Just picked this up for $10 on a deep eShop sale. The hockey game is worth that price on it’s own. It’s like NES Ice Hockey with personality. So good. Lol
If the Sega Meda Drive Collection isn't the best compilation of videogames out there, it does come damn near close to being it at least! I have to get Taito Legends. And I have the Capcom Beat 'em Up collection which does look fun buuuuut... for some reason it doesn't sit well with my computer. Weird.
I’d love to see you update the video game compilation stuff. Everything you do is done so well. Thanks for another great review. You can get a physical version of this from Play Asia. The cover is in Japanese but it has the English options. I bought this a year ago at least and still play these every so often. Amazing collection.
Great advice! I can definitely see a lot of people wanting to own the physical version of this game, especially if it's not much more than the $40 download.
My favorite video game compilation: Right now it is Spyro Trilogy. I have never played Spyro games before on PS1, somehow I missed them, so my first time getting into it and in glorious HD it is really amazing and awesome. Still on Spyro 1 at the moment.
@@DefunctGames Also got Panzer Dragoon Remake for $2,71. It was a PSN sale this last weekend. I'm enjoying it greatly! I wondered for years about how downtown nekketsu story playes originally in context. Hopefully we'll get the a collection with the snes titles as well.
Favorite compilation? There are a lot to choose from that are excellent. Lately I've been playing the crap out of the Castlevania compilation on my Switch. However, I think my all time favorite is the Genesis collection that was released for Xbox 360 and PS3. Great selection of Genesis games that even though I have a Genesis having that disc made my life much more enjoyable. The Capcom Arcade Volume 1 bundle for PS2 is pretty awesome as well! Love your content, brother!
Always had a real soft spot for the Kunio games ever since I rented River City Ransom on a whim as a kid found it really unique of fun. I got even more into the series around 1999-2000 when I discovered emulation and found there was a whole UNIVERSE of Kunio games I didn't make the trip over here. A collection like this back then we have blown my mind. That being said, I agree that 40 bucks is a hair steep for a collection like this. I'll pick it up, but I'll wait for a sale. They could have sweetened the deal by including the 16-bit games as well - there's only a few of them.
Probably my favourite comp would be the Rare Collection on xb1. Being english and growing up on Ultimate games (who became Rare) for the Spectrum (Jetpac in 1982 and so on) they share a special place. The Spectrum links into the video partially as Ocean bought the computer rights to Renegade and released 2 sequels of their own making and Target Renegade III The Final Chapter never came to NES... "The hero's girlfriend has been beamed into the future, while the man himself has been sent back into prehistory. This sets the scene for a sideways scrolling arena combat game, where the player fights in various time periods. The settings varied from Egyptian and medieval, to a futuristic level." That sounds exactly your kind of thing! :-)
For me it's gotta be Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection...there was just so much love put into selecting all of the best of a variety of genres not just from the Genesis, but also from the Sega Master System for this compilation. It had pretty much ALL of the best RPGs, beat-em-ups, and platformers from Sega's iconic systems...
I’m extremely partial to both volumes of the Sega Classics collection. However, what I’d like to see would be a Data East compilation that included all of their non-licensed arcade games. From 1976-2003, they put out some extremely memorable arcade classics. Many of which, sadly, never made it out of the arcades. Those that did, due to hardware limitations, were barely recognizable. Having a compilation that featured arcade exact ports of these titles would be pretty amazing.
I own nearly all the carts and will probably get this. Yes including the arcade games would have been great. Or even other versions of the games like the master system double dragon or PCE downtown nekketsu. BARF! QOTD, Yeah, the list of outstanding compilations has really grown. The Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection stood out to me because it had a lot of extras and a video interview with Reiko Kodama.
I'm honestly surprised you didn't like Dunk Heroes. It's probably my favorite Kunio sports game and possibly my favorite basketball game, even over NBA Jam.
Perhaps I would be more into it with a real friend or an easier computer opponent. After repeated plays, I just found that I couldn't get the hang of it. No matter what I did, the computer would end up beating me by a wide margin. I found the whole thing incredibly frustrating.
@@DefunctGames Four-players is definitely how the game is best enjoyed, but in single player, equipping your players with the new gear you get from wins helps as opponents get harder.
Too bad there doesnt seem to be a physical release, gotta pick up the Asian version instead :/ QOTD: of modern realeases, the Capcom beat'em up bundle is fantastic. The Taito and Capcom collections for the PS2 are pretty cool too!
If they'd included the original arcade versions (of the games that had arcade versions) then I might've been interested in this bundle, but since it's just NES ports I'll have to pass. The original Kunio and Double Dragon games were important in laying the groundwork for the beat-em-up genre, but they were surpassed in pretty much every way by games that came later, and without the arcade versions even that original historical value is missing from this compilation.
This does look interesting, that's for sure. Be interested in trying it out, if anything for curiosity sake. As for the question, think I'll go with the Castlevania set that came out last year, or maybe it was 2018, which ever year, with a very close second and third being the Dragon's Lair 1 and 2 with Space Ace and Leisure Suit Larry Greatest Hits.
I picked up SNK 40th Anniversary the other day. In depth look at the 80s history of SNK with some really neat and endearingly quant art in its mueseum mode. Incidentally, from your review, this game seems to have no sort of mueseum mode. Is that correct? I suppose it makes up for it with the brand new translations of the famicom oddities.
There's no proper museum mode, at least based on what I could see. About the closest you get is a page about each game that shows the cover art and a screenshot. It would have been great to see some of the advertising stills, concept art, etc. That kind of material is too often lacking from these types of compilations, which is a shame.
Hello there.. I purchased this game on PS4, to play Online Co-op with my friend. But whenever we Create a Room and share it with Each Other, we cannot Enter the Room. It shows the Room...we press connect..it takes too long and shows " Could Not Enter Room". Do you know how to fix this?...Please Help
Update - We managed to Join...It was NAT Type Issue Indeed. Friend had NAT Type 3. NAT Type 3 means Restricted Connections. He had to connect WiFi of Mobile Hotspot to get NAT Type 2. And then room connected. No speed lag.
Qotd - Mario All-Stars. This did everything right by improving sound and graphics and giving us Americans the original Mario 2. I really look forward to this compilation, just at half the price. I love the NES veraions of Double Dragon 1 and 2. Three is a good idea, just not executed well. As for the double dragon arcade games, those are trash and you should know better.
I've had a real change of heart about Super Mario All-Stars. When I originally created the Top 50 Compilations of All Time list, I included All-Stars and raved about many of the things you mentioned. However, I'm not sure I would include it anymore, since it's really just a collection of remakes. I wish they would have included the original 8-bit versions with the upgrades, because I prefer a couple of those in their NES form.
I have these games I just don’t like that they look washed out if u compare double dragon 1 to the one on virtual console the colors on here are washed out
I think they should have added Super Spike V Ball too
You forgot to mention River City Girls 1 and 2, as far as Kuniokun’s influence and off shoots.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved your video. I’m just a huge fan of River City Girls!
Im surprised this collect doesn't includes Super Spike V'ball since it technically HAS the Lee Brothers playable

I love compilations. I hope this one comes out on Steam, too. My favourite compilations so far are the Sega Mega Drive Collection and Taito Legends 2.

Wow. That is indeed a great price. So many games for $9.

My main gripe is that given the steep price tag, they could've included AT LEAST some if not all of the Super Famicom and Game Boy Kunio games!
well technically, Kunio brawls it out in all the sports he plays
