I loved Alex's character as a kid, for the first time my little self felt that she could relate to someone so much. Disney did extremely well with Alex's personality as a teenager. She felt like a teenager, not some mary sue or a cinderella with good morals, she was flawed as a person and had the childishness in her prevalent in the teens and that made her all the more lovable. Not to mention Selena Gomez played her part very well.

Other then the internet premise the shows are no where near alike in plot or characters, except in very tiny aspects that are probably similar because of them both being kids channels. I think the internet aspect alone can’t count as copying because how big social media is now, what are people expecting them to never make a show about social media because Nikelodeon did it once, that feels like asking to much and a lost opportunity for Disney.

But they ended up changing it to iCarly, then Disney used the idea for Sonny With A Chance.
