Hello Graham. Firstly, I’m a big fan, so thank you for your videos. On the fully self driving vehicles topic, I work in the automotive industry and I’ve asked the same question “when will it drive itself?” The answer was that cars could drive themselves now, but car brands don’t want to be liable for car accidents. For example, your Tesla goes through a red light because the strong wind knocked the traffic light a bit and the car doesn’t recognise it. Then you’d be able to blame Tesla for the accident. When I saw your autopilot menu I was a little confused why I didn't see some of the newer features, then it hit me that you needed HW3. I'm glad you pointed that out later in this video, vs just not reviewing a feature complete FSD.

The value of FSD is not feature by feature, but the change from manual driving to supervision. Lower stress and convenience. I have no regrets, I use it 99% of the time, and relax more when “driving” than ever before.
It's actually very useful, even as it stands right now. I use it almost every time I drive, even on side streets. It'll get better over time, so it's an investment of sorts. Pay $8k now for real FSD sometime in the future, or a lot more later when (if?) it becomes a reality. I "only" paid $5k, but love it. Most fun $5k I've spent in a long time.

@Dedan Kaggio I paid $5k. Over time the technology will get better and be sold for, say, $15k. That's a 3x return on investment and directly impacts resale value. I didn't pay Tesla to enable them to improve the product, as they'll do that anyway. I paid Tesla for a feature that I already find useful.
The most sensible review I have heard .... The features are definitely nice. But ones the novelty wears off, definitely questions would arise; if the 8K would have been better used elsewhere.
FYI - if you expect to be able to use auto lane-change in LA, you definitely want to turn on Mad Max lane changing. The default setting doesn't really work in traffic.
I just ordered my Tesla Cybertruck and decided to opt-in for the FSD. Robotaxi Network and passive income here we come. even though the truck will be $47000 😭 i have no regrets ✌️
As I understand it, you can't transfer FSD software with the sale of your car. It's basically stripped off the Tesla when the car is registered to another person. So it wouldn't increase the value of the car when trying to re-sell it. However, it is a nice source of revenue for Tesla as you could potentially sell that 8,000 upgrade to the same car more than once.
Have a model 3 with fsd and a model Y without. I am used to lane change and navigate on autopilot.. never use auto park, super rarely use summon... would be great is they included lane change to autopilot.. that’s the only thing that really works well. Traffic light stop is also super great.. use it all the time and is much safer

I HATE driving and have awful car anxiety. I love autopilot because I feel a lot safer. I didn’t own a car for a long time for that reason, and FSD is the whole reason I own a car now
Graham - I love your channel. A piece of advice... Sometimes frugality costs you money (a lot of the time actually). Do not make this your default way to make decisions. I looked at the 5K for auto pilot as as a bargain knowing Elon would jack it up over time. I spent the 5K when I bought my model 3. Right now I'm up 60% on my 'investment'. Be patient. This feature will get there. The 8 K you spent will also seem like a bargain when hes charging 12K after its fully proven.That said you are smart to invest in the stock to pay for the upgrade. I plan to do the same with 50K to buy the roadster !
The whole reason Tesla’s increasing the price for autopilot is to make the cars more depreciation-proof. Think about it this way. You buy a car for 35k and paid an extra 5k for autopilot. After a year, car itself (hardware) is now worth 27k. But if the autopilot increases in price to, say, 8k in new cars, then the price of the autopilot would make up for the depreciation expense and you’d be able to sell it for 30k (that it, the initial 27k + the 3k “gain” on the increase in the price of the autopilot)
The full self driving software option isn't carried over to new owners when a tesla is sold. The new owners then have to buy full self driving so the resale value doesn't change with the price of full self driving.
Graham Stephan the way I see it is the other way around. Since you have this 3k gain from the appreciation of the autopilot, people would be more inclined to sell since they’d get a better price. Granted, this would mean they’d have to pay the high price for the autopilot if they go and buy another Tesla. But, long term, if the autopilot increases in price to, say, 10k, then the car owner makes a gain again. The fact that the option can increase in value would also drive consumer interest spurring sales as well

Sandro, your analysis is based on the 'bigger fool theory'. Buy something now that hasn't been invented yet like Tesla buyers did in 2016 - they are still waiting for FSD and it's been 4 years, 4 years from now they'll still be waiting to turn their cars into a robotaxi. After say 8 years, the car has lost it's luster so they decide to sell it and buy a new car. The only way they are going to recover that $5k is to sell the car to an even bigger fool than they were back in 2016. Of course Elon may prove you right, but as a computer programmer, I can tell you that FSD might just be the toughest problem software engineers have ever attempted to solve. In my opinion it would be 10 times easier to make a self flying plane (taxi, take off, fly a plotted course, communicate with ATC and land etc), but how many of those do you see being offered to the public? Graham is right when he thinks FSD is 20+ years away. What is going to happen to Tesla stock when Elon fails to deliver something he sold that cannot be delivered in the lifetime of the vehicle and customers demand a refund?
Little rectification: I think when you resell your Tesla, it only come with the free standard autopilot bro, so lane keep & traffic aware cruze control. My understanding is that the 8k enhanced autopilot is locked to your car and to the original purchaser. Should look it up just in case ...
Personally I feel you’re not a day trader until you have a trade history of over 130k and 100k in your portfolio currently, remember it’s always easier to trade when you have a method of beating the system. My FA and I have it all planned out(she’s actually the best) I invest 100k every month with a certainty of receiving nothing less than 450k Total profit so yh you could say I cheat stock 😂😂😂😂

I looked at the 5K for auto pilot as as a bargain knowing Elon would jack it up over time. I spent the 5K when I bought my model 3. Right now I'm up 60% on my 'investment'. Be patient. This feature will get there. The 8 K you spent will also seem like a bargain when hes charging 12K after its fully proven.That said you are smart to invest in the stock to pay for the upgrade. I plan to do the same with 50K to buy the roadster !

The whole reason Tesla’s increasing the price for autopilot is to make the cars more depreciation-proof.
Think about it this way. You buy a car for 35k and paid an extra 5k for autopilot. After a year, car itself (hardware) is now worth 27k. But if the autopilot increases in price to, say, 8k in new cars, then the price of the autopilot would make up for the depreciation expense and you’d be able to sell it for 30k (that it, the initial 27k + the 3k “gain” on the increase in the price of the autopilot)
The full self driving software option isn't carried over to new owners when a tesla is sold. The new owners then have to buy full self driving so the resale value doesn't change with the price of full self driving.

Since you have this 3k gain from the appreciation of the autopilot, people would be more inclined to sell since they’d get a better price. Granted, this would mean they’d have to pay the high price for the autopilot if they go and buy another Tesla. But, long term, if the autopilot increases in price to, say, 10k, then the car owner makes a gain again. The fact that the option can increase in value would also drive consumer interest spurring sales as well

Sandro, your analysis is based on the 'bigger fool theory'. Buy something now that hasn't been invented yet like Tesla buyers did in 2016 - they are still waiting for FSD and it's been 4 years, 4 years from now they'll still be waiting to turn their cars into a robotaxi. After say 8 years, the car has lost it's luster so they decide to sell it and buy a new car. The only way they are going to recover that $5k is to sell the car to an even bigger fool than they were back in 2016. Of course Elon may prove you right, but as a computer programmer, I can tell you that FSD might just be the toughest problem software engineers have ever attempted to solve. In my opinion it would be 10 times easier to make a self flying plane (taxi, take off, fly a plotted course, communicate with ATC and land etc), but how many of those do you see being offered to the public?
Graham is right when he thinks FSD is 20+ years away. What is going to happen to Tesla stock when Elon fails to deliver something he sold that cannot be delivered in the lifetime of the vehicle and customers demand a refund?

Little rectification: I think when you resell your Tesla, it only come with the free standard autopilot bro, so lane keep & traffic aware cruze control. My understanding is that the 8k enhanced autopilot is locked to your car and to the original purchaser. Should look it up just in case ...

Personally I feel you’re not a day trader until you have a trade history of over 130k and 100k in your portfolio currently, remember it’s always easier to trade when you have a method of beating the system.
