Wasn't a fantasy you're a little off the mark. More like a mind based scenario based on instinct and analyzation of the situation more so instinct though. I like to think of it if you've seen the Sherlock homes movies the one that has that underground ring fight how he sees the future essentially and knows how the fight will play out but for him it's more analysis than anything but this guy is more instinct than genius thought process. At least that's how I look at it but regarless of how I look at it it's still not fantasy

See, the thing is that he hates traitorous adventurers like this guy almost as much as he hates goblins. I'd wager that he had a run in with this sort of scum in the past while developing his goblin-hunting skills.
More importantly, it puts a bad name on adventurers in general and would probably affect their ability to find work and especially for GS where hunting goblins isn't the type of work people typically put out for adventurers

Not Depicted in the Anime:
This guy was in a party with 3 other guys. Those 3 all had barely working equipment (read: repaired way past the point of usefulness) while he had brand new equipment at the time of the interview. The not-halfling consistently screwed his party out of dungeon treasure and (if I remember right) took the bigger cut out of the quest rewards: he handled quest taking and reporting and had his party convinced the rewards were lower than they actually were. Right before or after this interview came the interview with the rest of the party and they actually got promoted.
So yeah this guy was just that much of a scumbag.
He's also an idiot apparently. How would he not realize people would notice the strange differences and call him out on it?
I commented that the thing about taking what loot you find was a dumb rule but I’m that context I agree he’s a dick for stealing their hard earned pay and for considering to attack her. Still hate the rule but that doesn’t make violence justified.
I'd of had he's head for sure if I found that out and say oh I don't know had David Dein's legacy (aka deinsleif) and had to put one to rest to sheave that thing it'd definitely be that guy who ripped me off hardcore

It's actually even more savage than you think. What he actually said was "Oboeteru!" Which can be translated to "Remember this!" And her response was "Okotowarishimasu" which can be translated to "I politely decline/refuse." She basically told him that the entire scenario wasn't even worth remembering. If words could kill, that dude would be paste.

This actually puts an interesting perspective: while people generally misunderstand GS and think lowly of him (his appearance and obsession with goblins does not match his suprisingly high rank), even a piece of shit like this guy recognises that GS is still someone you do not want to screw with unless you want to have a very bad time.
Wait till we get to the contents that covers the Volume 4 Light Novel, this guy will appear again to try and get revenge, while he does have a plan to deal with GS it still ends how we all expect it would.

Honestly, these would be good questions. Basics are the greatest for handling situations. Sure, it may not be a Goblin, but having to adapt quickly is something all adventurerers need.

I actually did this as a DM in Dungeon of the Mad Mage. The rogue of the group scouted ahead and found a chest. I told him in a private chat that he found a chest. He proceeded to steal the contents for himself. What he failed to realize was that the chest he found was huge and he didn't hide the empty chest. The rest of the party followed and I explained as followed. You come into the room and see a very large chest sitting in the room wide open. There's a busted lock on the ground and the interior of the chest in clean. The party asked him if there was any loot and he said no. I had the paladin roll Insight and the rogue roll deception. He had a very hard time convincing the party that he had not swindled them out of their share of the loot. They ended up abandoning him on the 5th floor of the dungeon tied to a tree for werebats and a green dragon to find.

@@blazesona12 It’s even worse. Green Dragons are well known in (5e at least) D&D lore to enjoy psychological torture. One of their favorite pastimes is hunting down and capturing elves so they can break their minds. That rogue did not have a good day.

For people that think that guild girl's punishment was harsh, please remember Rhea scout was stealing from the group by keeping the loot for himself. He was putting his teammates lives in needless danger with his greed. The fact that he was caught doing this as a steel-class adventure means that there's the possibility that he done this before.
There's a saying in my country, it's "The needle thief becomes a cow thief" meaning someone who commits small crimes and gets away with it, will eventually commit severe crimes. Stealing loots is bad enough, but if a guy like this continues to work in other groups, he will put his group in danger for his own benefits

JA if you only knew. In the novel the guy actually goes and ambushes goblin slayer nad guild girl. He actually worked with a dark elf to destroy the town and actually kicked goblin slayers ass(had to play death to kill him)

Why am I getting an alert for this comment and why is it highlighted for me? (I mean not that I’m complaining)
The interesting part about this scene is the fact that a lot of the lower ranks didn’t think much of Goblin Slayer till they discovered he was a silver ranked adventurer which is pretty high but on the other hand GS himself didn’t care about his rank and even admit that receiving his rank was “something the association decided“ and not something he aimed for unlike other adventurers.
Didn’t he receive that rank as an exception of sort, since he’s a specialist in the field?

@@olivierdubreuil-gagnon2201not exactly the side story (year 1) covers one of his earlier promotions. The exception was the scrutiny he got. Normally somebody with his “experience points” would be stamped quickly but he’d gotten a full guild audit (Guild Girls superior came in to look him over and with his record on paper she came in dubious, not generous). The key concern was normally to reach certain ranks you need to prove you can work with a party which he’d almost never done at that point. He’s an unusual case but it was judged that he still met qualifications, namely that he can work with others when need, and while he doesn’t utilize them as much his general skills are solid. She did note that while deserving an increase in rank he was a horrible adventurer, which he agreed with.

It’s a shame too, the guy would’ve been a fantastic adventurer... precisely because his instincts correctly told him this was a fight he couldn’t win.
That was what I was thinking. This man conjured up a scenario, with Goblin Slayer punching his face hard enough to invoke blood.. in the midst of his rage. I don't know if that's instinct, or this man's mind is just.. that sharpened, but it's a shame his character was that rotten. He could've been a fantastic teammate.

I'm actually going to try playing rogue in the next D&D campaign I'm in with friends. He's seen a lot of D&D stuff, but he snapped almost straight away when I started joking about backstabbing essential NPC's - do people really play rogues like that??
Meta4z some do. I once became the adventures big bad evil guy who became a rival that instilled so much fury into the party that out cavalier litterally threw him off a very tall castle wall then jumped down after him to make CERTAIN that he would die from the fall.

I just hear that a lot of them tend to be assholes, murdering literally everyone and stealing just anything that isn't tacked down and use the excuse of roleplaying the character
To be fair Meta4z a lot of players are outright murderous to everything (at least the ones I’ve seen. Then again our pacifist had no problem with others killing and was seemingly eager to just throw goblins off of cliffs.
I’ve been DMing and playing DnD for a while now. From my experience it is mostly new players who think Rogues=theives that steal from everything and everyone thinking that there will be no concequences for their actions as if they are playing a video game.
It’s a shame really since I really like playing rogues as a player and to this day I have never robbed or backsttabed the parties I was with for any reason.
Hell at one point my true neutral Drow rogue was the “moral” center for a bunch of newbie murderhobos supposedly playing “good” aligned characters.
Honestly so long as you don’t try to screw over your party you should be fine, but I would ask your DM to see what he will and will not allow at your table just to be safe.

•If he went for the GuildGirl, he gets punched in the face, bye teeth and nose, hello contusion.
•If he went for GoblinSlayer, he gets overpowered easily, maybe kicked in the chest so broken rib cage, good luck breathing by yourself.
•If he went for the LieDetectorGirl, might be too out of reach for a punch or a kick of GS, but that only means GS throws something at him, most likely a knife in a very, very lethal way...

Here's the thing tho, the Lie Detection Girl is still closer to GS than the Rhea scout, it doesn't really matter who he goes for, he's getting clobbered either way, no weapons required

Looked even more Goblin like when GS caved his face in for threatening Guild Girl
So many small details to this scene that brings it all together. GS starts off by having his hands on his knees at a more relaxed position (no weapon visible) but as he reads the room he adjusts putting his hands up near his chest. A much better position to suddenly grab or grapple with a shorter opponent. Gs took his role as an observer seriously and never lowered his guard, the Rhea actually comes off as pretty competent in correctly estimating his chances for success at a sudden sneak attack.
If he goes for the girl Goblin slayer is in a great position to lunge forward grab one of his arms and strike him. Loot thief then would have the second guild girl who is clearly a magic user free to cast spells against him. If he were to lunge after the spell caster (much easier target for a thief at that range) then he would most likely succeed at killing one of the girls immediately before GS could react but then again he'd have to face off against a person wearing full plate armor in a small space. Doable but noisy and messy, so risky for what was already decided.
He instead choses to walk out without his rank and ability to quest in that town but he still gets to keep all his loot and new gear. Kind of a good scenario for him as they don't really know how much treasure he actually has saved up or stolen. Also shows he can swallow his pride and know when he's beat. Definitely a tense moment and had an adventurer not been present I'm pretty sure he'd have killed both and looted their bodies before anyone noticed.

@@israelmoralesnaranjo8332 And yet not so professional as to prevent letting low/porcelain rank adventurers take goblin quests as almost everyone underestimates just how dangerous goblins are which gets a lot of low ranking adventurers be slaughtered like pigs or worse in the case of female adventurers, even Guild Girl admits that it is very shortsighted of the Adventurers Guild as a whole
@@nickmartin5294 there is an interesting RUclipsr who has covered this issue. His name is Devistation. As for his stance in this matter I'll summarise it briefly, he says that the guild let's these newbie take this kind of quest is because even though the mortality rate is high the only people who would take these kinds of quests are the newbies since the pay isn't much and doesn't grant them fame for doing so.
I’d like to add one thing, even if RS went for the caster, there was no guarantee that he’d make it to her either. He’d need to look away from GS, so it’d be more likely that GS would chuck something on hand, maybe even his chair , the moment RS looked away. Doesn’t matter how fast he is or how good his reflexes are, if RS looks away from an enemy, he’s probably going to get clocked if said enemy throws an improvised weapon at him.
I would have loved if when they zoomed in on goblin slayers visor, you could see a faint red glow starting to form.

@@jjgarcia156 When both eyes go red, every hostile in the immediate vicinity(roughly 10-15 meters) dies, and every goblin in a 2 km radius drops dead from fear. All loot is automatically recovered and all wounds are healed. This ability is only available for use once weekly after parameters are met, including all party members needing to be below 20% health.
That's the rule of the campaign I just made up in my head.
As the situation scalates and the Rhea gets angrier, you can tell that GS is carefully watching his movements, just like: "Go Ahead Make My Day". Even he himself felt the risk of trying anything.
Shame it doesn't show what the manga did when the scout glances at Goblin Slayer - a single burning eye inside the helmet, giving off an even more of a 'go ahead. Try it.' vibe than he does here.
Honestly, I think the unyielding steel of his helmet is it's own kind of intimidating.
Love how GS eye doesn't glow when the kid imagines his own defeat, even in his mind GS is uninterested

This is just such a good scene. Despite not knowing anything about GS and people considering goblins to be weak and not worth it, this guys still knows in a fight between him and GS, GS would take him down without even trying. He may be considered an oddball by everyone, but they don't underestimate him.
They found out not to cuz of the attack in eps 11 & 12 --- and they also found out his leading ability
Let's be honest here; Goblin Slayer was there, but his mind was thinking how to kill Goblins more faster.
It is this scene more than any other that makes Guild Girl my best girl. Priestess is nice, High Elf Archer is spunky, Cow Girl has a great figure and is a homemaker, and I would crawl 10 miles over broken glass for Sword Maiden. But Guild Girl shows the morals to not put up with cheats and liars, and dispatches her enemies without mercy or hesitation.

In the manga/VN the problem is not that he took the treasure, it's that he took it and hit it from his party, essentially stealing from them.
And took the biggest cut of their quest rewards.

The interesting part is that skill wise, that guy could put a fight with GS, heck he might even be a better fighter overall. but when he thinks about attacking he realizes that there is no openings.
Heck GS went fully armored head to toe to a fricking interview, he is always prepared, he never leaves anything to chance, ever
No, not really. He did had a vision where he leaped at Guild Girl, he thought it was possible. But then he looked at his side and saw Goblin Slayer. A warrior that was strong enough to do solo goblin slaying quests that normally requires a full party. In hand to hand combat he assumed he would've get destroyed by him. The guy might have been a scumbag but he was no fool, he knew he was not going to win. This is all coming from the LN btw.
In the manga he actually gets his stomach sliced open by Goblin Slayer when he tried to kill guild girl.
And it was well deserved
And the best part of that was hat Rhea Scout was a better fighter in a straight 1v1. It’s a good thing Goblin Slayer doesn’t care for traditional fighting.

You can pretty much tell that Guild Girl is the proctor for Goblin Slayer's promotional exam. She probably just said it on the reception desk along with a reward from the coppers and silver coins there's a silver tag while he just races along to the next Goblin quest.
