    Biggest issues are the oil consumption and alignment. Gotta invest around 3k (more like 1k if they remain on stock suspension) to get them fixed if people wanna save money in the long run. Oil catch can and oil cooler for the oil problems. If using coil overs, all camber control and toe arms are a must along with an optional eccentric lockout kit to maintain alignment. Otherwise, tires will be chewed up quickly. I have the sedan variant that im building up as a streetable track car.

    Good video! I have an '03 350z, and to sort of help other VQ owners, I'd like to share some suggestions for maintenance here. The headlights need to be clearcoated. I know Z1 offers this as a service, and it's something I'll do eventually. I wet-sanded mine, and I'm stuck redoing it every several months. The lower control arm bushing can be replaced - another Z1 part, I think they recommend having a shop do it. Switching to synthetic transmission fluid eliminated the bit of 5th gear grind I had. I've also heard of some revup owners who've installed oil coolers, and that helped with oil consumption. Cooler oil doesn't get vaporized, and sucked into the intake through the pcv valve.

  • @louiemac9410

      Mr. Turboski hey brother thanks for the idea I think I’m going to try that. I just got the G35X and one of the headlights had two little holes at the bottom on the cover where someone drilled the holes for wheel holes. As soon as I get that replaced I am going to clearcoat them

  • @lagoskid
    @lagoskid 7 лет назад +3

    Lol, similar to my FX35.. which was 273,000 miles now.
    The oil consumption with the VQs is so odd, though. Apparently, there is a fix and that's by converting the circulation to a closed pcv system via catch can and breathers.
    Foggy headlight assembly
    Wheel bearings
    Struts/Shocks
    Lower oil pan gasket
    Oil cooler
    Valve cover/valve cover gaskets
    Catalytic converter (swapped for ART pipes)
    Still whippin' entry level sports cars on the road after 10 years.

  • @eiji81

    That mis-aligned shift knob is tripping me out!
    Another thing to add, is the clutch pedal on 05+ (manual trans) can get stuck halfway down in hot weather over 80deg F if you drive in heavier or stop-n-go traffic. I have a new stainless steel clutch line (installed 02/2017) and also replaced the master cylinder 2yrs ago and the pedal will still get stuck sometimes.
    Good vid though!

    I always loved the look of the G35 Coupe. I still think it's one of the best looking coupes ever made. I finally joined the club and bought a low mile, Black on Black 2014 Infiniti Q50 3.7 Premium RWD sedan a couple of months ago, and I freaking love this car despite what some of the magazines said about it. Even bone stock this car freaking hauls ass pulling all the way to about 7,850 rpm before the fuel cutoff with the 7AT and the lightweight 17" wheels in RWD form. I already started modding it. I installed dual K&N air filters into both of the factory intakes. I deleted both exhaust resonators... It sounds amazing now by the way. I also installed Berk HFC's. I ditched the heavy and terrible runflat tires with 8 pound lighter (per tire), one size wider 235/55 Z-rated performance tires. I also replaced the only exterior lights on the car that weren't LED from the factory with LED's, and those are... The red LED rear turn signal, and white LED license plate bulbs. Now all the exterior lights are LED and it looks sick! Especially at night. I'm planning on doing many more mods. I already notice some nice power gains over stock dropping over 60 pounds off the 3,611 pound curb weight between the tires, resonator deletes & HFC's. I'll replace the K&N filters with twin Stillen LT CAI's and tune it via UpRev or EcuTek and keep modding from there. I have videos of my Q50 if you want to check it out. Thanks for all the great videos. I'll subscribe after this comment. I saw one of your WRX videos as well. Very nice man! Have a good one.

    I just bought my 04 G35 and I knew beforehand that the driver's window actuator was iffy and the passenger door lock actuator was iffy but I was fine with it, they aren't hard problems to fix. It is cool to know that these are pretty common things though.

  • @angels1042
    @angels1042 7 лет назад +2

    The window issue can be fixed by pressing the window motor reset button after you remove the door panel. Press and hold while rolling the window up and then again while rolling down. Don't push the power window button to far to activate auto roll up. Add a after market lock actuator to fix the locking issue.There are RUclips videos for both.

  • @Mrkevi123
    @Mrkevi123 5 лет назад +3

    The window motors will gradually fail with use, usually every 2-3 years.
    Also on the roadster models the top will stop working every 5 years. The motor is pretty much the same as the doors.
    The lower control arm will always fail about every 80,000miles.
    The Valve Cover gasket will wear out. It is a pain in the ass to replace, it's a 8hour job on the first go.
    Valve cover will need to be replace if hard starts persist, this mean oil is in plugs because valve cover is cracked.
    Crank case and cam shaft sensors will need to be replace or a hard start will occur.

    @stealthg35infiniti94 3 года назад +2

    My 05 G35 Coupe 6MT Sport/Aero package (101K miles, 16 years old) has had similar issues. No door lock/window issues. Suspension is starting to clunk. Solution probably would be to replace the 30 or so bushings. Camber kit is a must otherwise you will go through tires very quickly. Oil consumption is tolerable if you stay under 4K RPMs. If you visit Red Line often, you'll add a quart every 3K miles. Use 100% synthetic oil 10w30 if your climate permits, otherwise 5w30. Original paint is soft and will deteriorate after 10 years even with the best of care. Original clutch pedal will fail. Replace with a RJM Pedal and install new master/slave cylinders with steel hose. Use DOT 4 synthetic fluid for maximum longevity. Front rotors will develop heat spots and will pulsate. A good budget brand is Power Stop with Akebono ASP Pads. Beware of fitment issues with rear E Brake as there various sizes of rear rotors. Avoid cross drilled/slotted rotors if you don't want NVH. Your dash will crack, spend $1500 to fix it or buy a dash cover for $60. All in all ,the car is very enjoyable every time I drive it.

    Yeah...exact same place on my tan interior where the leather tears--2006 G35. That being said I've had damn good luck with mine--2006 bought in 2012 from a dealership. Oil and maintaince done and always garaged. Has about 120k miles but being retired this G only gets about 4-5k max per year in miles. I love that freakin car and it still looks good! No oil burning,no leaks,I've never had a window motor go bad. Fingers crossed.

    I brought a salvaged 2004 G35 with 6200 miles in 2005 for $22,500 otd. I still have it today with about 84,000 miles, I did my own maintenance, like oil change, rear differential fluid, battery, brakes, driver side window motor , and just did the pulley belts last week for the first time. I will be changing out the spark plugs this weekend for the first time also. With that I don't have any major issues mentioned in this video. I park my car outside everyday since 2007 when my garage was full. The exterior look like shit, but the inside (leather seat and dash) still look pretty good without any tear. My G35's been very reliable all these years. Hope all is well.

      Nick Herrera ... thanks for the info! I didn't know the explorer had this issue too. I wander if they did what Infiniti did and used cheap actuators from another car model. Infiniti used the actuators from the 350Z but forgot tot take into account the extra door weight of the G.

    • @jigsaw3334
      @jigsaw3334 7 лет назад +1

      Steven Rickett yeah I bought the car 2nd owner in 07 and he had replaced clutch to a JWT bc plates were bad. Had a lightened flywheel as well which caused synchro in 5th to act up occasionally. Also I had a problem with bank 1 not firing properly. Code would say misfire but it wasnt plugs and wasn't fuel pump. Figured it was a faulty ECU but I had to reset it every few weeks bc it would throw the CEL and go into limp mode sometimes.
      But I loved it. Got an exhaust and shifter bushings and lowered it some good springs and wheels and tires and it was a blast. Traded it in for 1k above blue book too since I had Brembos and Nav. Had a few friends FI their G35s and will soon have another to do the same to.
      Good luck enjoyed the vid!Steven Rickett

Everything you mentioned is right. A few more things are...the radiator will go so it's best to replace with an aluminum one. Slip n vdc sensors will come on. Door locks 🔒 will get stuck. Gas gauge in 2 of mine were out. If u have a manual put a stage 3 clutch at least. I had my 1st G from 09-2018 n changed it the clutch 3 times the last time with a stage 3. It's interesting that people are having some of these issues. I know that the headlights fog up, and the rev-up engine consumes more oil... but the other stuff is new to me. I've owned 2 350z's (05 and 07), and a 370z. I haven't had any of those problems. I've covered a lot of miles with them, and taken probably 50+ passes down the 1/4 mile.

    • @EdibleGrandpa
      @EdibleGrandpa  7 лет назад

      hartsickdisciple ... I believe a lot of these issues are due to the fact that Infiniti tried using a lot of Nissan parts for the G35 instead of redesigning parts for the G specifically. When the G37 came out they redesigned everything which is why it has fewer issues. I believe that is why the Z doesn't have as many issues either. The parts were designed for the Z... An Infiniti dealer mechanic told me about reused Z parts for the G, that's the only reason I know about it

    • @tirekickers6632
      @tirekickers6632 7 лет назад

      Nissan just threw on the Infiniti badge to appease the middle class masses (it's called nissan skyline 350gt in japan). The 350z has basically all the same issues the g35 coupe has because they are almost the same car minus the different wheel base length, lack of back seats, suspension tuning on shocks and few minor things i'm forgetting.

    What is the control arm bushing problem, specifically, with your G ? How many miles ? I drive a 2007 M35X with 58,000 miles, and the car has been bulletproof for 11 years, other than regular maintenance, a set of brakes last year, and tires.

    • @EdibleGrandpa
      @EdibleGrandpa  7 лет назад +1

      Theron Lewis Jr. ... I'm a little confused. When you say "wrong parts for the bottom" do you mean the lower control arm? I'm just trying to understand what part your looking for so I can help you. There's a front upper control arm and a front lower control arm.

    • @TKLewis904
      @TKLewis904 7 лет назад

      Apparently what i needed is actually called a compression rod but they are listed as lower forward control arms on most sites. Pretty confusing but i think i figured it out.

    • @EdibleGrandpa

      I understand. To each his own. I can live with it. Maybe one day I'll say "wtf was I thinking" but for now I'll deal with it lol and as far as oil goes, I'm switching to a "high Mileage" oil next change to see if that helps because those oils have "gasket sealing" properties that are suppose to help. Maybe it will... maybe it won't. We'll find out and I'll do some experimenting from there. Thank you for the tip though on Penzoil and the natural oil. I'll take that into consideration.

    Just got rid of my 04 G35 coupe 6MT and my god is what I can say haha
    Luckily I worked at a Nissan Dealer for a while but I had issues since day one with it only having 63k on it. Window motors, door lock actuators, wheel bearings, brand new shift fork pin snapped and the slave cylinder went out at the same time pulling into my garage, burned an ungodly amount of oil at 70k and only got worse, interior fell apart, 1st to 2nd was notchy, axles clicking, and the camshaft position sensors went out. I still loved this car no matter what, and contrary to what it sounds like, I babied this car because it was my daily and is not fast enough to be a dick with IMO which is why I liked it for a daily. Never left me stranded and with the motordyne exhaust and air intake, youll be smiling all the time. Most everything I listed began or happened 4 to 6 months after ownership and I owned it for 2 years until 84k. Still one of the most beautiful cars to come out of Japan for sure.

I’ve had it for 3 years and have had no instances of any of these “common” issues what so ever. One thing I’ve noticed watching these types of videos on issues like oil consumption and engine issues is that the engine has been modified in some way. I’m wondering if self or uncertified modifications are what cause a lot of issues?

    I've been using a a M/T 2005 G35 coupe since about 5 years now. I also have a 2009 QX56 and I have faced some similar issues between both of these vehicles. The leather tears down or comes off real quick so I had to get it stitched every now and then. The motor windings in the windows used to break or the cables disconnect so that needed some technical attention. The check engine light is always on even after I've gotten it checked with the local Infiniti dealership here (they say it's the car's computer, I can live with that lol) . The door hydraulics stop functioning at one point (especially in the QX, it's a very common problem with the backdoor lift) also have encountered issues with both the engines but its not a big deal with VKs and VQs as their repairing costs and engine parts are affordable. (Although I did end up swapping a 2JZ-GTE in the G lol) and yes, have replaced the headlights for about 4 times now in the G. (They just won't clean up!)All this apart, I love my babies. Infinities rule.

Tried to fix it myself, gave up on that, spent the money to get the JDM double din kit, and threw an aftermarket into it, fixed the issue. But of course the JDM din kit was like $300 by itself.

    I have not had a single engine-related issue since I bought it this month last year, and I've put over 40 000km on it from 150. Obviously this is multi factorial, but this tends to be consistent with a lot of owners, hence why people call VQs bulletproof. As said in other comments, they burn a lot of oil (I know that is a given with most performance vehicles, but these ones burn a LOT), which is why you hear of so many people having rod knock. Top up a bit weekly and you'll be more than fine.

    • @EdibleGrandpa
      @EdibleGrandpa  7 лет назад

      You are correct my friend, this car burns more oil than your average car!!! I do just that, I top off my oil once it gets to the "half" mark on the dipstick. I do this twice between oil changed, ends up being half a quart each time. So I'm adding 1 quart between oil changes. I noticed you use KM. Where are you from? Just curious :)

    • @hudsonlopez2302
      @hudsonlopez2302 7 лет назад +1

      Couldn't agree more lol! And that's certainly a good habit to get into, I wish someone had told me that before I'd seen my oil pressure light upon breaking (because rods weren't getting oil when it went towards front). Luckily no knock, and now I'm on top of it. Had less then "low" on dipstick reading.. Makes me wonder why the oil light never came on before the pressure light. As for my location, I am about 30 minutes northeast of Toronto Ontario, how about you? Lots of Gs out here hahaha

    i think that seat side near the edge there must be a car design problem cause mine tore too. I dont have any gear grinding on mine and the only time that do is when i let go the clutch a sec faster before i am in gear. otherwise, it shift perfect with no grinding. no window problems though the lock on the passenger side dont usually work on mine, but sometimes it do. As of oil consumption, it last long for my 04 coupe 6mt. I only need to change it or add more to it 2-3 times a year. My mpg is not really that great and i usually fill gas for it once every week. my average is about 15mpg driving from work and home. I guess thats what i get for flooring the car every time im an aggressive driver. 150k miles on it and still runs great and the check engine light only pop up once. its my all season car and i drive it in the snow. now i gotta repaint the edge of my rear fenders due to all the years of driving in salt, corrosion starting to show up.

      If you were to get a NON rev-up engine model G (revup only came in G35 05-07 6mt), it consumes a normal amount of oil for a NA sports car. It's not that bad. 2006 with 108k, I have owned since 47k:
    1) Have not had window motor issues
    2) My seat is ripped and looks like garbage
    3) I replaced my lower control arms, cost my front tires to wear out prematurely
    4) I replace the oil about every 3,500 miles and it never fails: 5qts in and about 2.5-3qts out.
    5) My headlights did fog, but I sanded down and clear coated them
    6) Never had an issue with the remote
    7) I hate that my transmission does tend to grind when going into 5th much like yours
    All in all, 61,000 miles driven and I've replaced a set of brake pads, a set of tires, a battery and a blower motor for the HVAC. Repairs and routine maintenance over five years including tires right around $2,435.

      Thanks for the info! 2 questions:Are you adding oil between oil changes to keep it topped off from that 2.5-3 qts out?Is your 06 a manual? • @vegasxventures

      Steven Rickett Yessir, it's a 6MT with the RevUp. From everything I've read on 6MT.net and G35Driver.com is that the 06 was plagued with most of the problem, hence the year that produced 298hp. Between oil changes I add a quart after around 1,200 miles to not let it run too low. I enjoy your content, keep it up.

    one thing that makes these potentially a very risky buy is the oil consumption... Not that savvy buyer wont keep it topped up but rather, that the Previous owner or Owners may have been blissfully unaware and ran the damn thing low and never checked..thus you could be buying a car that spent time running with very low oil levels...not good!
