- The hike in Lamoille Canyon to Lamoille Lake in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada is spectacular. Lamoille Lake is a gorgeous blue green alpine lake, which sits at an elevation of 9,747 feet. The Ruby Mountains are a glacier carved mountain range and have often been compared to the Swiss Alps. Lamoille Canyon is the largest valley in the Ruby Mountains.
The trailhead for Lamoille Lake is at the end of the Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway. Elevation at the trailhead is 8,800 feet. From the trailhead, you start your ascent through a lush green meadow with plenty of wildflowers and cross Lamoille Creek. As you continue into the canyon, there is a series of switchbacks with spectacular views of Lamoille Canyon and the Ruby Mountains. Higher up the trail levels off and enters a marshy area with scrubby vegetation. Just beyond this area are the Dollars Lakes with amazing mountain views. Continuing on the trail another half mile and the blue green waters of Lamoille Lake come into view. The length of the trail is 2 miles one way with an elevation gain of 947 feet.
We were pleasantly surprised by the rugged beauty of Lamoille Canyon and the Ruby Mountains. The scenery on the hike to Lamoille Lake was incredible and probably one of the prettiest hikes we have ever been on. Lamoille Canyon and the Ruby Mountains are a hidden gem in the United States.

Very beautiful hiking trail, not much trees, mostly bushes, Love the background tall mountains, just amazing to see them around when you hike, beautiful lake, the water is calm, clear and beautiful view around. I've only just managed to pick my jaw up off the floor to write this comment! That is the picture perfect example of nature at its best! Mountains, blankets of forests, and trickling waterways, this is what true dreams are made of! I would absolutely love the opportunity to drive through that picturesque landscape and maybe do some hiking too!
This was probably the prettiest hike we had every been on. I was really surprised to find such amazing beauty in the northeastern portion of the state of Nevada. If you ever find yourself in that part of the world, I recommend it!

We were very pleasantly surprised by this part of Nevada. If you are ever in northeast Nevada near Elko, be sure to check out the nearby Ruby Mountains and Lamoille Canyon. It was gorgeous.

Yes this definitely looks more like Montana, Idaho or Colorado. But the Rubies are in northern Nevada, so the climate is different then the Las Vegas area in southern Nevada. I am honored that you have added this to one of your playlists. I really appreciate it. Hope you guys are having a good day!

Loved this beautiful hike, Anita. The mountain trail is gorgeous with the majestic mountains! Your both right though, about hiking at higher elevations. Make's it hard to catch your breath! Beautiful photo captures of the flowers, birds and a friendly chipmunk. The lake is stunning! Nevada really is a beautiful state once you get out of Las Vegas. Never been here but have passed by on 80 a few times and a little further south along the beautiful "Loneliest Highway in America." Thanks so much for bringing us along.
This place is a hidden gem. We loved northern Nevada with the mountain ranges and the wide open basins in-between. I had heard about Lamoille Canyon, but was so very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was. We need to drive the Loneliest Highway someday also. Take care!
