@JonasMarcinko I’m not sure if it would be the same but I have a friend that owns a auto muffler shop and Keep in mind every bend in the pipe lowers the sound much more then you would expect 😎
Nice one Jonas, love seeing you fly a proper plane again, and love seeing Tom! It´s a well known fact that most of the noice comes from the prop, regardless of mufflers or even power-plants (electric), the noice is more or less impossible to get rid of.
At Sisteron airfield where E-props are manufactured, they are running a 5-bladed (i think) silenced 'home-built' DR400 tow plane. It is inaudible at 30m on idle and taxi settings. It sounds more like a normal plane at full power however. All this reminds me of a video I saw of the Vietnam era YO-3A. The designers went almost all out to design a quiet engine, prop and airframe combo. Massive loss of power from the silencing though!
Jonas: So why are we not landing on it? ...I kinda wanna try it!!!! That is just so Jonas like....Always trying things that others avoid... you've got to love this guy 😂
@ Have been to Tom’s strip. Don’t think my Katmai would even make it in there.. Feel free to visit another O in Alpine in the summer. Will give you the nickel tour because it’s so small we don’t have a dime tour!
I always enjoy your videos and sense of humor! So glad you got another plane and are flying again! Over here in Twintucky and I’m always looking for you flying when I go to my kids soccer games over in IF. I love how you’re an entrepreneur and are not afraid to build anything. Keep up the videos.
Your ads are the only ones I will actually watch, love the comic relief! When are we going to see some Glasair content? I’ve got a TD1 I’m working on an engine and panel swap.
Those slick type go fast Euro planes ARE quiet, and who knows, maybe the clean airframe helps a bit also. I'm always aurprised how noisy the 7 is when flying dead stick, lots of wind whistle.
If I had the time todo things like you do then I'd be in my happy place 💯. I'm a chef, as well for hire. You've put yourself together as well to have a nice family. Please keep doing what you do Jonas ❤.
Jonas - re the decibels, +10dB is 10x the energy (if it were a speaker, you'd need 10x the watts driving it to get 10dB louder), but +10dB is only perceived as approx twice as loud.
Why in the heck did I watch the advertisement? I never watch advertisements. My fast-forward button must be broke.. :) Oh, nice flying too. I'll have to stop out there and visit soon.
Another great video. Tom is just a legend. If you stood beside him and told me he was your dad, I'd believe you. Don't know if you realise but you kinda look like eachother ;-)
This is what A.I. says, "Decibels are a logarithmic unit that measures the ratio of power or intensity. This means that the intensity of a sound doubles every 3 dB. For example, a sound that is 10 dB is 10 times louder than silence, and a sound that is 20 dB is 100 times louder than silence." So it is exponentially louder.
clear back in the 70's I saw my first powered ultra light it was a hang glider wing with a small chainsaw engine about 6 or 7 HP and I chased him from Arimo to Downy on my dirtbike his speed was about 35 MPH and I watched him land in about 50 feet on tiny wheels mounted at the ends of the guide bar on that Downey airport strip .. oh and he came from Pocatello on less than a pint of gas
The Prince is quieter and has a deeper (better? to my ears anyway) tone than any prop I've tried, including Kiev, WW, Warp, E, and Luga, but that's just a subjective opinion.
Deci: 1/10 Bel: Base 10 log unit Many sensory nerves function on a Base 10 log scale. Trust the electromechanical sensors and not your ear’s perception. 0:15 Look up a sound pressure scale. Compare your readings to that scale. Ear damage occurs at a lower heard sensation than expected because the semi log scale compresses the actual sound energy stimulus. A small increase in heard volume is caused by a logarithmic increase in sound energy or pressure. Dr. T
I have been flying with a Montague folder, three different ones, for the last 20 years, the last four one that I converted to a 1100 watt "hotrodded" BBSHD motor, I can carry two 11.5 amp 52 volt batteries in an external pod, and charge them while flying. A Rohloff hub means 14 real gears, it's about the ultimate e bike that can fit in the plane, but it's overkill for short rides on pavement, more capability then needed, and at 56 pounds not real light. So the little and light Brompton is just something to ride when I don't need a full sized ebike, and it's actually pretty fun to ride.
So far so good! Already, with cooler temps arriving, it's been nice to not to have to worry about carb ice on long throttled back descents. I learned, almost the hard way a few times, that once the oil temp dropped below 140, throttling back on short final could lead to the engine dying, but weirdly enough it also instantly re-started when cranked. Call it incipient icing, nothing ever in level flight or at normal temps, but the EFI eliminates that. Great starting always, smooth running and shutting down, and as expected about the same economy as before, due to my constant use of a HacMan manual leaner when I had the carbs. But unlike using the HacMan, I don't have to remember to enrichen it back up or otherwise mess with it, about 150 hours on the system so far.
Why would I land on asphalt, when I can land on grass? Because I'm cheap! The answer is, the tires are expensive as hell and hard surfaces are to be avoided if you want to get max life out them.
I'm sure you realize the corner you're painting yourself into by insisting on flying from the right seat. Rag wing right seat, no problem. 2+ pilot transports are flown from the right seat about half the time. But there's a no-man's-land in between. You'll suffer greatly if you ever move into complex single pilot aircraft operations and aren't comfortable flying from the side of the panel they were meant to be flown from. Someone like you will only continue to grow in skill and ambition where aviation is concerned. Don't wake up with your legs crossed when opportunity knocks.

I just can’t tell you how fun it is to see you back in a Kitfox, flying on a regular basis.
I’m just stoked you have a Kitfox again!!!!!!
Nice landing Jonas 💪
Those off airports landings are always exciting and adventurous. Off-roading in a Kitfox.....love it!

Nice that you can keep your plane at home
I’ve been dreaming about it for years.
If you do an off-airport landing, 1st time, stop and walk it before taxiing and take-off. A rock or stump or hole could bite you!
Yeah totally agree. Hard to see everything from the cockpit.
Now he needs a quieter prop

I think its cool as f! Im trying to do the same with a dirt bike rigjt now.

I believe the human ear hears a change in sound every 3 db+/-.
Every 3 db is a doubling of the energy.

Get a folding ebike with a extra battery or two to swap out

I think the exhaust note was being drowned by the prop noise.
Should of measured at pipe and muffler exhaust while on the ground. Helps isolate prop noise overlap
Actually the very best way to determine the effectiveness of the extra muffler, would have been to take the prop OFF!
Good point!! We might need to retest.
A glass pax would quiet it down quite a bit
Id like to hear an update on Tom's injection system. Was it worth it?

Are you still going to repair your Capella?
When will it fly again?
Yes I am. Just trying to get the hangar finished and setup for working
@@JonasMarcinko Cool...fyi, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your hangar door!
So glad to hear it will go back in the air.
Jonas. Do you always fly right seat?
Yeah I do! I just like it better.
Must be new to Jonas Marcinko"s channel !
Hey Jonas, are you currently running your 72 or 80 inch prop?
72inch.
Like a cherry bomb one for a tractor
6dB is a doubling in terms of sound amplitude.
7db is about double the sound pressure (i.e. twice as loud)
Curious if your Eprop is quieter than his prince prop?
I think it is. But not by much. Tom’s prop has a nice deeper sound
Have you ever tried a car muffler??
@@berndm9743 I actually thought about that after doing the test.
Maybe I’ll experiment.
