The jab they were discussing at the end was indeed jab 2, not jab 3. Sparg0 held jab prior to marss getting off the ledge, so he got jab 1 twice, with one jab 1 hitting nothing and the next jab 1 hitting marss’s shield. After that he hit marss’s shield with jab 2 before doing the dash back up tilt. It somewhat looks like 3 jabs because of the jab 1 that doesn’t hit anything, but in reality marss did only get hit by jab 1 and 2 on shield. As such it makes sense that he didn’t shield grab.
and to defend marss' decision making even further, pyra's jab 2 is -23 on shield, zss' grab oos is frame 21 meaning marss had exactly 2 frames to realize spargo had stopped at jab 2 and react
wait hol'up it's frame 23? Doesn't that mean zss grab is reactable to jump away from? (reaction time is usually 15 frames iirc)

Great set. That fullhop upair from the ground killing at 89% pre-hit in game 5 was really neckbreaking imo. The first stock is so important here.

Sparg0’s clutch factor and ability to adapt to his opponent is always impressive to watch. He really is only surpassed by Leo in this regard imo
I remember thinking that Sparg0 gets into a lot of game 5 situations for a player who is supposedly number 2 in the world, and that he eventually would be unseated/upset as a result. However, after watching him over these past few months, it became clear that…he just doesn’t lose in these game 5 scenarios. Players take him to game 4-5 a lot, but 9/10 times he manages to adapt and take the set. Doing so once or twice could be considered lucky. Doing it consistently is a skill.
What clutch? He had two stocks by the end. For pros that's a lot.

Intense from start to finish. I was rooting for ya Marss. Great set to both players.
Marss is amazing but it’s hard for him to keep that momentum for more than a match or two with a character as technical & consistent as ZSS. Hope he finds a way someday.
It’s hard playing ZSS; lots of great movement and quick attacks but they’re not active for a lot of frames, and they don’t do a lot of damage or knock back. You need to get those setups and kill confirms in order to take those stocks and at such high level play no one is gonna let a stock (or interaction, for that matter) for free.
If only she had a tilt that killed reliably at high percents (like idk ganon, kazuya, Roy), or her down b reset after being hit in the air, or was slightly heavier, if up B worked!…anything, ZSS would be so much better.
I mean, Sparg0 just outplayed him. You can't say it was the matchup when so many of the KO's were straight up reads and/or technical plays. Aegis may be a really good character, but they aren't a broken character with any exploits that get them KO's.

I think you meant technical and inconsistent :P She has some confirms that kill stupidly early, but then other times her moves just don't work and she can struggle to kill at higher percents.

I think the biggest Marss' problem is he didn't know what to do against sparg0's shield
It also seemed to me that he was panicking in off stage scenarios…holding in towards ledge and not mixing up his get up times….

That's a ZSS issue lmao. The same thing happened against phuzix, he just held shield and Marss didn't know what to do. His only saving grace was Phuzix losing his patience and blindly running in, which is exactly what zss wants

These are my two favorite players to watch, by far. They play the game the way it's supposed to be played. This felt kind of like watching a Melee set.

It’s clear from these spargo sets that Aegis wins a lot of air to airs. You have to play patient and camp them out. Stay grounded because their grounded options are not nearly as good. Pyra side b is super punishable after the patch.
Think ZSS should avoid grabs vs Mythra. The risk vs reward is largely in Mythras favor. Pretty much any missed grabbed will get dash attacked or punished with a tilt up close. I think ZSS should camp Mythra with gun honestly. Pyra on the other hand can’t punish grabs as easily, but you still don’t want to air to air because she has crazy range.

mythra is too fast to be camped out and just because youre grounded doesnt mean you dont hve to respect their aerials and all mythras tilts are super fast and start combos, and if you shield they have a good grab game lol
Also he has to grab to keep his opponents guessing rather than staying in shield the entire time because zss cant do much against shielding

I want to pick up ZSS, but shields are just way too strong against her. A lot of her stocks come from aerial pressure. She is also surprisingly weak, like I feel that Sheik actually out damages ZSS by the sheer options Sheik has in neutral.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I think ZSS deserves a combo throw and a tilt that leads into a kill confirm (Dtilt or ftilt).
None of her "confirms" actually confirm... they're all DI checks.
Since we count DI checks as confirms, dtilt IDJ bair is true until around 130 on midweights.

So one weakness of zzs is her approach, parry her aerials isn't that a big weakness for the inconsistence timing that marss can do but in this level is very important

ZSS and Pythra are in my top 3 favorite characters with 2 of my favorite players so this set was great to watch. I know Mythra is broken but the amount of up air strings Spargo gets when he gets a hit is ridiculous. I wouldn't choose battlefield against Spargo's Mythra because he doesn't miss a single up air with her, it's too much free damage from one of the fastest characters in the game. It's got to be so frustrating not being able to land on Mythra (Spargo) even when using someone with ZSS's mobility. I wouldn't be surprised if Spargo does end up #1 over MKLeo one day.

Dood marss has proven that zss beats aegis in the first match. Spargo just adapted to his play style and marss has had a chance to do the same. Zss is actually in a favorable position off stage so if he didn't capitalized on it then it's his fault.

The more I watch pro play smash, the more I feel that sword characters are boring and broken... Don't misunderstand, I not saying that ZSS is thrash like Marss like to say, it's just that when you create a character that has 2 times the range of others and no real downside to counter it, the game loses a bit of fun and fair play. I think Spargo is an awesome player, like Kola or other sword character players, but it's hard to root for him when you see that
Yeah, i feel the same way. ZSS is definitely a really good character but is not as great as people usually think. Specially when almost every Top Tier and High Tier are losing matchups. The thing is ZSS destroys mid tiers and low tiers, but she gets destroyed against top tiers. Its really difficult to use her as Marss uses her but he’s just built different.
Yeah Marss definitely has to work a lot harder in this matchup in order to win, game 1 was showing what happens when ZSS gets good reads, but it’s a struggle against a character that out damages her, with a better initial dash, grab combos, easy kill confirms, etc. tldr ZSS good but pythra broken

Insane range, kill power and extremely safe, swordies were fine in previous games, they feel overtuned af in this game a lot of the times.

When Marss beat Sparg0 at CEO 2019 there were a lot of comments mocking him because he was a kid. Even Marss posted some about it on Twitter. But I said that in a few years that boy would improve so much that even Marss would have to worry about him... and look now, that kid grew up and just kicked Marss's ass.

So frustrating to see how many stocks Marss is losing because of the nerfs to ZSS. In all his games this tourney, not just this one. He’s taking stocks consistently at like 170+% with up airs and up throws because 1) nair doesn’t convert into flip kick or bair as easily anymore 2) boost kick isn’t near as safe out of shield post nerf, 3) and her bury can be mashed out so fast that it’s actually a liability to try and go for a kill since all her kill moves have so much lag (except bair, which you can rarely space if someone is grounded) that she just ends up getting whif punished. It’s a joke. Really. I’m so sad about ZSS. She was fine after the first nerf, but she’s unplayable now. I feel for Marss.
Is not unplayable she still kills and it is a top tier character. She is just not as good anymore.
Nair flip kick barely changed... This isnt about nerfs, its mostly about not labbing his character, he's behind a lot of players because he didnt really competed since covid started.
@@zsoliddannys242 I don’t think that’s true. With the added end lag to nair, opponents have more time to DI and/or air dodge. I have seen it countless times since the nerf. Nair rar bair used to be a solid kill confirm, even at like 70-80%. But I rarely see Marss (or myself, a zss main too) it happen anymore because it doesn’t connect as fast.

This is a far cry from this set here from 2 years ago. Sparg0 has improved alot since then (and picked up arguably one of the most broken characters) and Marss has gotten worse since then. It's an interesting contrast.

I don't know what kind of drugs these guys are on that are making them think Mythra's f-smash is a good move. The only thing good about it is its frame data. It's so weak now that it's nearly useless as a KO option unless you're right by the ledge.
Marss just got too close to the edge recovering vs a sword character. That's not at all an uncommon range to hit at for the sword characters.
why is the gameplay sped up
I miss when the top tiers were pichu, wolf, lucina, wario, zss, peach, etc (not that some of these chars aren't still good but like...there are strictly better alternatives now). The DLC powercreep is just sad. Corny ass characters

I think that’s just how it is for Smash now, DLC usually has to be strong (unless you’re Banjo) in order to justify buying them. Nobody wants a DLC character that’s low tier.
Wait until the next Smash game, everyone will be nerfed to hell and the next DLC will take their place
