Tanky McTankface - The 3D printed tank

- Ever since getting my 3D printer almost a year ago I wanted to make a tank. Not just a small one that could drive around indoor, but a proper RC vehicle with a functional suspension system, and a sturdy design.
After loads of prototyping, this was what I came up with. Everything is printed in PETG, and it has taken around 250 hours to print all of the parts.
As the video shows it drives quite well, reaching a top speed of around 12 km/h. The motors are plenty powerfull to make it run faster though, so I might redo the gearbox.

I can picture Tanky McTankface being a launchpad for possible future Droney McDronehead. So cool!
Haha, I actually build a 3D printed quadcopter a while back named Hedwig. But it is a tad too big to land on this tank though. A DJI mavic would fit nicely though!
Fr though it looks like an landing pad
One of the best 3D Printed tanks I've seen. Very well done sir.
Amazing!! Ever since I saw the Ripsaw tank, I wondered if anyone would make an R/C version. This is the closest to one I've seen so far. I feel with some more time it could be adapted for the speed and looks that mimic a Ripsaw.
Finally a 3d printing channel with great taste of music 🙌
i would argue against that.
@@BigCroca Yeah i might have overrated the music a bit at the time 🤔
I could apply my deep learning AI on that tank and make it follow you while you're walking around, also make it talk with you when you want it to do something, like stop, follow or go somewhere by laser guiding it, or just pointing by hand. It would be a very cool feature and a very cool gadget to have, a mini tank to carry around your stuff while you're on the go, and when you want to climb somewhere you can just clip it into your backpack and carry it. If I could buy all that stuff of course, because here in Brazil a 3D printer costs more than my arm. Thats a very cool project, congratulations and keep doing those cool items.
That is the best tank I have ever seen!
So awesome. I made a rc tank my self after seeing this ! Have a look if you have time
Sorry, I had a hard time seeing the video because I was DANCING TO THAT GROOVY BEAT!
Mount a full auto softgun to it on a turret and you can rake up the frags while dancing in spawn
good tank
That looks like fun, thanks for sharing
Droney Mcdroneface next!
Coolest 3D printed tank! I gotta make one for myself. How well does it turn? Does the track ever fall off?
Definitely not what I was expecting - But very cool :D
Very nice man! Keep it up!
Very good job, i love
Do you think pure nylon filament for tracks and gears is better then PETG?
hey, that's really cool. Great job!
This is seriously awesome!!!
iFixit case on the left? 0:30. Also what electronics and controller you use, epic stuff!
29.95 for the plans! Great deal. Now to find a printer.
This one was done on a prusa mk3
nice keyboard
Wow we use the same copyright free music. Neat
Also how did you get the treads to work so well. I am making a 3D printed rc snowmobile but I'm having trouble modeling treads on Fusion360
Well done!
hello friend, great tank. I like it very much.
How did you make the tracks? What material are they made of?
Dude, that's cruising like a real tank. Very well done. How is the wear and tear of the outer layers of the wheels? X kind regards
Thanks man! I have not seen any noticeable wear on them yet, but will check up on it when I have driven it for a few months
How's all the plastic holding up with all the sand and stuff? I could imagine it would put quite a bit of wear on those tracks and wheels
The PETG is quite tough, and even after drifting around on concrete the wear is barely noticeable.
Already 10x better than air hogs
Are the tracks 3d printed as well? I am planning to make my own 3d printed tank and i have decided that i would rather use prefabricated tracks rather than plastic ones.
Beautiful)
I mainly like the suspension. Where can I buy suspension like that?
Sweedish tank? With enhace SUSpension
Greautiful!!!
Its looks like t72 add turet and it will be great.
Can you post a picture of the drivetrain and in the BOM is it metric or imperial. And what kind of motors are needed?
Can you sit on it? I am going to add 20kg of battery for more traction in the snow weather, does it work?
Thanks!
Do you know the 3M Novec High Tech Fluids ?
Not the content I subscribed for but still a very interesting video 😏
Hah yeah, I was torn between making a new channel, or just to upload it here. I can build a computer into it, and make it relevant for the videos I normally posts:D
Just watercool it
@@maximebakleh8052 what about a watercooled Raspberry Pi 3 B+ ?
Hey man, great design! Me and my co-worker bought the files and are building 2 tanks. I'm confused about the wheels. Are the M4x30 screws supposed to thread into Wheel B? Because the holes are too large. Am I missing something? Thanks!
Oh shoot, those where supposed to be M5. I will fix that in the bom, sorry!
Great job! Subscribed :)
What's the material of the tracks?
Not as satisfying as your PC builds, but still pretty cool
Just bought the files for the 3D printed tank. Kind of expensive for the .STL Files I think they ought to be free. They'res a Spanish guy who has a giant tank on RUclips who's promising it to be free but we'll see. I'm hoping the giant & Small 3D printed tank by Ivan Miranda will be free. That way I can compare both 3D Printed tanks. I'm disappointed you didn't add a turret to this tank and made it an advanced UGV. I think you should upgrade it and allow those of us who bought it the updates for free or at reduced cost.
I thought 3d printing would of made it up except for springs and electronics . have they come further is it just down to price because it looked just like plastic moulding like the 1970s ?
Not sure exactly what you mean? This is all made out of 50usd of plastic on a 800usd machine that chips away in my closet. I could probably make it with less screws and such, but there is just some applications where plastic just doesn't work.
@@metap0Pe it's probably just my ignorance but I thought these 3d printers can make everything in composite so except for metal and Electroics in one go.
in the vid you were having to put the tank together yourself as though it was like putting together a model aircraft that came in box's from long time ago. but yes it looked stronger. but I thought the main bit of 3d printing was it's ability to print in layers and together with moving parts just add circuitry and battery.
I hope that makes more sense.
Then I asked does it just come down to money, my friend has a plastic moulding machine and it puts out the bits as pieces not all connected and then one has to assemble it and thats what you looked like you were doing assembling it.
Kinda reminds me of a goliath tracked mine!
Some video very nice meet beautiful beautiful in the videos thinks
What motors are you running brushed or brushless?
I like everything about this! Too bad that the download costs money though or i would print one myself!
Glad you like it. The download price is less than half the price of what you would spend on filament, and 1/10th the price of what you would spend on fasteners and electronics, so I think the STL file price is quite negligible when you take the complete project into account.
@@metap0Pe i think that i was moreso dissapointed that i couldn't look at the models like i normally like to do :)
@@metap0Pe Ivan Miranda is saying he's going to release a giant and a small 3D printed tank to the net. It'll be nice if he does. It'd be nice if you could add a turret to your design and update it.
@@metap0Pe There is no such thing as a free lunch! As a maker who sells work myself, I'd say that is a very very reasonable price to pay what must have been, say, 500 hours? My son is into tanks and I would much rather spend $30 than 500+ hours of my free time on CAD or £2000ish on a high-end RC tank kit (your work is definitely in that direction). I think this track-set would be a great base for a semi-scale project.
👍
Vildt imponerende hvad du bikser sammen på din kanal. Subscribed (Y)
Anyone else interested in what screw driver set that is? @0:40
That is a ifixit kit. Some of the best money I have ever spent
@@metap0Pe Ty! Manta driver kit for those playing along at home.
Wooooow... SO amazing dude... Unfortunately I don't have access to any credit cards to purchase the files. Do you mind sharing the files please. It would be great if you send me the files and help me build one. If yes I'll send you my email. Many Thanks Mate
can this thing drift? XD
what toolset is that?
now build a turret with a .22 cannon
You live in slovenia?
I do! Moved here for work just under a year ago.
@@metap0Pe thats nice, welcome :), how you like it here? I actually love your pc mods you and l3p are the reasons i got into pc moding a few years back. You can check ot my monds on IG under s7design.
Way ask about monay can you give it to me free i cant send the monay
It will cost roughly 200 USD for all the motors, electronics and fixing, so I think 30 USD is a fair price for something I spent 300 hours designing.
hello atf
*Adolf Hitler's* Goliath *TOY*
Only need .22 CO2 air gun and some FPV and we're go for tank battles... :P It's a dream of mine to create a combat sport that features actual vehicle damage from projectile weapons (no battlebots melee nonsense... proper tank war) but that's both expensive and dangerous (requires specialized area and protective rules and measures). 3d printing really cuts that cost down.
Looks like a Goliath from WW2
Was thinking the same thing, but please use this for world peace
Hehe yea yea yea of course
