Iived in.
Amen! BRANDON, LET'S GO!
@@Tsimy876 I feel that you might of missed my point by a mile! I'm so sorry, please stop watching the news! That was most of my point! You can only be brainwashed if you consume the brainwashing! I wish you all the best!
Trump's rot is too deep, the body politic is in 4th stage cancer. Democracy is disappearing to be replaced in the not too distant future with Christian fascism. Democracy is the most vulnerable political system. It requires the vibrant participation and belief of its citizens. This is fast disappearing. It takes too much energy and mantainance of good will for many of the US citizens. Too many people in the US simply don't believe in democracy and rule of law any longer. It's much easier to watch dissolution and destruction happen and to be full of hate for one's fellow citizens. Fascism, here we come!
i listen to this quite a lot now ... he sends chills down my spine ....love you rufus..
I watched his brilliant performance in Hyde Park and I also went to the amazing concert with Rufus and Britten Sinfonia in Royal Albert Hall. This man is a genius
I'm in love with this man's voice
Such an incredibly underrated song
Gorgeous version of one of the best songs ever. Rufus just nails it.
It’s not a version it’s the original, he wrote this song.
@@markp9568 I know-that’s not what I meant. I meant among Rufus’s own recordings-live, studio, etc.
Rufus is sublime live and on recording. Genius. Bravo!
a unique and special artist
I recently watched "Tom à la ferme" for my film class, and that's where I heard this song for the first time.
What a wonderful, emotive talent Rufus is. Such a great song set up in concert with a feel of Copeland featuring Elton's sister on trumpet.
The voice on that man!
Talented member of a talented family. Great song.
By far the best male singer there ever was and is...voice of an orchestra
Most underrated musician of all time. A staggering and effortless talent.
Sarah Guichard lol
“By far the best...” ? Wow 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Basuki Sugito fully agree !!
I’m so late and couldn’t agree more. There is one man however, one angel of other worthy talent who is allowed this title as well. ruclips.net/video/TVktlLhXyOg/видео.html
Pure artistry!
And, I've just being listening to Gershwin.
was just talking to my bro about him & he pops on radio 2 now ! wow..
This song means much to me as an American. Especially in this third year of WW III we are in today. America and all of us across the world live under fascism. America is now a grand experiment and process in understanding the source of unalienable rights. May we all come to understand. “I prefer dangerous freedom to peaceful slavery.” Thomas Jefferson
I love this version. Rufus is remarkable as an artist and performer. Charming and funny too. Thoroughly enjoyed his concert in Ridgefield, CT this week!
Depths of solitude and feeling
I saw him in Medford Oregon.. I love his musicality and passion.. one of a kind. ❤
Beautiful piece of music.
A killer!
Love❤
Left me very 😢
I love to hear his voice very much...God bless Rufus
You took advantage of a world that loved you well.
Think of that, America.
LOVE from Athens 🔥❤️🔥
Genius magnificent adorable Rufus! Amazing and Gorgeous
I could break down and sob over how this beautiful song and how it speaks of heart break over the state of America today and it doesn't have to be like this. If this is it for her I'd like to know because I've got some packing to do. I love my country but come on now, it's too much, mourning everyday for latest death toll, for sheer audacity of those who have decided we don't like the rules so we'll make new ones but they won't be for all Americans. I'm doing my best at keeping it manageable for myself while mourning loss of my husband in 2020 along with millions of others who are suffering as well. Can anyone tell us something anything? Because we have to have answers for our children. Who wants to explain to them that we can't deliver hopes and dreams to them because the rules change every day. And we wonder why there's such widespread depression taking hold.
Stunning.x
beautiful song.
Beautiful performance
Every note, every note I consume like manna
Love George Michael’s cover of this song.
❤ excellent.
I’m so glad George covered this song. I miss him so much. Smart, wonderful man...and so if our Rufus!
You will appreciate Michael's interview for UK's DESERT ISLAND DISCS podcast where he discusses his appreciation for this track which is his final selection for that interview.
I'd describe this song & performance as liberatingly gorgeous. It's like a dark hearted lullaby. Brilliant & perfect for the current state of America.
Magnifique ❤
Honestly never heard this piece until this evening, thanks to the Top 2000 a GoGo documentary. Already one of my favorite songs of all time...
Whats the song title?
Genius
Never heard of him till now and now I'm hooked he's amazing 😮❤ late to the party but here now wow I need more 😢 heard on BBC radio 3 just now from royal Albert hall awesome place bern there many times to see Eric Clapton I'm now loving this it's so mesmerizing..
if I heard these first tones live I would just ugly cry
I ❤️ this 🎵
Fits to day this song
I love rufus.beatiful song
I have the privilege of seeing him in May and I am hoping he sings this one. It’s so real for me as I try to do whatever I can to leave this backwards country.
if you want to see the best performance of Rufus ,,, look at wrap around your finger with sting
Love this performance from Rufus - such a great song and brilliant lyrics. Talented musician.
Check out George Michael’s live interpretation of this song too, it’s brilliant and definitely worth a listen too.
Saludos 😉
so deep
❤️
Love this tune george Michael also done a great cover of this.
You will appreciate Michael's interview for UK's DESERT ISLAND DISCS podcast where he discusses his appreciation for this track which is his final selection for that interview.
❤❤❤❤👌
He is my favorite singer, love him so much, don't know how to see him face to face
my country, vast and rich, has been a disappointment to many and a source of only death and hatred for others. i just want peace and life, and hope others around the world share my feelings even if our governments hate each other. peace be upon all my brothers and sisters.
2023:
I got to live in a world that has already been burned down.
- this must have been a huge rush for him. good for him. he's awesome. he found otrivin.
A wonderful performance but I think I prefer George Michael’s cover of it. I cant pinpoint the reason its just that George’s voice is just so smooth
Genius. But GM always excels.
how come this has less than 1k likes?...
such a relevant song for what is going wrong with the US.
Yes! BRANDON, LET'S GO!!!
I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm going to a place that has already been disgraced
I'm gonna see some folks who have already been let down
I'm so tired of America
I'm gonna make it up for all of The Sunday Times
I'm gonna make it up for all of the nursery rhymes
They never really seem to want to tell the truth
I'm so tired of you, America
Making my own way home
Ain't gonna be alone
I've got a life to lead, America
I've got a life to lead
Tell me, do you really think you go to hell for having loved?
Tell me, enough of thinking everything that you've done is good
I really need to know, after soaking the body of Jesus Christ in blood
I'm so tired of America
I really need to know
I may just never see you again, or might as well
You took advantage of a world that loved you well
I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm so tired of you, America
Making my own way home
Ain't gonna be alone
I've got a life to lead, America
I've got a life to lead
I got a soul to feed
I got a dream to heed
And that's all I need
Making my own way home
Ain't gonna be alone
I'm going to a town
That has already been burnt down
💓
His voice is perfect for this song. It breaks my heart 💔❤️
George Michael’s version doesn’t come anywhere close to Rufus’. It sounds very nice but I feel nothing listening to it.
MegaAzevedo123 George sings it out admiration of a fellow artist both are fabulous ...
I agree
You will appreciate Michael's interview for UK's DESERT ISLAND DISCS podcast where he discusses his appreciation for this track which is his final selection for that interview.
I cant put flowers in Trafalgar square. Dont worry, you know :)
Losing the Backup singers takes away from it..prefer the original recorded version
Really like this, but I have to say, that George Michael"s cover of this song, is Way Better.😁💜. Sorry Mr Wainwright.❤️. Love and Miss You George 💜💜
well ...I just liked a bit the trumpet intro
otherwise , the orchestral arrangement is mediocre so as anything else in this version
though its his "chef d'oeuvre"
Tell me....
Do you really think you go to hell for having loved?
The lyrics are so beautiful ❤️
Gm sounds better 👍👍
Bellissima. 😊
Rufus sound like he singing same tone all the time, not close as brilliant as GM does.
He WROTE this. But GM had a gorgeous voice, agreed.
Rufus wrote the song. He owns it.
@@dawnwiegand7257 Yes I know he wrote the song, but GM voice is much better
@@asiastreets4032 I prefer Rufus's rougher emotive vocals but GM does have a gorgeous voice.
@@dawnwiegand7257It is good we like different things, what would the world me if all like the same. Be careful over there and stay safe
