Jund vs Bloom Titan | Quarterfinals 1 - Quest for the Best Modern Deck Ever
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 окт 2024
- What was the best Modern deck ever? We made our community vote for one deck to represent each year since 2011, played four rounds of Swiss, and now we bring you each match of the Top 8. Andrea is playing Carl and either Deathrite Shaman or Summer Bloom could be knocked out of the tournament.

I really appreciate all the work that went into this documentation. You guys make amazing content!
The best thing to come out of those swiss rounds is that Jund will forever Jund.
Super appreciate that you guys uploaded the breakdown of the swiss matches! I was fiending to see the results of some standard decks but this is just as good too! Amazing content as always
Thank you for this! Just to let you know, there’s a small error in the article - in the results writeup for Uro Pile, it says it went 2-1 against Uro Pile instead of 1-2 against Eggs.

Andrea's personality shines through more and more each time hes on, his first episodes it felt like you were just watching a pro do his thing, but now it feels like hes just another nember of channel just playing magic with his friends
Yeah :) Andrea is a friend now! We love having him over
You fine folks are doing the MtG equivalent of experimental archaeology, love it! Keep up the public service and A+ emtertainment 😊
Thank you for your kind words :) we try our best
“I put it in your deck because i thought it would be whimsical and fun.”
We should all have someone like Carl in our lives!
So excited for this series to start up! It can't be overstated how great the editing is and how easy it makes it to follow the game.
Thank you :) that is very kind of you to say! I'm glad you enjoy them
@@CardmarketMagic Fele is that you?
@synxsnacks1552 no Fele doesn't answer youtube comments, that's always me, Carl :) I also edit most of the videos
You are the GOAT Carl!
@@CardmarketMagic
@@CardmarketMagic oh! hi Carl! thanks so much for the bangin’ edit!!!
The Hive Mind line in game 2 would've been INSANE.
Oh yessss, that would have been juicy :)
Another thing they didn't mention is that DTS can gain 2 life, making it much much less likely that the draw is fatal, making the "attack liliana" plan even better.
It's always nice to see Jund doing well
I imagine either Hogaak or Scam will win but I'm still cheering for Jund over here
Keep up the good work guys!
Scam is just unfair Jund
Having looked at the Swiss rounds, Hogaak more or less dominated the field, and it's not likely to be very close at all. There's a reason that Hogaak was the card banned once the deck pivoted so smoothly away from the Bridges to the other shenanigans the deck had. Honestly, Hogaak was even better without Bridge, too, which is the more terrifying part.
Considering what's planned, it'll be determined by whether scam can kick out Hogaak or not.
The issue is, you'd need to have a very dedicated sideboard to deal with Gaak. I don't think Scam is favoured at all.
@@Geroaergaroe Looking at the Rakdos Midrange/Scam deck in modern, according to MTGGoldfish, they run 4 Voidwalkers maindeck, and 2ish Hearses in the Side, which would generally be enough graveyard hate. However, I get the feeling that Gaak won't necessarily care about either, since Hearse is really slow and the combo is instant speed. Voidwalker is fast enough, but likely eats a push or similar removal spell at the earliest time that Gaak sees one. Fury and Grief are generally pretty bad against Gaak as well.
Idk, I feel like eldrazi aggro will be able to handle scam shenanigans. Especially on the play g1. Shitting out multiple mimics and top decking a thought-knot seer is not out of the question, and pre-lurrus shadow will not likely be able to keep up with the raw power of eldrazi aggro.
Im super pumped for this series but I will be extremely surprised if Hogaak doesnt win. That deck was absolutely BUSTED.
The only person who could stop Hogaak from winning a Pro Tour is in the building tho 😅
Gaack ain't all that great. Eldrazi aggro is around, and with other powerhouses like scam... it just doesn't seem like it can win g1 on play or draw vs. 16 power on t2
@@fabulous_finn7810 Hogaak was 4-0 in the Swiss and won 2-1 vs Scam with Dauthi Voidwalker in play. I would be very surprised if Hogaak were to lose the tournament, if piloted well.
Imagine if Hogaak lost to Eggs/Second Breakfast. But nobody voting for decks had any TASTE.
@@brothertobias Eggs lost out in swiss. KCI lost on breakers. Hogaak 4-0'd facing 3 top 8 opponents.
The cardmarket team just never misses. love the content, this is such a cool way to showcase nostalgic decks
Carl saying “unfortunately I’m going to have to mulligan” at 1:50 and blending between two clips is insanely smooth editing. I see you editor!
It's a lot easier to edit when you are in the videos :) I often say things purposely similar in the gameplay and interview so can blend them later when I edit
Bloom Titan is just so fun to watch do its things.
I love how the best drop at 1:55 lines up with him saying “now that is a titan hand!”
I still think "Oops, All Balls" Is the best smh
Only need 3 mana
Only need 4 turns
I can't get enough of Carl saying "my lightning skelemental"
@@Logan-lz5guI think you meant “MY LIIIGHTNING SKELEMENTAAAAALLL!”
@@Logan-lz5gu oops, all skelementals
Seeing someone pilot amulet titan is always a treat. That deck is so much fun to watch.
It does my heart good to see jund beat amulet. Also andrea saying “they are wrong” made me snort laugh
It doesn't matter what format you do this series with. It'll always interesting to watch
yall need to make the swiss watchable cause i would binge all of it
Unfortunately that would be waaaayyyy more expensive than you think 😅 we don't have enough cameras and overhead rigs so we'd have to have each match played individually. So we'd have to pay people for multiple days of playing or buy a bunch more equipment. We'd also need an editor to go through all of that. I'm sorry but I doubt footage of the swiss will ever happen
@@CardmarketMagiceven if it was just straight vod footage of a "feature match" area? The other games happening in the same room, but not necessarily filmed?
@cking636 I mean, we could do that. But the video's poor views would ruin our youtube algorithm (because it's not as snappy as our regular videos) and people would then mostly complain that we are not showing the other matches. I get you, if I had infinite budget, you'd see all of the games with coverage
@@CardmarketMagic It's cool that you're talking openly about the logistics of it, thanks for the insight.
@@CardmarketMagic I'll continue daydreaming, then.
On a side note, if cardmarket ever hosts a tourney, the three of you would make up the most dynamic and fun coverage team!
Been waiting so long for this series! Can't wait to see which deck wins!
I love these series, and seeing Mengu's happy face. That Ancient Grudge was disgustingly good too
YES! Both the Flashback episodes to the 90's and this tournament are such great showcases of older Magic. Thanks again Cardmarket team!
I was really excited to see the videos after voting, can't wait for the next one!
an underappreciated part of these videos is the music, it really increases the tension of the matches!
I absolutely loved the Standard version of this series, and the Modern version seems like it could be even better! I'm looking forward to the next video!
That Moment when Andrea destroyed both Amulets; i applauded him in my mind.. that was a nice turn!
It was so satisfying to see the value from the Ancient Grudge. GGs
I love the most powerful series from Cardmarket
Take my like and comment, this series is what makes the history of magic so cool.
Thank you for your tribute to the algorithm gods :)
I don't normally comment, but I love this series and adding the breakdown of the Swiss was an amazing addition! I just hope we can continue do these! Probably the first magic series I watch "religiously" and get excited for the next episode.
I'm happy you enjoy them :) I knew I was taking a risk when I started the first one because dedicating so many resources to 7 videos could be a big flop, but it's exactly the kind of tournament i'd want to watch so I forced it into existence 😅 I'm happy that I'm not the only one who would enjoy this kind of series :) thank you for your comment
Loving those best deck series. Keep them up and give me MORE.
Andrea is my favorite magic player of all time and bloom titan is one of my favorite decks. Love this video
It is so good seeing Dark Confidant being played. I remember back in the day I used to play it in a Mardu deck with Grave Titan. Hit myself for 6 a couple times. ^^
Seeing you guys standing infront of cards with your names on them in the intro for this video made me realise how awesome it would be if you did a commander game where you each used your own custom card that personified your playstyle and what you love about magic as the commander.
That's a really fun idea :)
Great match. Loved it, it was like going back to the past.
Y'all are doing incredible work. Some of the best Magic content I've seen in the past 8 or so years. Keep it going!
Love the series. Really wish there was a Twin list in this. Feels kinda incomplete without Twin and Affinity
I voted for both when they came up, but the other decks were far more powerful. Honestly, Affinity is probably a Swiss exit anyway, but Twin absolutely could have won rounds. I doubt it makes it very far with the busted stuff other decks would be doing, but it would at least be a nice deck to have seen in Swiss.
People did not vote for either in the voting rounds. I do wish we had a twin list to at least see how it would have performed in the swiss, althoug I doubt it would have made top 8...
@@CardmarketMagic It did have the counters to deal with many more modern decks, and, with how weak the bottom of the top 8 were in Swiss, I could see the deck making the top 8 decks overall. However, it's going to be hard pressed to beat out things like Hogaak and Scam.
Best magic gameplay on the internet, and the best deck of all time series is one of my favorites!
I'm happy you enjoy it :) it's, by a long way, my favourite series ro make. I'd do it for free even
I have been waiting for this series and this match did not disappoint. Excited for next week as well!
This is so good. I'm excited to see how it all unfolds. So many memories playing against all these monstrosities!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I cant wait for this whole series! I stopped really playing magic around Magic 10 block, and played some here and there (started in ice age, im old ) and now I just watch all of your videos which makes me want to get back in it. Your production and everything is fantastic. Its cool to see you all doing something you love.
If you do get back in, I'd heavily recommend pauper :) you get to play a ton of old cards and the decks are budget friendly
This is amazing, super hyped for the tournament! Excellent production & content as always :)
Thank you :)
The music at the end of game two was on point, I love how intense it made it!!!! Amazing work folks
I've done what I enjoyed doing the most while watching Reid Duke : pausing the video and telling all the possible lines for the jund players and trying guessing the right one. Always brings good memories watching jund
Great Game. Great Video. So cool decks competing!!! I can't wait for the next rounds. See you next video 👍
THIS MATCHUP has a special place in my heart. This was my win-and-in for day 2 of GP Pittsburgh in 2015. I eked out the win 2-1 and my lines were so hard to sequence! Thank you for this ❤
Hey! I was there! I played a budget Delver list without Snaps or fetches which was actually fairly strong, managed to get to like 3-3 iirc but lost my last chance at day 2 to a Tron deck in game 3 because I got greedy and didn't hold up Hurkyl's when it would have won me the game (I think my Swiftspear was lethal without a blocker), and they had the Wurmcoil to punish it. I played out the rest of the day and lost to all the weird off-meta decks in the X-4+ bracket until the last round, where I beat a super fun guy playing a deck that I remember doing literally nothing.
Was my first tournament and a very fond memory.
14:40 I flinched at the serum visions before transmuting Twest
Andrea seems like such a great guy. He’s always so happy and he obviously loves Magic
He is indeed a great guy :)
This was amazing! Well done Carl, looking forward to the rest of the tournament :)
I'm happy you enjoyed it :)
Love getting to see the swiss results. Really puts everything into context
I love these tourneys. I was perfectly happy to see either deck win -- they're both awesome.
Another entry in some of the best Magic content on the internet. I'd say this competes with Rhystic Study and Spice 8 Rack's essays, as well as Bosh and Thraben's gameplay. It's the full package, this series - great job Cardmarket team!
Hurray ! A new "Best deck ever" serie !
This is as always top quality content. (And pretty swamp cards on Andrea's side. Love the flavor).
This is great, Mengu is great, and… old Modern was great. Just look at those cards! (Yes, I don’t like Modern Horizons)
And oh, Carl is the best, because he made all this happen. Keep it up!
I'm happy you enjoy the series :D it's truly my favourite part of my job!
Glad the series is back! Music backdrops were amazing too on this video! Exciting to see this pan out Pauper and Legacy still to go after ;)
the amulet decks are so satisfying in the sense that every card of the 60 is part of the combo
I legit can't wait for the rest of the games. GO GO GO!!!
I'd love to see the swiss rounds but this is nonetheless so exiting
Ive been refreshing for this. Super excited to watch the tourney play out!
You guys make the best mtg content out there. I'm so stoked for this series.
Awesome series with an awesome couple of players on showcase today.
Very nice!
Love it! It’s always so nice to see Andrea play and commentate ❤
I love these series. Y'all are the best corporate advertisement turned sentient I've ever seen. ❤
Wow, jund keeps on being a great deck with a chance against anything. This was a bit of an upset that I didn't expect. Great stuff guys, looking forward to the next matches!
I've been unreasonably excited for this.
Holy shit, this series looks amazing, looking forward for next video!
I was so excited for this series when i saw the community posts! Can't wait
It's honestly nice seeing old fashioned jund being good again. It's like a delver strategy for people allergic to blue decks and I love it.
Jund wasn't good, Mengu just won, because Carl goofed hard.
I'm not sure I missplayed 😅 what would you call a missplay here?
@@livedandletdie I don't wanna start an Internet war, but I really do feel as if 1. Jund was undeniably the best deck in the format at one point in time and 2. Carl did a pretty damn good job with what was going on but I'm always willing to have my mind changed through well constructed arguments
Been looking forward to this so much! So hyped to watch all of the matches. Perfect thing to accompany my lunch break.
21:27 How you feel when you see Andrea is back on Cardmarket
Simply the best channel to watch for entertaining magic content!
Can we have alll the games before the quarter finals too?
Unfortunately not. We simply don't have the equipment and resources to film them as they happen. It would be more expensive to produce that than the whole series of the top 8 itself 😅
Sad to see Carl lose. It was a lot of fun to watch Game 1 and Game 3 was looking great until Mengu got both of your Amulets in 1 turn. That sideboard was killer.
Love the videos and looking forward to the rest of the series. I hope to watch Carl win a few matches.
The previous series was so fun, so this series has me so hyped!
The more i see your paper Magic game, the more i think your decks are stacked to make video material
Actually! It's really interesting that you say that. Because it is really important to our content theory! We realized that most games of magic are pretty exciting, but you don't realize it because the average player is not very excited about the game. When making this content, I quickly realized that if the players act really into the different plays and talk through their decisions, most games of magic can be fascinating. Sure, you can have some non-games (the first episode of the last best-deck-ever series is testament to that). But magic is generally so engaging that we don't need to fake anything :)
The best online market AND the best RUclips MTG content. Proud of you guys!
That's very kind of you to say :)
Love this series. Keep it up guys. The best paper magic gameplay on youtube.
Thank you :D that's so kind of you to say!
I have to say I’m impressed how much Carl has improved in such a short time. I almost quit watching the channel after seeing how you piloted the pauper turbo fog deck but credit where credit is due. Aside from that fantastic content guys
I actually think I piloted the pauper fog deck really well 😅 I assume you are referring to not using deserts to target the tolarian terror, which I could not... because of ward :)
@@CardmarketMagic it wasn’t any one particular play (although milling a deck with deep analysis is very suspect), it was more the general principle of the deck that I think you got wrong. The whole point of playing fogs (or weather the storm) over removal is that they are more mana efficient, the downside is they are card disadvantage. You need to be constantly drawing multiple cards a turn for it to work. So your card advantage spells need to find you fogs AND more card advantage to keep it going. Several times you were just looking for fogs and so you eventually just ran out. When you were returning cards from the graveyard (I forget the name of the card that does it) you needed to be returning the card advantage spells not the fogs. Once you have enough gas to keep yourself drawing multiple cards a turn THEN you can start returning the fogs.
andrea you beast. that play to destroy both amulets was devastating. I felt Carls soul leave the room. Just another day where Jund does Jund things i guess!! well played ❤❤
1:52 What a transition OMG! Love to the editors, they do an amazing job :3
Thank you :) this series is my baby so I put a lot of extra effort into these episodes
@@CardmarketMagicIs there a planner release schedule or is it moreso as the episodes get made?
@@Blackerbeard they'll be released every Thursday for the next 6 weeks :)
Have been waiting for the return of this series.. and what a banger of a first game. So hyped for the rest of this.
Erstaunlich dass Jund und nicht KCI dabei ist 😳 aber ich bin sehr gespannt auf das Ergebnis. Danke, dass ihr dieses coole Videoformat zurück geholt habt!
I loved the last series you did for standard. I think I'll like this one even more. Good games guys.
Yeah i hit the bell notification icon as soon as I saw this series. Cannot wait!!
Love this type of content. Glad to see the return of the GOAT bracket
Loved the Bloodbraid Andrea card! He seemed to really enjoy that flip reveal too.
Love this kind of videos. Also Modern videos are so much fun, please keep doing modern
Cheering for Jund! Ever since that History Of video, I have been in love with Jund. Loved the previous series, cannot to see how this one plays out!
These tipe of format are amazing
Such a neat series!!! I'm excited to see the other matches
These series are amazing. Love to see more in the future and have more guests play against Andrea.
Unfortunately, we stopped having guests play against other guests as they tended to be far less watched than when one of us three was involved. Which surprized me as well 😅
Interesting. But I think I can understand. People would just go watch tournaments if they want a full competitive set up. Amazing content nonetheless.
Great website and a even better channel. Love to see this conent❤❤
Holy hell, the format is back 🥰
You gotta love Amulet Titan. It's so cool. What a dumb, intelligent, crazy deck.
Cool series Idea! It's a shame to lose one of my favorite modern decks of all time in the first video though.
This series is gonna be awesome!
Great game! Amazing video! Looking forward to the rest of games! :)
Was not expecting that level of wholesomeness xD thanks you guys! As a commander only player it feels so wrong playing with 20 life. Could not imagine the pressure.
20 life is not so bad when you only have one opponent :)
Exciting! tbh can't wait for scam vs hogaak
I love the Swiss results with a bit of commentary on each match.
Unfortunately, that would be waaaaay beyond our budget 😅 we don't have the cameras or resources for that. But you can go to the pinned comment and see the text report for that :)
Sorry Carl, but I am so glad to see Andrea beat you with Tarmogoyf and Dark Confidant! One of my favorite decks ever, great vid y'all!
I was also happy, somehow, to get beaten down by dark confidants and tarmogoyfs 😅
