Love the Frog! I had one when I was 10 years old and drove the wheels off it. As I got older, it ended up in pieces in a cardboard box that got shuffled from closet to closet, but I never threw it out. It came with me when I bought a house, got married, had a son. My wife would pull the box out from time to time and ask me why I was keeping it. About two years ago, I learned they re-released them and parts were available again. All it was missing were shocks, a few specific bolts, a motor and motor cover and a full set of wheels and tires. I got it all fixed up and now my son (who's now 10 himself) is enjoying it. I know other brands are more popular these days, but this thing is 35 years old and runs as good as new. I stocked up on some spare parts and hopefully my son will be able to enjoy it with his children 25 years from now!
Chris O'Riley
Great post Chris 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Very nice 😎👍🏻 I like The Green & Black
RC Action Australia
Cheers Adam 😊👊🏻
Big fan of that green/black livery - with fewer decals I reckon that's a schema to re-do.
al1stare
Yeah me too, tbh that original shell is in great condition, I reckon a couple of hours on it and I could get it mint 🤔🤷🏼♂️
Thanks for watching my friend
I kinda liked it better with the window painted lol. Looks great either way!
viper 76
Yeah I agree buddy, I’ve noticed since that some guys paint it on purpose 😊
Thanks for watching 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends I've got a brat that I bought so I could use the body for a "new" mud blaster build which leaves me with the chassis i was think of turning into a frog seeing as though i never had one...i think I'll be painting my windshield lol!!
Looks ace Glenn, remember that when we were building these in our bedrooms back in the day, the focus was to get out and run it so little bits here and there that were not 100%, meant nothing....this has turned out awesome. Was sending you virtual hugs when you said nothing you do is perfect! Lies, everything I've seen so far is awesome. I'm along for the journey and I am not disappointed my friend - NEXT!
Chris Lee - UK
Thanks again for your kind words Chris 🤩👊🏻
And you forgot to weigh the buggy.
40 years later you still don't realise you're supposed to add some weight to the buggies.
Like I've mentioned before, I've always had a soft spot for the Frog. I really loved watching this come together, excellent videos 👍
Timmo
Thanks so much for watching and commenting my friend 🤩👊🏻
He forgot to add some weight to the buggies.
I make tamiya hirux! very good dizain!😊👊
케피
That’s a lovely kit my friend 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching
Great video!👍. You did an excellent job!!
Wait! That's going to cost you extra.
Thank you so much for great comment 🤩👊🏻
Always a thumbs up man
I enjoy these videos.
eskimo joe
Thanks so much it’s appreciated my friend 😊👊🏻
Looks great I had a red one
Emaxxman Uk
Cool 😎
Thanks as always for watching my friend 👊🏻
I like the box art look the best too... Its very tempting to try something different, but when I did I regretted it.
And I reckon the yellow tyre writing looks great.
MeesterDash
Excellent thanks for watching my friend 🤩👊🏻
U did a fantastic job! Thanx for sharing bro 😁👊
Harlon David
Thanks man, you’re support is much appreciated 🤩👊🏻
looks great my friend👊🇬🇧😊👍😎
Leons rc hobbys
Thanks Leon, happy with this one after I corrected the painting mistake 😂👊🏻
might have mentioned this before but, it reminds me of my falcon.... pink and yellow :D
chloe devereaux
I always thought the Falcon was the better car out of these two, but as you’ll hopefully see in the Frog running video next week, I was wrong 😳. I was really surprised jus how good this thing ran 😊
As always thanks for watching my friend 🤩👊🏻
My first car was a frog and you have inspired me to bring it back.
Looking good 👍👍
David Turner
Thanks David 🤩👊🏻
Always wanted one as a kid in the 80s
U know what I admire about u? Your humble.. you did a great job as usual. I get we all have off days as I was restoring a vintage Frog and Fox with NOS original bodies and decals and was painting them at the same time (for my ADD compels me to paint more than one body at a time ) and I somehow got the wings mixed up before painting and when it was time to apply “NO GUTS NO GLORY” decal the damn thing didn’t fit which took me all about 3 seconds to realize the error that occurred and for the price list for vintage original items on eBay it turned to be an Expensive WTF moment so I get the bad day thing,, however mate at the same time the truth is your worst day at painting is better than 90 percent of people’s best day.. your from the old school and I absolutely love to restore and paint as well and have never seen anything less than box art from you.. great video love the Frog.. it was the fastest kit Tamiya had for its time and still hangs with the big dogs.. cheers!
Love the Frog especially box art. I’m restoring one myself at the moment so this has been great to watch. Looks fantastic you’ve made a nice job of it.
Wade Beaumont
Thanks so much Wade, much appreciated buddy 🤩👊🏻
The full sized buggy is supposed to weight over 1000kg.
You're supposed to add weight to the frog.
Great video Glenn👍 Seeing this really brings back some memories I brought one of these when they were released whilst on holiday in Canada and brought it back to the Uk👍
Antony Telford
Excellent Antony 😎👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Great job Glenn, even with its new paint job it's still a minger. 😁
Gary Rawlins
Minger lol 😂 love it 😊
Yeah it’s an ugly one for sure 😬
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Glenn its looking great! I for one love the Frog and think its boxart is superb to look at! But many struggle with it in the painting side of things and l think many have painted the windscreen too lol what you like mate 😁😁😁
But yeah nice job and great vid👍
Mad-Bee RC & BB
Thank you my friend 😊👊🏻
That was my first car! I loved it. Something that I do on my shells in which I use the body posts is line areas that rub by adding a piece of clear packing tape on the inside by those areas so the paint does not scape off.
That’s a great tip my friend 😎
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
looks great!! I would cover the hole left by sticker on the wing so dirt did not intrude if and when you drive it. You can use some clear sticker scraps. I always regretted that and it looked bad afterwards. You can also get some thin poly masking tape to do hard lines and use regular masking for larger areas overlapping to the poly line. looks great and very era correct!!!!
kapple17
Excellent 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching my friend
I'm planning on doing a reverse box art paint job; white stripe on the bottom and a pink body where the white is. Looking forward to seeing how it looks.
Johnny Knoxville
Oh I like the sound that idea 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy
How much does your frog weigh?
The full sized frog weighs over one thousand kg.
Love the frog , saved and original, there's nothing better than that.
David Cotter
Absolutely spot on David 😊👊🏻
As always Glen you’ve done a great job on the restoration....... However I still don’t love the frog🤣🤣🤣.. Mind you as it was such an iconic buggy from our childhood.... I am going to have to bite the bullet and see if I can acquire one!!!. Goodness me🤣🤣🤣🤣
Darren Grimmer
Lol that’s the spirit, gotta take the ugly ones too 😂👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
bad ass! dont forget the roll over bars on the sides👍
j c
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
cant believe your not a Frog fan. So iconic. I have never owned one but always on the look out for one.
FlyingAmbo
I do like them, there just a tad ugly 😂👊🏻. But I have to say it ran great, way better than the Falcon I had out last time 🚗💨💨
thumbs up, the thing that always stuck in my mind when I first saw the frog in a hobby shop was the "No Guts No Glory" slogan on the wing, just thought it sounded so cool lol
AL
Excellent thanks for watching buddy 🤩👊🏻
Been waiting since I was a kid to reminisce on these cars had about 8 but moved on to rc4wd now
As you say Glen. A Marmite car. For me love Marmite or down here we live Vegemite. Frog is my first love and fortunately enough stive have it. Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to a running video.
Aro800
Excellent 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Thanks for the video and enthusiasm putting back to original condition... got a new re-release FROG in 2010?? or there about and am starting to paint the shell.. Paint the shell, install a bit of radio gear and away we go. wasn't ever gonna finish it, was happy with the construction of car and shell cut out and installed with no paint.. been to long just sitting 9/10 years.. time to take it for a lap down the street.. Now eyeing off a rebuild on the Ford Escort RS Michelin Pilot 1994?? and a New shell for the Audi Veltin's DTM 2007? , only have the the 3 Tamiya's but am now getting the bug back.... look forward to following your channel.. cheers from Australia.. Brad
It’s green yay 😁. That’s what color mine will be .
Love these vids. It's re-ignited my love for these buggies!
John Penfound
Excellent John 🤩👊🏻
Great job!
Looks great
Totally loving your channel 👌😉 I am only new to RC hobby, I purchased a comical frog recently . This original frog brings back so many memories as I was a kid when I first saw it many years ago in the 80’s . I think you did an incredible job with this car .... fantastic 👏
Nice cars the only part I really dislike of that whole series of cars is the front bumper
Jody Blackwell
Yeah I’ve never really thought about it in detail 🤔. For me it’s part of that tamiya era, more like a carrying handle than a bumper for me back in the day 😂👊🏻
Glenn, it looks amazing! We got the rere Clodbuster and start the build next week. Thinking of going brushless with it just for kicks. Have you seen the Mad Van by Kyosho? I know it’s not a Tamiya, but man does that thing look so much like a lunchbox and it’s a lot of fun
Jub
Excellent I bet you can’t wait to start the Clod build my friend 😎
Yeah that Kyosho van looks like it’s a lot of fun 🚗💨💨
Thanks for watching my friend 👊🏻
Nice Job
Awesomus Maximus
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
I had a Tamyia Frog, and a Hornet/Grasshopper
Brenton K
Excellent thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
What an iconic car. The wheels look new to me... However I don't know if this is the "original". My original that's been with me for 40 years does not have bumper like that. The support piece between main bars are a lot smaller on mine (only at the corners where the bars make a cross), but yours looks like a re-leased version where the supporting structure goes all the way to the end of the bumper. Not sure if this makes sense... I dig the white lettering on the tires a lot!
I did the same thing !!!
Why didn’t you mask the pink first paint the white then paint the pink last if you back with silver you don’t get bleed through Also it you remove the masking tape as soon as it dry enough to handle any bleed or paint can be easily removed using a wooden cocktail stick also you get a crisper line along the mask if you leave it to harden overnight it tends to leave a jagged line
Hope I don’t come over as critical just trying to pass on some tips I always watch and enjoy your videos and your have a go attitude 👍👍👍
Neil Fastfreddie Anderson
Great information and help as always Neil, thank you 😊
Neil Fastfreddie Anderson
No not at all Neil, I really appreciate people like yourself taking the time to leave helpful comments and information 😊👊🏻
Looks wicked Glenn.
Im not a fan of the Frog either but fully appreciate box art, esp a resto job. Welldone!
Matt McLafferty
Thanks Matt, yes I’m happy with it, but I was really happy when I ran it 😊🚗💨💨💨
If I remember correctly there were two rods on each side as well? At least that's what I remember from what my classmate had back in the 80's.
I noticed it I was like what but I want to see it run in the snow did it do well in the snow?
Brad Kalman
I’ll post the running video next week Brad, no it didn’t go well in the snow 😞👊🏻
My next NIB build this, always wanted one based on the box art pic
A Glenn you should get a re re version of it and paint it the white and pink it supposed to be please.
I notice that some people paint the wind shield white.
Darth Nagus
Yes since I did that, I have seen some do on purpose, tbh it’s doesn’t look too bad like that 🤔🤷🏼♂️. Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
I did the same thing with the front window, easy to miss
I prefer the white to the green
God of Hell Fire
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
Not one of my favourite cars but good job as usual mate 👊🏻👍🏻
Ben Walker
Thanks Ben 😊👊🏻
Hi Glenn; I’m not sure, but have you got the rear window post decals upside down, i.e. on the wrong sides?
Adrian Stevens
No I don’t think so Adrian, but there crap for sure!
Thanks for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
Интересная модель 👍🇷🇺
Evgeny RC Drezgalovo 48rus
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
As a youngster, this the grasshopper and the hornet were iconic. Along with the boomerang, hotshot, bigwig, monster beetle etc such a great era for Tamiya RC. I’m still waiting on the Striker re-re, that was my only RC car and I loved it, upgraded with Sonic fighter suspension, it was awesome, until I caught the bumper on the wall (twice). That was some weak front end.
30 years on and while I still appreciate the frog, I can’t help but feel it’s a little ugly. All chassis and no body. Don’t get me wrong, still iconic, just not the top of my list for a retro / re-re. My son now has a Grasshopper with ballraces and 540. So much fun. Just waiting on that Striker.
FRST2012
Excellent memories my friend 😊👊🏻
Control yourself.
Decide if it's got anything to do with you.
If not, move on in life.
Hi Glenn, sorry to bother you again but have a question about my Tamiya Neo Scorcher’s will 1/8th buggy tyres fit my 1/10th wheels ? There the ProLine Blockade M4 tyres with inserts any help will be, as usual, greatly appreciated 😁👍 I like the grasshopper apart from that stupid bumper 🤭🤮 love sleek lines of the body and that green colour I think looks knock out 😜 another totally honest review/build video, great work in showing us how you mask your bodies 😁👍👍👍👍
Kenneth Campbell
Hey 👋
I would guess you would need new wheels as well buddy, also they’ll need to be the hex styles you don’t need to mod the car 🤔🤷🏼♂️
TAMIYA Legends cushty thanks Glenn 😁👍👍👍 love your new hotshot absolutely stunning and I’m not surprised it’s now stopping with you 😁 as always mate take care, thanks for all you do for us it is very much appreciated 😁👍👍👍👍
Kenneth Campbell
Lovely comment thank you 😊
Glenn I think you made same mistake as me. White paint too far up the window but it doesn't describe it well in manual
Lee Hurst
I certainly did Lee 😂🔫
Thanks for watching buddy
why have you sprayed the windscreen white??????
chloe devereaux
Quite simply because I’m an idiot! 😂🔫. I can’t believe I did that, luckily it was an easy fix, but nevertheless a rookie error 😞
Thanks for watching my friend
@@TAMIYALegends we've all done it lol..... looked kinda ok tbh !!!!!
Ariels ? Tam released a series of F1 cars I think at end 80 begging 90s in attempt to get race series going but it never took off I had a Jordan seven up would be nice to see theses cars again any plans ?
Yes the frog is great
At the end she looks great!!
I always wanted one of these back in the day. Had a Blackfoot (which I loved) and that really left me with some serious questions about how Tamiya solved the front suspension with the frog. I understand it now but how would you rate it? It’s too bad there is no oil shock upgrade. Kinda puzzles me to this day why they went the route they did.
IlmarBeekman
Yes it’s a very odd and interesting design, that’s for sure 😬
But I have to say I was really impressed with it running, it handled way better than I thought it would 😎🚗💨💨💨💨
Love it. Doing the same thing to mine except going with a tamiya esc. Do you know where I can get a pair of the side light pods?
Hi there and thanks for the video
quick question after you painted the pink are did you mask the pink later to paint the white? I m just concerned of not getting the line perfect...I ve watched 3 videos and everyone skips that part.
If you can please let me know.
Also a quick tip on the yellow on the tyres? that looks great by the way.
have a good day
Excellent video! Too bad you forgot to mask the front windshield 🥺
Nooooo, the windscreen is supposed to be clear and the rear / wing mount is meant to be black. Still love it though! :)
Who Me
Lol 😂 I know I made that mistake, but I’ve corrected it by the end of this video 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends I love the Frog, but it is a pain in the arse to paint! ....and I end up smashing it up anyway! haha
And where's the few grams of lead weight to add to this thing to get the suspension to star working?
The back section of the body (where the wing is mounted to) is supposed to be black.
I don't know if you even still have this buggy but the decals for the roll bars around the back window are on upsidedown.
Balaclava you should join Tank RC for video tonight at 9:30 get in the live video chat tonight please you should chat with us you always have so many questions to ask about certain things somebody there will probably be able to answer you.
What radios would have been used for these cars back then? Did Tamiya make them?
Is there a way to make the frog or grasshopper look more realistic? I love the realistic look of the bbx , but the price is too steep for me
It looks like the frog, monster beetle and the brat are using same chassis, are they right,,?
So Tamiya are changing the rere decals due to licensing etc, how to MCi manage it?
And where did you add the additional weight to get the frog's suspension to work and look like it's working like the full sized version?
You didn't add ANY additional weight.
You didn't add any weight to any of your tamiya products.
Do you even realise your 1/10th buggies aren't weighted correctly for 1/10th scale?
The full sized buggy is approximately 1500kg.
Your frog is supposed to be at 150kg.
Time to get this old girl finished !!! Dude, you can now get Viagra over the counter or you could give your Rampant Rabbit a go 😬. God, I’ve just watched it all the way through and there are so many double entendres that I heard the words “Ooh Matron” coming from Kenneth Williams grave. I’m going to submit the transcription to the producers of the new Carry On movie.
Alan Morris
Pmsk Alan 😂👊🏻
Well my life is kinda like a carry on movie at the moment, so it all kinda makes sense buddy 😂👊🏻
As always I really enjoy your comments 😊😊😊
Your video is an instant classic! With RUclips scanning all the videos for music and age-banding, I’m surprised it didn’t trip the system .... having the words hard, pink and helmet within the space of just a minute might get you demonetise 😬😂😭😁
Alan Morris
Pmsl 🤪🤪🤪
😎😎😎👌👌👌👌
Forgot his eyes.
How much is the price?
That would be stupid to throw it in the bin you still need by a re re. Lol
To be honest I prefer the non original black/green body.
The end of the world because you didn't fix up the pink and white areas lol.
I'm sorry the box art is nicer.
