My name, Fernando, means adventurer, bold voyager. I love traveling. I will now be bold and adventurous and tell you, I think you're beautiful and intelligent, very alluring qualities. I'm in Istanbul at the moment if you want to have lunch? ❤🎉
The name John means "God is gracious". Names have meanings. It's perfectly reasonable to ask what Yuki means. As she says, it could have different meanings depending on the kanji character. The fact that she doesn't know the kanji character for her own name indicates that she's lower class Japanese.
My name Bernhard means strong as a bear. And as far as i know John means god has mercy. I know that because my last name is from north eastern germany, but i am from Austria, and comes from Hannes which comes from Johannes which comes from Johann which is just the german and austrian name for John.
I have run into several Asians adopting a western name. I believe it is to make it easier to remember their name and actually pronouncing it correctly. Is that assumption even right in the first place? Then I have been thinking about it in reverse. Should western people let eastern people call them something they can remember? Some Norse names are difficult to pronounce even in English. My nickname is very close to Yuki and now I'm just confused. I guess I should just keep it simple and say that only a part of my name is fine.

I get it. However, I'm also - while not one of the people who would keep pressing you on this as that's rude and disrespectful - one of the people who has a hard time with the concept of a name being "just a name - it doesn't mean anything." John, for instance, means "God is gracious." Nicholas means "victory of the people." My oldest daughter's name is from Celtic and means "beautiful girl," while my youngest has maybe the only instance of a name whose meaning was lost to time, as she's named after a goddess who was named after the city of her primary worship, and/or vice-versa, but the origins of the name go farther back than we have recorded history for, so it's been lost. So, I can sympathize with the THOUGHT PROCESS of "yeah, but a name has to mean something," I still think persistently harassing someone about it is pretty ride and disrespectful. Plus what you're describing about words that sound like other words, written in various ways with various parts of other Kanji, or not, I get, probably only because I've studied Japanese, multiple Chinese, and Egyptian and other cultures, though far from extensively. My daughter's name, for instance, wouldn't matter if it was spelled Kighlee, Kylie, or Kylee, it's the same word with the same meaning. But there, and they're, and their are not the same words, so it's really not that foreign a concept.
Might be cultural differencr but i dont see the point of giving your children a name which has no meaning. Like the parents must have something in their mind when they name their baby. Or would it go something like this: Fuck it, just give this crotch goblin a damn name and lets get this over with.... Lets just go with Yuki. Family friend: Wow such a nice name, what prompted you to give this name? Parent: Nothing. We didn't think too much. Just gave a damned name and got the process over.
