Nominal GDP does matter. International trade is done by using the US dollar. PPP is only good for measuring the internal economy of a country. GDP Nominal matters more than GDP PPP on the global stage.

Cualquiera con 2 neuronas entiende que no hay forma de pagar una deuda si no se para de despilfarrar dinero, pero nuestro gobierno nos quiere pobres y el argentino promedio es tan obtuso que no se da cuenta. It doesn't measure the real economic power of a Nation. For that, you need to see the Power Purchasing Parity GDP. In that list, Brazil is number 8 in the World with almost 4 trillion dollars.

Since it just shows the value of dollar in another currencies, it lacks the capacity to really compare the sizes of economies. So Nominal GDP is in disuse and is used more in USA for obvious reasons: USA is the only country interested in the World to be like it was in 1960.
