Sam Now Cilla Black, grew up with these people, my friends son performed with Ron Moody he sent him a letter not that long ago he sent a nice letter back.
MOST PEOPLE WERE DEPRESSED BY THIS NEWS--I CERTAINLY WAS--BUT THEY WERE BOTH OVER 90---NOBODY CAN LIVE FOR EVER. WE CAN ALWAYS ENJOY THEIR GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO OUR LIVES.
I love the fact that he leant into being Jewish but made the character sympathetic. The original Fagin as written by Dickens was an anti-Semitic trope. Later in life Dickens had a change of heart and tried to rehabilitate Oliver Twist by re-writing Fagin’s Jewishness out, but it was far too late for that. Keeping it in but ‘changing the plot for him’ - as his other main song ended - was a much cleverer and more narratively interesting move, and Bart and Moody were on the same page there.
Imagine being 10yrs old, watching this at Radio City Music Hall. These boys would've been our peers. I suppose we're still impressed by it. They're obviously naughty but they sound like angels. Like all boys that age so were we, a little good, a little mischievous.
you cabin add American political parties to that statement. ha well the US only has one political party. LIBERAL. Some put a (D) beside their name then when they shame themselves and can no longer win an election they just replace the D with an (R) ..... If they were honest both sides would just put a big fat (L) beside their names. But that'll never happen.
This wasn't a McKintosh musical originally,it was first staged in 1960 i believe with Ron Moody and Georgia Brown as Nancy.Barry Humphries was Sowerberry.
One of the best musicals ever, great song and choreography, brings back many great memories, not of picking pockets (haha) but when I played Dodger in church play.
Interesting Oliver! facts: The original London stage show of 1960 is notable for featuring Australian satirist Barry Humphries (Dame Edna Everidge) in his first major stage role as Mr Sowerberry, and future rock stars Steve Marriott (later the lead singer of the Small Faces and Humble Pie), Davy Jones (later star of the Monkees) and Phil Collins (of Genesis fame) as The Artful Dodger. Oliver! composer Lionel Bart hummed the melodies and the music was transcribed by Eric Rogers who wrote the notes on his behalf as Bart could not read or write music. Rogers wrote and composed 21 scores for the British Carry On comedy films, the world's longest series of comedy feature films.
We have a musical jam night at my local pub every week. Everytime somebody famous passes on we pay tribute to them by singing any song they made famous. Lionel Bart wrote this song, but I've just learned it and will play it in tribute to Ron Moody who so brilliantly brought it to life. R.I. P.
this version of oliver twist is with always.i remember watching it as a kid and being fascinated with the characters, particularly fagan..the way they used words and spoke..the amazing characters..the songs..the moral story also.now an adult i realise just how good it is..timeless.charles dickens is a genius!
When my sister's school did Oliver as their Christmas musical, my sister was given the part of Oliver. They did all the songs from the 1968 musical. I think my family was quite popular since we provided the video since we taped it when it was shown on the television in the late 80s.
Dickens did it best....took the best and worst of us all, our human nature....and used his words to give it back to us. This film version is the best ever, and Fagin and the boys....who wouldn't be charmed by all of this. Thanks, Oliver!
saw this in da west end was absoloutley fab! ilovesinging oompa pah pah by nancy apparently ive got the knack for it lmao my mum is amazing at it as well but olvier greatest film ever! x
Words to live by.....I remember this song every time I have a customer I'm trying to sell a car to. Gotta pick everything you can get outta them or someone else will.
I love the song. I love it. The only problem with the message behind it is, is that it was designed for Oliver to pick a pocket, encouraging him down the line of thievary and whilst this is for the benefit of the film and probably most likely what happens in reality somewhere in London... those boys were the master crooks not Oliver because they were careful not to get caught, they either went back empty handed than got nicked. It was never the life for that boy.
I do get what you're saying. But, like many things in life, pickpocketing has different degrees. I have fond memories of my aunt when I hear this song...she had excellent sleight of hand skills, and she'd always sing the chorus of this song whenever she'd slip a wallet or keys out of someone's pocket at a party. Lol It was part of her charm.
The performance of these kids was terrific!! I love this movie.
My favorite childhood film! RIP Jack Wild!
Kocky Arapopolis he's my favourite character
@@kekeeclarke1071 me too. rip. :(
It was marvellous, wasn't it?

One of the best musical films I've ever seen
Gutted by the news of his death, straight after hearing about Christopher Lee, hit me like a tonne of bricks. RIP to two amazing actors and men.
Sam Now Cilla Black, grew up with these people, my friends son performed with Ron Moody he sent him a letter not that long ago he sent a nice letter back.
i know it was shocking
I know I was a crying wreck after hearing about Ron Moody and Christopher Lee.
MOST PEOPLE WERE DEPRESSED BY THIS NEWS--I CERTAINLY WAS--BUT THEY WERE BOTH OVER 90---NOBODY CAN LIVE FOR EVER. WE CAN ALWAYS ENJOY THEIR GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO OUR LIVES.
That's how I see it.
Hey, death is not the end...
RIP Fagins! Nobody could play Fagins as good as Ron Moody did.
Fagin's gaff looks like a riot
best musical ever
What an amazing performance....R.I.P Ron Moody
I love the fact that he leant into being Jewish but made the character sympathetic. The original Fagin as written by Dickens was an anti-Semitic trope. Oliver what a great movie 👍🏻
Even though this movie came out 10 years before I was born, this is one of me fave movies of all time. Plus my first crush was the Artful Dodger.
Mine was Nancy....
RIP Mr. Ron Moody you were delightful in Oliver!
Ron Moody has died, but his greatness will continue to thrill generations.
Same day as Christopher Lee died (Dracula, Count Dooku, Francisco Scaramanga)
"Shut up and drink your gin!'
SHARRAP AND DRINK YA GIN !!!

"These sausages are mouldy"
Alastair Tivy-Harris š?
One of the best childhood British musicals..👏🏾
The work done with the choir and the soloists were great, great story, a classic, and a high quality music.
Imagine being 10yrs old, watching this at Radio City Music Hall. These boys would've been our peers. I suppose we're still impressed by it. They're obviously naughty but they sound like angels. Like all boys that age so were we, a little good, a little mischievous.
"Why should we break our backs stupidly paying tax?"
- Is he singing about Amazon?
Scarcely, Amazon wasn't around in 1968.
Exactly what I thought shhdhd
Just a game, Oliver, just a game
Rest in Peace, Ron Moody.
Eh, this should be the theme tune for induction into many or all of the British political parties.
LOL
you cabin add American political parties to that statement. ha well the US only has one political party. LIBERAL. One of the best musicals ever created !!!
They don't make them like this any more :D
One of the best musicals ever, great song and choreography, brings back many great memories, not of picking pockets (haha) but when I played Dodger in church play.
my school just did this play. this was the best part.

R. I. P. Ron Moody. I watched this when I was young and I’m watching this cause my friend played Fagin in his high school musical.

Love this song! He has such a good voice.
An iconic fragment of an equally iconic musical
This was one of the best scenes of the whole movie. R. Mooney is untouchable, and so was the actor who played Dodger.
Love this movie and the songs are phenomenal! 🎤😁🤘
We have a musical jam night at my local pub every week. Everytime somebody famous passes on we pay tribute to them by singing any song they made famous. Lionel Bart wrote this song, but I've just learned it and will play it in tribute to Ron Moody who so brilliantly brought it to life. R.I. P.

I was in a production of Oliver a few years ago, it was such a fun show to do.
What a great artist Ron Moody is.
"Oliver" was a great movie and it owes a lot to his great performance.
Dickens did it best....took the best and worst of us all, our human nature....and used his words to give it back to us. This film version is the best ever, and Fagin and the boys....who wouldn't be charmed by all of this. Thanks, Oliver!
Why is there no soundtrack for this movie on iTunes or Amazon or anything? These actors' voices are my favorite.
I think this is the best musical ever.

I needed music to play whilst counting my mountain of change and sorting it into piles, i thought this was fitting :)
