Hello, I’d like to ask for advice: Would you recommend private or group setting acting lessons for a beginner with no experience? I was considering paying for some private lessons so that an instructor could really gauge me and see if there is some spark/talent there first before I jump into a group setting. What are your thoughts?
I'm really struggling with self tapes rn, I'm more of a theatre oriented person so it's so hard to keep your eyes on the camera instead of being open. But I also need to do self tapes because I'm auditioning for the national youth theatre when I'm older
What I find interesting is that Finn Wolfhard self taped while he was sick in bed xD...and boom,he got the role.When he did that,did he have an agent or something?

I for example saw that a casting director post on fb the requirements and they accept self tape auditions and they mentioned something about ecocast. Does that mean you need an agent to submit or could you do it yourself?
Self taping is nice, but for some reason, I like in person auditions better, mostly because the directors can see what you are actually like, instead of how you look at your absolute best

If you get booked they will pay for your living expenses out here. For example when Tom Holland (Spider-Man) got booked in Marvel, they payed for his travel, living expenses, fitness coaches, etc.
You can do it yourself, as long as it is of good quality and you had some light edits added to it, it could work. You should never use your iPhone camera to get your headshot though. Though you may like the photo, the quality in terms of pixel from the phone to the DSLR cameras is very different, so if you print it the quality will not be of any real use. If you can get a good camera that either you own or a friend owns, then you could do it yourself, but if you want other options I’d suggest checking out my previous videos on headshots. I have another big one on this coming out soon. If you do it yourself, you will want your lighting set up properly and a background that is not too clutter. You’ll either want it blurred out of or one solid color. Hope that helps!

Self taping for projects really comes down to the decision of the casting director. They can choose whether or not they only want to have in person auditions, self tapes, or both. Smaller projects will sometimes stick with the standard in person auditions, but with that being said you could find an equal amount that will also want self tapes. For the most part it will come down to the decision of the casting director and the type of projects you are auditioning for. Some projects will have it either be optional, mandatory, or not at all, it depends. The truth is, it’s almost impossible to be an actor now and not get self tape auditions at some point. The amount of self tape auditions that we had 5 years ago to now has increased drastically and it keeps growing as it becomes a preferred platform for a lot of casting directors. It allows casting the ability to observe more actors (which is beneficial for the actor). In a single day the casting director will have only so many hours to see a particular amount of Actors in a given time; self tapes has created a work around that allows more actors to be viewed. Now of course the disadvantage is that you do not get to initially meet them in person (which can be an advantage for some actors), but because you know as actor you will have to do BOTH, you want to make sure your skills are adept to being able to work with both situations. The worst thing that could happen for an actor would be for them to get the opportunity to audition with a *self tape* for their perfect role on Netflix, for the big screen, or a mainstream network, and have that opportunity fall through, only because they didn’t know how to show their best work through their self tapes. As Actors we have to know how to give our best work.
It again all depends on the project, you do not always get to choose. It can also sometimes depend on your agent, when they submit you for projects, they may prefer for you to do in person meetings when you can. And if you're an introvert or just having a bit of trouble talking to people. Do you have any advice on how to be confident or be able to talk to people without being shy?
Practicing with your friends can be a great tool for yourselves as long as you have guidelines. When it comes to practicing, it can sometimes be easy to get off track, so my suggestion, would be to set goals for yourself and define what outcomes you are going for. You’ll also need measures to check your progress (recording yourself can be very useful) In terms of your confidence question, don’t worry, many people are introverts, so don’t feel alone in this matter. There’s is a difference between being an introvert and bringing shy. Ideally we probably would prefer to not have shyness in our lives. Like anything shyness can be overcome. Confidence is really nothing else than a skill. Taking yourself out of your comfort zone each day will help you grow your confidence over time. It’s not easy at first, but it gets easier.

It’s possible but a lot harder, unless you have some sort of clout behind you, than agents don’t mind representing Actors out of state, for the most part. Again, it’s not impossible, but it’s harder.

TheNCA without an agent you can’t get into A/B types of auditions so yes he did have an agent

Hello I have a question about getting a photo shot can u take a photo of yourself and prent it out and that can be my photo shot ?
You can do it yourself, as long as it is of good quality and you had some light edits added to it, it could work. You should never use your iPhone camera to get your headshot though.
