Yes! Have admired Kolbs as well. Wings fold back for easy storage/trailering. No prop/engine in front of you. Great visibility for the pilot. I think it has the option of tail dragger or trike. Just don't wear a beanie or the aft prop will digest it!
Be very careful with the airfoil on the Kolb wing. It will let go quickly whether slow or fast. It will high speed stall quickly. I regularly flew my buddies single place Firestar with the 447 Rotax. Then my father & I built an award-winning experimental Firestar II. Bank it aggressively and pull some G’s and that wing will stall fast with little warning. It nearly killed my father when it stalled at low altitude in gusty winds. He was badly hurt, and the plane was totaled. I’ll never fly one again.
@@pittss2c601 good to know, thanks for sharing. I like that little bird but your stall alerts and the thought of nosing in with a dead engine, definitely is steering me away from it.
@@danaskubic2145 My father & I owned 12 aircraft. We built a Rans S-12 that flew circles around the Kolb and the wing was fantastic. We also owned approximately 5 Quicksilver ultralights. Those things are tough, take a beating, and are super easy to fly and repair. Probably the safest ultralight out there. I then purchased and flew lots of aerobatic biplanes and a Swick T-Craft. The best airplane was my Pitts Special biplane. There’s nothing like it.
That firestar is a perfect plane for a first time owner.. Looks easy to maintain, great visibility, doesnt fly around too fast... Great reputation I know that much..
Hey man i work on a farm and have to work with tarps on semi-trailers. You simply roll the tarp with a long crank handle with a universal joint up at the end that slips into the tarp rod. Very simple and easy. Not so easy to explain if not familiar with what im talking about. Awsome. This just gave me an idea! Kolbs are one of the coolest flying ultralights.
Prefer right seat as well. Roll control in your RH. Jonas, dont forget the big wheels on your yellow kitfox had a different "angle of attack" for water skiing. The smaller wheel is more "blunt".
Great little flying machine Jonas, I bet the flying position feels really strange but sort of cool. You can’t beat great visibility. You made a great advert for that little aeroplane. 🙂👍
Easiest way to roll the side with a pole: Small pulley at the top on either end; roll the side up to the top, push the paracord/rope through the pulley and securely attach to the pole on either end of the pole (rope must not rotate) and then lower the pole with the rope. The rope will roll onto either end of the pole as you lower it and the opposite when you pull it up creating the rolling motion. Had this on a greenhouse and works like a bomb
And just so you know Kolb he is one of the best crosswind airplanes you ever fly also there's a Marge you can do by simple taking your aid around and cut it and you make it slimmer and now you have flaps My Firestone will run over 72 miles an hour all of them are very well powered you drive in it at 63 miles an hour is your choice I cannot believe your friend owned A KOLB and never researched it
I second what pixel said, yes it is great to see you flying in the Kitfox, you'll be able to get out on more air adventures. The Airbike, gas and electric paragliders, motorcycle and snow ski stunts, made me nervous. I was beginning to see you as a risk taker and was worried you'd get hurt. You're much more at home in a real fixed wing aircraft. Thanks!
I built a Kolb Flyer (pre-part-103) from a Kolb raw materials kit, a ton of steel and aluminum tubes, thousands of pop rivets, and a pair of Solo two-stroke direct drive engines spinning 36" props (last century.) I learned to weld under the tutelage of a very qualified instructor who inspected each weld until I completed a tube-butt-weld on a piece of flat steel. "You don't need me anymore." Unfortunately, circumstances required the sale before it was ever flown. I often wonder how that old bird is doing.
We were driving by on our way to SLC from Montana sunday. Saw the kitfox on the ramp and had to jump on RUclips. Had a suspicion that turned out to be correct! Woohoo! Fly safe and see you up there ✈️🤙🏼

To roll that tarp door up he could use a long crank handle like what’s used on a tractor trailer dump. It just needs a square tube receiver to accept it’s square end
Seen a few pig shelters in my time. The way they roll up the tarp is just a long crank handle with a uni joint connection to the long pole. Once its wound up, you have a catch somewhere to put the handle in and it cant unwind. None of this pulley rubbish.
Back when I was flying ultralights, my buddy bought a Kolb Firestar with a 377. I test flew it for him as he had no tailwheel time, and I was just amazed how light on the controls it was. I came back from that first flight and said, it's like you kind of think of going in one direction and the plane just heads that way. It was a sweet airplane, and sure climbed like a home sick angel even with the 377.
So the Grass that was shown on the runway looks similar to Buffalo grass If it is it will make a wonderful turf similar to golf courses. It’s incredible drought resistant but will die if it gets dry enough.
Hi from Melbourne Australia. (Not Florida!) Lovely little plane Jonas. I'm surprised you're not going to buy it yourself and ditch the airbike. It's got a canopy!
asking 'cause i'm studying for pilot in Argentina an here you can't go below 300ft from terrain or obstacles and you can be punished. Isn't the same in USA? thanks!
Just a question: if you go half feet down does the plane tires would get stuck into the water and cause it to flip forward? It's just a guess. Nice plane, I want one like that 🙌🏻

G,day Jonas from Sydney Australia. How much (approximately) is the annual registration fee for an experimental light sport plane? Also, how many gallons is that tank seat: are they approved and safe? 🌏🇦🇺
Dang did it already sell? How much he want for it? I got over 80 hours now.... still haven't done my solo cross country though haha. (EDIT) Nevermind I just saw. Since it is a Light Sport and is registered, does it count towards time building for Commercial and ATP license?

Good question. Each airplane is just different and the conditions play a large roll.
That is common and intuitionally done. Subconciously. Just reacting to conditions as Jonas says
